Do you ever feel like VN Alice is way too weak for her role as JRPG demon lord? Generally, the demon lord is supposed to be far and above his subordinates to the point where they aren't even in the same league, but Alice isn't that much stronger than the Heavenly Knights. All of the Knight battles forced Luka to his absolute limits and pushed the spirits beyond where he thought they could go before and the Alice fight is essentially a total formality, mechanically and narratively Alice is a piss easy fight. I think it relies too hard on the emotional beats of making Alice an emotionally hard fight that trtr forgot to make Alice look actually strong. At least she has beat up Cassandra.

Since we see mostly in agreement that Alice is pretty washed. How strong would (you) make her? Personally I'd put her around base Eden/ shiki prime tier. I think that gives her a nice powergap to every other monster but doesn't really break the plot. Especially given how much of a powergap saja had against every other ancestor I think that'd be around right.

Isn’t Alice canonically around as strong as Eden and Lilith at her full strength? I never saw her as weak in the original story, she’s pretty clearly the strongest monster and the 4HKs are a bunch of joke fights or puzzle bosses who get beaten in specific ways while she just brute forces him. She has a lot of status ailment skills but she doesn’t use them against Luka just for the sake of being fair, at least from a game design perspective (because it would be unwinnable otherwise given she can just auto-sleep him at any point).

Granberia in particular is framed as an extremely difficult fight. Brute force doesn't work against Luka at all because he's a dodge tank and Alice has no gimmick to stop him from dodge tanking so he just beats her ass with little difficulty. Alice's strikingly low power level comes into play in late part 3 where she's basically unable to do anything but heal luka because her powerlevel's so low and in paradox part 3 it's even worse, and i'm not even talking about the ancestors, of course she's not as strong as the ancestors but she'd be basically a gnat to lilith, much less lillith prime

Alma and Granberia can fight her to a standstill and Tamamo is tamamo.

I forgot how fucking funny it is that if you lose with any of the heavenly knights when they're hacking the towers, Luka is sitting on a bench in front of the gate kicking his feet and humming only for a fuck huge behemoth to appear and say "yo, gonna rape ya!" After replaying the old games, part 2 is narratively still my favorite but the spirit shuffling is tedious as hell. Not having gnome up is basically an instant loss for every fight.

Hell is known to be a complete RNG nightmare that wasn't balanced at all, as MGQ is a puzzle game and you kind of cant make a puzzle game much harder without make it more complex, so trtr just added rng.

Lilith-O’s counterpart is Threeden, both characters being significantly more powerful ‘complete’ forms for them, and by that point Alice has the dark goddess form. Base Lilith is still really powerful. Trying to view the original VN through the comical powercreep scale of Paradox just starts to enter forest-for-the-trees territory where you can start to forget how strong certain characters actually are.

I'd say that is canon but because Ilias route is canonically second so she keeps some of that power she gains from that route or part 1/2. It's kinda like trying to balance Hild's power level where she's an early boss but canonically stronger than like 90% of the party ignoring their upgrades.

Assuming it's Tamamo or Erubetie's that means she isn't capable of making something that can actually tank the ancestor or nuclear bomb attacks, and she likely wouldn't be able to make something that counters Alice aside from a second Arcenciel which might just lose from Alice deciding to remember dodging.
