Rev 2 released the same year as Console Tekken 7, MVCI and the global final release of CF. Back then it was a nicher title riding off BlazBlue's back so it was never going to succeed in a climate that didn't know what it was. Meanwhile Strive released by its lonesome with Rollback in the lockdown era with basically a lot of the same traits + a dub (yes, this helps) so it was finally allowed to establish itself. Daisuke even in interview said "I had to kill old Guilty Gear to make it popular" because he knew trying to pander to old fans exclusively wasn't the way to go. This is still personally not what I think one should do, but it's what he did and it "worked"

You're also assuming I'm one of those "XYZ will save SNK" people to begin with when I've been a proponent in arguing that SNK needs to establish a reason to give a shit about their IP since day one. Look back in 2023 I said CotW should've been something other than a pvp 2D fighting game and something more along the lines of what Fatal Fury 1 was being more story and content focused over tourney-focused and I was called a retard for it. I do think it's the genre's fault for SNK's failures because they simply don't belong here. Fighting game is not a red carpet genre, it's not where one should heavily focus their livelihood on and all successes come elsewhere, be it from real video games or an adaption of another work

The sole exception is ArcSys who at least licenses Kunio to persist while they're busy doing gruntwork for other IP like Dragon Ball and Marvel. Guilty Gear's successes are an impossible fluke to replicate and it's highly likely to never happen again unless Bamco outright gives up on developing Tekken at this point, and that would require a game looking as pretty as Strive to come out to take that spot

Can't even say French Bread because Melty is more well known than Uni and Melty is also an IP adaption. This just proves the point at the end, KOF or CotW are basically interchangeable, especially since SNK did a piss poor job establishing any reason why anyone should care about FF over KOF. Retconning his death legitimately has no purpose and it ruins a good chunk of the appeal of Geese to begin with. He's a much more human villain than Bison or Heihachi the Asspull Machine, so keeping him dead is a good way to add any form of stakes to the world given so much of FF is influenced by his action. The repercussions will never be felt because he's just absent from the story now, there is no redemption and there is no retribution. Geese being dead didn't magically fix South Town

But KOF already has him still alive so you don't even lose out on Geese being a major character in SNK games. He can fool around eternally in the Dream Match game. Meanwhile, Fatal Fury will definitely remain dead for good after CotW, so it's best to just close the book on this story after Wolves' Destiny is finished (if it even goes anywhere)

Unfortunately the end of the story just reposits Kain as the main antagonist again, so literally nothing was accomplished from MotW outside of answering that story's mysteries. The immediacy of needing to conclude this story is something I can't really praise SNK for, since they basically restarted the plot after supposedly ending it, but it would be nice to see something come of it instead of them shitting themselves as they have time and time again post-Orochi Saga

Given SNK is comfortable focusing exclusively on OG Fatal Fury characters and collabshit instead of introducing real newcomers to the game, I don't see them finishing up Wolves' Destiny any time soon.
