Planning on doing a transatlantic flight in the C-17 today lads, and I'll set the simrate to 2x during cruise as an experiment. I expect it to still take over three hours, but I'm interested to see if it still 'feels' like you're in a long flight, and whether it breaks anything. If it feels alright then it'll open up the world of long haul flights to me.

Well that was a bloody long flight even with the sim rate at 2x and was a mess at the end, the game has been running for nearly 6 hours now.

Here's what I've learnt
>the game fucks up plans made in littlenavmap, specifically approaches
>Increasing the sim rate to 2x is fine, it doesn't feel too fast, a 1.5x would be good but doesn't seem to be an option
>Flying over the Atlantic is boring
>The C-17 needs manual fuel management when the tanks get low
>The game makes you change frequencies between often the same FIR/UIR multiple times
>If you go for a piss the ATC will tell you to change frequency and then cancel IFR
>If for whatever reason you changed the flight plan (I did it by accident) and then submit that new one mid-flight the ATC will probably get confused and fuck the approach up
>I was hoping the approach would fly me over Manhattan but it didn't
>I didn't realise that KJFK had an overhaul, it's very choppy and used nearly all 16gb of my VRAM
Would I do it again? Not sure, using the sim rate does open up long haul for me, but there was nothing to look at for most of the flight, I just read my book. Maybe next time I'll do a long flight over land.

I'm normally a fan of long haul flying, but lately I've burned myself out on it. Been restricting myself to short hops of a couple hours.
Need to find something else I can entertain myself with without being too demanding while I do other things.. something that can run in the background. Unfortunately trains are too hands on for this.
>>
>>581016583
NO, you're not really simming unless you are using the oldest, most obscure hardware running on open source firmware that was created as a workaround for some absolute nigger of a company deliberately killing the product before it's useful lifespan had ran out.
I don't make the rules, I just enforce them.

>>
>>581108661
Yes but it is actually secondary.
The first rule is to flight level, what you do by keeping your eye on the horizon, finding the correct stick pressure to have no vertical speed, and then trimming to balance the efforts on the stick.

Climbing ? You trim to keep attitude. Going to land ? You trim to keep correct approach. If you don't trim you'll wrestle the stick and porpoise.

But yeah, that's all boring IRL stuff to make flights safe and fly to the numbers. In the simulator you overspeed the airframe six times to the minute and call it monday.

your plane is "rigged" (aka permanently trimmed) for straight and level flight in it's design cruise condition
if you have a roll imbalance it's because you're not putting the required amount to torque into the propeller
set the correct torque to balance the roll
if you can't maintain altitude with the applied balancing propeller force, then you're at the wrong altitude
your 2nd option is do the the light airplane trick and create a fuel imbalance to trim out a roll

I bought that Isle of Man racing game on sale for two fiddy. It's neat but it's too fast for me. Is there any good racing game focusing on motorcycles from the 20s to 40s? Those sound better anyway.

I've tweaked the sensitivity settings enough so that it's manageable with the t16000m but there's still too much tension, twist rudder is shit and the throttle sticks. I'm actually going to order some lube to try and fix the latter issue as I've seen other people say it can help. I don't like the tension in the stick but I'm not sure what can be done about that, I don't know if lube would help that.
>>
>>581239484
You could probably use ControllerBuddy or something similar to change the stick twist into relative input instead. This way you could let go of it.
I had a makeshift setup for collective and used analog stick with a relative setup and it works better than the direct 1:1 mapping or whatever.
It's still horrible but stlightly better.
>>
>>581245248
That's a good point actually, I wonder if there's a way to do that natively in the game, I'll have to check next time. The R22 is actually very tame and doesn't need much on the anti torque pedals, powerful helis like the 500E are a nightmare with it though.

AI being shit only matters for the MiG-15 campaign, from the US perspective the war was a turkey shoot and it doesn't really matter how poorly the Charlie prop pilots fly.
Multiplayer isn't super active, but the regulars are all completely cracked WW2 dogfighting pros so expect to get stomped if you aren't already one of those.
AI generated voice lines get old fast and the optimization is still dogshit, especially for VR, but the destruction mechanics are incredible and worth the price of admission.

Can someone explain the US radar gunsight to me? It says in the documentation for the US aircraft that come with the A-1C that it can be used for rockets and bombs at 9k feet of distance or less but it clearly doesn't line up. And yes I am waiting for the sight to adjust to the distance but the ordnance is always way off. There also aren't any different selectable modes for the sight. >report couple of bugs
>one is about the GHD going dark when MCSG (Main Computer and Symbol Generator)switch being turned off
>reply is "we think that's accurate"
Am I retarded? I was under the impression that Get Home Displays like pic rel were ISISes that their sole purpose was to still function in the eventuality that everything else went dark in the cockpit so that you could make it home.
>>
Is Iron Nest still welcome here? What with the ballistics simulation not being an actual simulation and such.

I just need to vent a bit, because holy shit are the devs retarded. They spent weeks after release to patch a bunch of non-issues, included a new feature for gamer dads, and now with the latest patch they STILL HAVEN'T fixed the numerous shit that prevents most people who aren't extremely lucky or can spend hours and days resetting to get the correct RNG to get all medals.

The funniest thing here is the Phantom Battery accuracy medal being bugged. Real OGs might remember that in 1.0 the Phantom Battery shots counted as your own, so you always got friendly fire warnings when the PB hit something.
Then they patched that out; however, PB shots still count as your own. Why is that? BECAUSE THEY LITERALLY ARE YOUR OWN!!! The dev thought it was a clever way to just spawn player shots and call it a day, and now he has to rework the entire mechanics in order to actually have non-player shots (which will undoubtedly introduce new bugs).
The worst thing about this is, how did nobody ever catch that? They had like a million EA players, and nobody ever seems to have gone for all gold medals? Or did they know about it and thought "eh, nobody will notice"?
Like, what the actual fuck. Shame the reviews are still overwhelmingly positive, because in the current state I certainly could not recommend it to anyone, and after they have fixed everything only for a tenner tops.

>>
>>581325497
Maybe both main and standby instruments systems are powered through a common switch but are on a different bus..
Only way to know how it works is to have the electrical diagrams (can often be found on older planes), or some POH describing instrument failure protocols.

That could be it, but it seems like it would go against the whole point of a ISIS/GHD.

The MCSG is technically driven by the right BUS, but I still fail to see any mention in the manual about how the GHD is connected to the MCSG beside the fact that the MCSG should generate all symbology. (the PDU and GHD imho should still at least display power if the fault is only within the MCSG)

Watching the stream now, or flicking through it, apparently 'all' 2020 era planes will come natively to 2024 in time all due to be completed by the end of next year and handled by inibuilds. Someone asked whether the DC-3, MU-2 and AN-225 are getting updated which prompted this answer, which is great as I love the DC-3 and it could do with updating, I think that was another Aeroplane Heaven plane.

- unzip to C:\Games\F15
- import the _REG file (modify it if you want a different drive/folder, check the file if before importing if you have a brain)

It has a fixed .exe, fixed .dll libraries and preinstalled DDrawCompat (with 4x resolution upscaling) and doesn't need a CD image.
