Maybe I've been underrating the Eshin triads. I've started using them for backline guarding against Helf dragons, phoenixes and cav and they've been ok. But during my siege of Lothern they did amazing. They snuck in with an assassin hero and I believe took out 3-4 cav units by themselves. capped several and even held off Phoenix guard for a long time. They were also effective against archers since their smoke bombs allowed them to sneak up on them.

I wish CA would change how Heroes and lords worked in Warhammer. Make each army have separate slots for them so it's 1-Lord 2-Heroes and 20 units. I hate how Hero spam become so common in late campaign's when some AI armies fields like 5 or more of them. I usually try to limit each army to 2 heroes at most Campaign movement and replenishment is simply to valuable, and if the lord is not a caster I'll bring a single mage too. But I just don't enjoy Single entity units compared to to an actual unit

Cavalry are made of glass with small unit counts and tragically low mass so even if you perfectly hammer and anvil a unit with a cavalry rearcharge they're likely to suffer 20-30% losses. Cycle charging doesn't really work in this era of games because cavalry just get fucking murdered and rout trying to disengage from melee combat under any circumstances. But in Shogun 2 especially the preponderance of archers and the fact that cavalry have no missile resistance means that a unit of archers can hold their ground and wipe out half of a cavalry force charging them.Like the gunpowder games, 1-2 units of cavalry to run down shattered units or smash into distracted archers are useful but even the best cavalry are not cost-effective at smashing the rear of enemy lines unless they're already wavering and about to break on the charge.Also since Shogun 2 has autoreplenishment, the casualties that cavalry sustain doing basically anything become a major issue on the campaign map where they recover at a rate of like 3 horsemen per turn unless you're in a province with an expensive cavalry recruitment structure. This is why the 'meta' revolves around Ashigaru, which are fantastic meatshields to absorb casualties for your more valuable units and replenish quickly everywhere, and archers that can inflict mass casualties without exposing themselves.
