If you only pull dog as your back-up then it can kind of work to an extend. You are stuck swapping on turn 2 and turn 6 but most characters want to swap in on two turns in a row to stack their effects, usually somewhere between turn 4, 5 and 6. Only A1+ can do that. It is a very large difference because now you stack more effects on your biggest burst turns. The good news is that her weapon is just more critdmg and not gamechanging so you could invest in A1 before R0 if you like playing for score.

SMT Vengeance did it in my opinion better without even remotely changing up most of the aesthetics by simply mixing up or intensifying the character agencies and while it might have been subpar on some corners it felt distinct in its execution. PQ2 helped out the female protagonist in that regard by empathizing the differences that can make by entering or mixing different worlds.
