hello cuties,

the /vrg/ soccer/football/footie/divegrass team will be participating in a small side-invitational tournament starting next weekend (not this upcoming weekend the next one, weekend of the 25th-27th).
no gacha /vg/ generals are allowed in this tournament so we will only be going up against certified REAL™ games.
remember when /vg/ had generals about real games?

"i spent 500 days undercover" will also be spending this tournament undercover on the roster.

"two more weeks, trust the plan" has been renamed to "was it worth the weight?"

more info will be posted when we find out who our opponents are.

But not dealing with mura effect made lcd much better despite the lower brightness
Can't claim a headset has better blacks when pure blacks is as black as a galaxy on top of other drawbacks from oled

In complete black environments white cause a glare in oled pixels can’t be small enough. I don’t find it a big deal compared to the mura found in led but it’s there. Oled also cannot get as bright, but the colors are so much better saturated and blacks are perfect so I don’t personally see it as that big of an issue.

What’s crazy is the PSVR2 was worst of both worlds. It had oled glare making everything blurry while also having fresnel lenses so everything was even blurry and had chromatic aberration. You had to start directly in the dead center to see anything in that thing. And that’s on top of it being bulky and the eye adjust betting out of sync when you moved your head too fast.
Worst piece of junk ever

>Use a 4k oled monitor for a bit and you will realize your concerns of smearing are nonexistant
I have a 4K OLED monitor
I have a Bigscreen Beyond

I can absolutely notice the smearing on Bigscreen whereas I can't on my monitor so this is definitely not a great argument.
>>
Frame is exactly in the range of not so expensive that I cannot afford it but feels too expensive for how many issues there are with it so I am pretty conflicted about going for it or keep waiting for some theoretical future headset. Would go for it if it had some combo of 2 usb ports/better battery/decent audio jack since not being able to use headphones and charge with a 1-2 hour battery sounds like it would suck. I do really want to try VR so will probably just sign up and decided what to do on waitlist placement but still very undecided.
>>
>>581137763
The smearing is 1% as bad as the screendooring you'll get for the 40 minutes the frame is alive
>>
>>581138138
It's top tier if not best in the standalone headset department. It's pretty much only even competing with headsets that are $500 or more.
>>

It's already confirmed that they'll be releasing a first-party headstrap with Index speakers and hotswappable battery in a few months.

Speakers are reported to be good enough for right now for what they are, and you can always plug in the battery to either a wall outlet or another battery in your pocket you hotswap.

What the market wants is extremely clear and the specs we are asking for are not even modern
Oled headsets existed since 2017
The resolutions and refresh rates we want are not groundbreaking or even impressive

The only reason for the frame to exist is to shove 10 year old hardware in it so a couple peoppe will pay $2000 to play silksong on the couch

Its almost 2026 and people are excusing and defending panels worse than a 2016 macbook air

Bro you really should look at things before forming opinions of them. The front part and the strap come apart completely. They're modular. There's a literal front port... for a module. It is literally modular.

I doubt there's a graphics card in existence that can handle whatever you think you want, especially wirelessly.
>>
>>581138693
You can split individual parts and it has the expansion port
Headstrap and battery, face/back pads, core module are all detacheable
Only way to make it more modular would have been being able to swap internal component of the core module which is impossible/useless with small soc hardware
>>
>>581138794

>>
Bit the bullet and got on the list.
If I don't end up getting chosen, I'm probably not gonna bother buying any other "high-end" VR setup, Steam Frame was the one I was waiting for, so if I don't get it I'll just accept that I'm not gonna ever own a good VR setup.
I will let fate decide if my wallet gets fucked or not.

Do you guys think it was disingenuous how every review used the ergonomic straps and grips and then compared it favorably to a quest 3 without any of the comfort straps available? It just seems like false advertising and a bad review metric. Even Gamersnexus did so, but they were more Sperging about privacy while uploading to YouTube, a site famous for not tracking every single detail to serve ads
>>
>>581140839
If by "we" or "these groups", you mean vrg then no we don't have them and don't have a consensus on them (or at least I've never seen/heard anyone from here having one). But yes, there are randos out there with fluxposes already. Though, I don't know what their thoughts are on them cause I don't interact with said randos
>>
>>581142830
I found it funny that in the Gamer's Nexus review they get a guy to talk about his experience using it, right as he's praising the straps Steve interrupts him to say they're $60 extra and you can immediately hear the enthusiasm in his voice leave.

Are there any AI friend/waifu simulators that work exclusively with local AI and have a VR mode?

Surely someone has thought of putting together voice recognition, TTS and some medium-sized LLM.
Would love to run something like this on the Frame, seeing how it has a dedicated NPU for AI shit.

Yes and no. Reviewers want to compare stock vs stock, but I see the point that you want to make a comparison with how people actually use the quest. The gamers nexus guys said they have quests at home with actual headstraps on them. A quest with a proper headstrap is a ubiquitous thing I'm sure all these guys have used. It's still true that the frame with a soft headstrap is the most comfortable headset ever, except probably losing to a full size facial interface big screen, and even with a hard headstrap the quest 3 is cope tier. You can get the quest 3 soft with no pressure points but nothing will fix the weight.

Fashion Club
Theme: Adventurer
Date: September 25

The Fashion Club is a newly started (hopefully recurring) meet focused on making outfits that aren't the standard casual, sexy, tactical, etc. The goal is to build a wardrobe full of great outfits that are not skimpy(without good reason), follow a theme, and that you'd want to wear anytime and anywhere, including public instances. The given themes will be very vague or broad, allowing club members to freely interpret their design based on a loose idea to prevent uniformity(like bunny suits or tactical gear). Meets are planned for possibly once a month, once every two months, or once a quarter.

The theme for this first meet is Adventurer, typically the medieval fantasy type but any interpretation is allowed as long as the first thought by anyone on seeing this outfit is without a doubt "that's an adventurer". Don't forget your weapons, your trinkets, anything you might need on a quest. Bonus points for interactive weapon gimmicks. It does not matter how you made the outfit, if you got an outfit on booth, kitbashed, the final result matters.

There is no contest(unless the people want one). Show up, show off, see what others have made, take pictures.

Anyone is free to join to show off or spectate, but there is one restriction on the final design:
- You must be mostly dressed and show no skimpy features(that means no chainmail bikinis).

Considering a mini world hop about an hour after the meet for photoshoots if anyone is interested. If there is interest, I will be seeking volunteers for other regions to host the meet and/or the world hop photoshoot afterwards.
Contact etzam_nar to discuss.

Most of their review didn’t even acknowledge that the same privacy agreements they were reading states hardware the quest 3 can’t do and that the majority of the data collected is only stored locally for specific features like creating the emoji thing for your calls, and they skirted over the fact that a lot of the features can be turned off, or that the child data only applies to child accounts if you use more than one on your device. Room geometry for instance is needed to draw your boundary and to play the ar games and use some of the ar features, it’s not selling the layout of your house to advertisers and states as much. They focus on the fact that there were 83,000 words instead of the substance of what those words meant or that they were there for transparency reasons.

Yes steam frame collects less data, but it does significantly less. It doesn’t need geometry tracking because it doesn’t come with a good camera or apps to use it. It didn’t collect child information because it doesn’t allow for more than one account and stream doesn’t allow kids under 13, the list goes on and on. The quest 3 is not significantly different privacy wise than the frame especially if you turn off a lot of the extra features.
>>
>>581156818
>Room geometry for instance is needed to draw your boundary and to play the ar games
It states specifically that this info is uploaded to meta's servers, which would not be necessary if the only purpose were for ar games to use it.

>>581157252
It says it “can” be uploaded not that it is, and they defies that this is for spatial anchors which is specifically for AR game s requiring two headsets
>>
>>581157252
NTA but I assume AR game or app states saved to the cloud might require some geometry data. Cloud servers already partly explain why they have sections saying they take you or your child's gameplay and microphone recordings since it can go straight to a cloud server when you hit record. This feature is used heavily by developers to get footage from beta testers because it takes one click to give them access to a recording.
In an ideal world all this stuff would be opt-in and end up with separate terms but normies need their convenience/instant gratification so we get this jeet software chimera.

The EULA links to it. https://www.meta.com/legal/privacy-policy/

Also, just like Valve, it states it only uses the camera and microphone data if you make a report and if not it’s deleted.

You can choose to not believe them, but then you’d have to choose to also not believe valve

That supplemental notice only covers other apps, not Meta. Meta's privacy policy says WE COLLECT.
You can also choose to delete enhanced data (but not regular spatial data, mind) from their servers, but again, the notice only covers that specific data, not any metadata they may have derived on it, like "This user owns a TV, it's 55 inches." "This user has a queen-size bed" etc.
And again, with eye and face tracking they say they don't store THE IMAGES, which are processed locally, but they say nothing about what they do with information they derive from that data, and specifically state they can collect what you're looking at, how you interact with apps, etc. Learn to read a fucking privacy policy bro. They all use very, very specific language and you can't infer anything beyond what is explicitly stated by them.

I like Steve and have followed GN for a long time, but I feel like they’re trying to figure out what to do now that there isn’t a lot of tech released each year and their viewers aren’t likely to buy new hardware any time soon due to prices.
But this whole crusader stuff they’re doing doesn’t always hit. It worked against Newegg and I think the LG tv thing was popular, but they look like they’re grasping at straws now. And I get it, they spent a ton of money on very expensive equipment to have the most I depth and accurate reviews right before the market made it so they can’t use any of it. Their expensive noise testing room has almost never been used, and that new thermal camera set up for the steam frame was cool but there’s no way they’ve had a lot of use for it

Just go plead ignorance somewhere else

Companies collect everything they can about you and sell it to someone else, this is common place today. They aren't gang stalking you, they aren't out to get you, they don't give a shit about you and just want money. There, we got the steel man of your argument out of the way. You just have no idea who's going to get your data and what they will do with it. Most of the time it's people that want to sell you shit. Eventually it may find its way to someone who does want to fuck with you. Data breaches are also common. And we're entering an era where there may be more AI agents than people that have way more time and attention than humans are capable of and the privacy and security of consumer tech isn't ready for it and is designed for human limitations. Chances that a human is going to read your entire daily household transcript from your smart TV and blackmail you with it? Basically zero. But that's light reading for an AI.

It's not motion sickness, it's your brain thinking you're poisoned because what your eyes are seeing doesn't match up with your inner ear so you clearly are about to die and are hallucinating. The trick is to not push through when you start feeling sick, but instead take the headset off, take a 5 minute break, and then come back to it once you're feeling better. As you do this, you'll break your brain into being able to dissociate the visual stimulus from what your inner ear is reporting, and eventually not have any issues. If you keep trying to power through, you can instead condition yourself to start feeling ill whenever you put on VR and never be able to get over it like that one fucking retard at Valve who fucked over VR development for years.

Meta asked me to subject myself to a face scan with my phone camera just to make an account.
Valve didn't.
I can just tell Steam to stay offline.
I can't do that with the Quest, as soon as it connects to my wifi network it starts fucking my shit up unless I block it in the router (which not all routers support).
>>
>>581172417
Then it's fine on VRC side. I'm not big into FT, but as far as I know, it needs the following:
>various parameters that get updated by OSC and control the animator
>animator that toggles FT expressions based on those parameters
>animations that get toggled on using some blendtrees, most likely
any proper FTfag should feel free to correct me on that. And so:
>enter play mode
>check if you have a metric ton of parameters added
>in animator, check if it doesn't have anything like "[no valid animations]" in any of the FT related layers, iirc VRCFury does that to mark them
>if you can, dig into individual animation files and check if path to the mesh in those aligns with path to the mesh on your avatar (you didn't rename face mesh or anything weird like that, right?)

Your problem could also have a simple solution that every FT enthusiast knows, but stuff above is my basic logic take on it.

Hey that's cool man, if that's how you feel about it that's how you feel, I just think it's stupid to act like anything there was being misrepresented, because if you actually dig in and read it it's genuinely as atrocious as GN was making it sound in his review. I don't even think he's milking honestly (at least not that hard), I think he was just genuinely appalled when he drilled down into this shit at just how much tracking most companies and devices do, and feels a need to say something. Valve certainly collects plenty of data as well (and they have had some questionable practices in the past, especially concerning Valve Anti-Cheat), but most of the private stuff is simply necessary to process credit card payments, and there's also a reason their privacy policy page is one straightforward page of legalese and not an impenetrable web of hyperlinks and supplemental policies.

I just think everyone who sign up for a frame is going to get one. Discussion about it is almost completely dead and nothing like the steam machine. People had almost a year to ruminate over it and come to their senses. Machine was also lame as fuck but had more appeal as a non justifiable fuck it purchase for reasons I'll never understand but nonetheless that happened. The same leap for quest 3 owners to buy a frame just isn't happening.

Steam machine fit my very specific niche use case of a pc that could fit in a tv tray with the monitor and keyboard beside it in the corner while I babysit. I don’t like handheld gaming so I never wanted a deck or ally. But I am a unique case. Vr in this scenario doesn’t work because I can’t just look to the left and make sure the kid is safe

>>581175284
I wonder how many purchasers are motivated by rare situations

Like for me, I just don't have the back to play with a quest. I like standing VR and constantly doing two handed weapons at high ready in forefront for an hour is rough.

I also don't have pc handheld, laptop, or tablet or just anything bigger than phonescreen for traveling. Being able to use the frame as a light mobile PC is a big justification for the cost because I would have to purchase one of those without it.

If these two things weren't true I would probably just be fine with quest 3 and live with being a compressionlet.
>>
Getting a Quest 3
Battery or non-battery head strap for balance?
>>
>>581176342
battery makes it pretty heavy but helps a lot with balance
>>
>>581176342
Battery. You increase overall weight and move strain from the neck to the back, but once you've used the battery strap for a while and try to go back, you can't tolerate the headset pulling your head down. And once the headset is sorta balanced you can properly load the top strap and loosen the headset squeeze.
>>
I'm new to VR, Is there any real reason to shell out the extra $250 for the 1TB Frame over the 256GB Frame when a 1TB microSD card is less than $150 and it's primarily a streaming headset anyway? I can't really see myself installing huge amounts of stuff locally, but I wonder if anyone else with more experience than me would say otherwise.
>>
As someone who had a PSVR1 and a CV1, the compression I see on my Quest 2 and 3 using virtual desktop is very noticable, even with a dedicated router. I'm very interested in how the foveated eye tracking bitrate looks, as Linus said it looks just as good as wired PC VR. I just want the picture to not be compressed anymore. I like my quest 3, and the steam frame will eat up 1/3rd of my net worth, but if its a 7 year lifespan device like the Index was, I'm down.

I can see myself playing hotline miami comfy in bed via the frame, using my steam controller I got a bit back
>>
>>581176342
battery, obviously

I don't get the obsession with quest headstraps. I get the balance argument and and the ones with useful featueres like battery holders, but if the strap itself feels uncomfortable you can fix that by wearing a $1 bandana instead of buying a $70 strap
>>
>>581176730
Quest 3 default strap is a slight step up from Q2 but still dogshit compared to even a $5 chinkshit rigid strap comfort-wise
>>
>been using q3 upper body estimation for a while
its not perfect but its actually kind of impressive once you setup VRC elbow params considering its 'built in'
its accurate for like 80-90% of the time as long as your not doing a weird with your elbows
>oh hey standable does the same thing but for full body
>what if i just use that for lower half and Q3 estimation for upper half while i bumfuck like a pinball instead of pulling the trigger on those slimes in my cart
holy shit this tool is so annoying to deal with.
half of the shit just doesnt want to work, the other half just decides to bug out and now your feetsies are crossed and your knees shoved into the floor because why not, and the third half is spazzing out because somehow there is a bug that only happens when you are using wireless though VD that turns you into a tweaker.
did you make sure to lean your head back far enough while sitting properly to trigger sitting detection? no you didnt. you sat WRONG.
did you try double tapping your bed? try it again. no again. no that didnt work try again. are you sure your controllers are bound as controllers?
also your holding your T pose wrong you FUCKING IDIOT your feet are too far out/not far enough out.

there even a anti piracy false flag problem big enough that there is an entry in the FaQ about it
any of you newfags thinking about picking this up, just dont. just deal with VRC's IK and use gogoloco.
im getting my $20 back and using $10 for trepang 2 to get FEAR'd in vr

>>581176685
The frame is so weak that the games it can run standalone will be old and/or small. It would have to be a power use scenario. I read that an Arcturus guy specified a speed of SD card to use for live capture with the passthrough add-on, so it seems SD card is fast enough for that. Even if it wasn't you could record on the 256GB and transfer your recording.
>>
>>581175720
>>581175521
My headset has color passthrough, but it’s not as convenient, plus it adds the audio that makes it harder to hear vs a muted monitor.
>>
>>581176720
Anton from H3VR said he's a compression autist and he could only really notice text wasn't as clear as display port. I'm sure there's other cases like water surfaces or something that are notorious for challenging compression.
>>
>>581177243
Headphone in one ear or turn the volume off while playing flat games on a big virtual screen is far more convenient then carrying a full setup including monitor
>>
>>581176720
I use foveated streaming currently and have for a while now. Linus is a fucking liar. You 100% notice it. And though it clears up fast,l when you change your gaze, it’s never so fast that you didn’t notice your peripheral being blurry. Imagined your edge to edge clarity being fuzzier, that’s that it’s like. You notice peripheral fuzz that clears up when you look at it as if it’s that squiggle in your eye.

You can mirage the compression with a higher bitrate.

On a side note I use my steam controller to play flat pc games in vr in bed right now and it IS comfy. I also enjoy being in Vr and playing Helldivers 2 at my desk
>>
>>581176720
I noticed compression on my Q3 even running 350 mbps at 264+, I don't notice it using 100 mbps AV1 on my GXR with foveation nor whatever black magic Steam Link is doing on the hacked together apk from the Pico one
>>
>>581177638
This is likely due to your eye tracking speed. I tried it on P4P and I had to turn the non-foveated res way, way down to be able to actually see it. I guess P4P just has faster eye tracking.
>>
>>581177687
150mbps with AV1 on my GXR also has no compression. I only use ultra though, do you use monster? I get around 4k mbps with my dedicated router and I have a 4090/9800x3D setup
>>
>>581177850
I don't remember the stupid fucking names, but I use the one that's listed as for a 4090 since I'm running a 4080 super and i5 13600KF, which is my major regret over not getting an X3D processor. I can observe the compression if I have to crank down my bitrate to like 60 mbps, which I currently have to do because fucking gay goblin is a retard and somehow managed to brick something in VD so you get massive decoding times if you dare to run AV1 at 100 mbps or higher, which was working just fine before the most recent version. This is apparently a common enough issue that he has it in the fucking known bug list for both AndroidXR and MetaOS, and yet thought it was fine to push the update.

It should tell you something that no techbro measured the eye tracking latency on the frame. It's almost as if every single one had no idea what they were holding.
>>
>>581184546
Or maybe it’s just not as good as Linus said it was. Valve did not outdo Meta and Samsung on hardware
>>
>>581185335
If it's sending it fast enough that it can do foveated rendering faster than your eye can refocus after moving it should be pretty quick. I have no respect for techbros though so I do not care what they think.
>>

>>
>>581184546
For starters, I said you notice it in your peripheral, then it sharpens when you focus in on that spot. Something I doubt Linus attempted to do because he’s a retard.
Second, the Galaxy XR is literally built around eye tracked menus. Eye tracking is the main gimmick of the device, try it some time
>>
>>581186037
I'd like to see measurements though; since if the latency is low it means the problems aren't eye tracking latency but something else; because in general your eyes literally cannot see what is outside of the sharpest central part of your vision in great detail. The outside parts do detect motion very well though so if there's 'motion' in the lower-encodes due to encoding artefacts that would cause problems
>>
>>581186176
NTA but when I tried it on Pico you could see if if you turned the non-foveated res down enough. You can resolve some detail, but by and large if you bumped it up just a bit it was basically invisible, certainly the sort of thing you'd forget about entirely once you're even a little immersed, and beyond a certain point completely imperceptible once you hit the level of detail your periphery can discern.
>>
>>581180818
Read the sentence. I know headsets have eyetracking and foveated streaming is a steam VR feature. But valve controls the stack from the headset to the adapter with the steam frame. Don't expect the same latency with just any headset and any router and any network. Reviewers are not fucking this up. Valve has a demo where the non foveated area is black.
>>
>>581185335
That would be one of the hardest tests to set up a rig for.

> What?
An instance where people are encouraged to join for a cup of tea and snacks if they fancy it. The instance will be closed after an hour. Likely in a simple room with a table and a video player
> Why?
To share relaxing time before bigger instances and after work. With a focus on things having to stay calm and simple. Making it time limited to ensure it is meant to be an in-between time rather than something big. For that reason it will be posted in the thread but as invite+ .

Privacy is something that most people don't realize they need until it's already too late.
Take this story as a good real-world example:
https://www.freep.com/story/news/local/michigan/oakland/2020/01/02/jewish-west-bloomfield-stabbing/2794511001/
tl;dr: Jewish man reports to the police that he was stabbed by a violent antisemite, police then use the data from his own iToddler devices to prove that he lied and in fact stabbed himself in order to blame it on the Goyim.

Now you might think to yourself "well I'm not a conniving Jew, I don't do that sort of bizarre shit" but that actually makes your situation worse because Zuckerberg and others in powerful positions are people just like that, and you never know where your info ends up. Look up what the Stasi called "Zersetzung." The more info someone has on you, the easier it is to blackmail you, gaslight you, manipulate you, defame you, frame you for crimes, destroy your social connections, scam you out of your money, whatever. And we're at the point where the people doing this shit to you no longer have to be people, it can be automated AI agents.

Not everyone is paying massive attention to a big hardware drop that valve specifically makes come out of nowhere
3 days is more fair than 24 hours, and the entire point of 3 days was so that scalpers couldn't hammer the site to prevent others from getting in.
>>
>>581199881
>Not everyone is paying massive attention to a big hardware drop that valve specifically makes come out of nowhere
exactly
the people who are paying attention SHOULD be the ones to get the frame first
>scalpers couldn't hammer the site to prevent others from getting in.
24 hours is plenty for that
>>
>>581199992
>the people who are paying attention SHOULD be the ones to get the frame first
the people who pay the most attention are the scalpers running bots that auto-refresh the Steam Frame website 2,000 times per day
>>
>>581199992
Valve doesn't think like that; they want distribution to be fair. With that argument you might as well reduce the window to a free-for-all right when it drops so only the people paying attention the most get one.

I own a very old WMR headset (Samsung Odyssey+) which I haven't used for like three or four years.
Recently I connected it again, and for regular sitting sims it works well because head position is fixed.
However, when running Steam Room Setup like I always did, I get some pretty weird behavior: After booting up SteamVR I can put on the headset and see myself standing a bit to the right and below the actual center spot.
When running the room setup in the same fashion I always did, it completely chokes and the screen starts flickering between the old position and some position that also doesn't seem to be the new one.
I assume it's because of some updates.
Now I am wondering if it's something I can fix myself, e.g. by deleting and re-generating some config file etc.

That's simply network ping latency it doesn't take into account panel responsiveness or the host pc encode latency.
GN has the action to photon latency at around 65ms. About 10ms faster than the Q3, and about 40ms slower than a standard monitor (he did not test a wired vr headset).
>>
>>581219514
>Errrrrrm akshually
I mean... yeah it's ping.
Hence it saying Ping, because it's the ping.
I think a WIRELESS ping of 5ms is noteworthy. Because even with the archer meme router, you will not get a 5ms ping on a quest pro or a quest 3.
>>
>>581219816
I can around 7ms on BE900 so I think it boils down more to router than the headset. But maybe Frame just has better WiFi module as well.
>>
>>581219816
You do get 5ms ping on any regular wifi router
I remember testing this years ago with my q2
The frame's latency has like 1-2ms difference between using the regular network vs dongle
I think it's cool and I want one but don't gas up shit you don't understand

Just keep restarting until it fixes itself.

right click steamvr -> properties -> Game Versions & Betas -> select 'previous'
>>
>>581233248
Most likely it's also caused by Steam version mismatch or connection between SteamVR and Steam. But also, new SteamVR UI is updated, but not much.

Just in case: if SteamVR fails to connect to Steam on launch, it starts in ancient standalone UI, the one with gray circlular buttons, which IS fully functional still.

I had a standard layout which worked great with the vive wands. Didn't have to do some combination of button/trigger presses to get my gestures going, just rest thumb on a different corner of the trackpad and it would go. Then I upgraded to a q3 and the controllers were such dogshit for doing expressions I coped with hand tracking for a while which was also shit for expressions. Eventually got face tracking because nothing else would do.

No, why would it? If you don't move your face then face tracking isn't going to do anything.

That being said even if you have face tracking, nobody is going to bat an eye if you deadpan autism flouride stare everything because that's kind of the default for non-ft so its normalized.

Can someone explain to me why we can't use frame gen in vr. I understand it adds latency which can cause motion sickness, but if wireless connection on a quest works at like 70ms latency, shouldn't wired connections be low latency enough. Or even the frames wireless latency.

>>
>>581260915
"ubiquitous" is a funny word to use here because there is no way in hell the malformed offspring of the quest and the index is going to be the default. Its too expensive for people replacing a quest that want something cheap and it's too underpowered for people who want something at an enthusiast price point.

What the actual fuck.

I was planning to play this with a VR headset and a steering wheel.

Can I use the wheel or at least the vr controllers to control the menus when running in VR mode?

Or should I just get a refund before wasting hours trying to set this janky piece of shit up?

Unfortunately no, wireless mouse helps a lot if you're not sitting at your desk.

You don't really need the menus once you're driving

Doesn't really work for all of the controls, but binding reset car and reset vr view is helpful, and I'd recommend using content manager either way.

>>
>>581289747
dang. thought it would be better by now. wonder if it will be on par with the frame soon
>>
>>581289807
It's sort of simulated teleoperation, so the arm has to actuate to the target pose and has a maximum force it allows, and the verniers on your robot are also trying to hold your position/maneuver. The beam swords collide with eachother so you can bind, but they just pass through everything else (while burning stuff); Which I is maybe lore-accurate but I dunno.

and you can still park the shield or sword arm somewhere and grab the 6dof joystick for 'advanced' maneuvering. though as cool as it is in theory, it's starting to feel more like QWOP or that one meme fighting game where you did all the muscle inputs manually I can't remember the name of.
>>
>>581290590
Also added a replay viewer so I could tell what's going on in 3rd person. Again in theory it's all the autistic fun of 6dof docking simulator while also the autistic fun of hema, but it's a lot to keep track of. You might actually need to be a newtype for this shit.

There's probably some place in the parameter space between ultra autistic physics sim and like Until you fall/bamham level of simplification that's still actually fun; or maybe it is a skill issue. I still haven't actually played underdogs so I dunno where it draws the line. Multicrew with driver/swordsman is also maybe a possibility. I think I'm gonna try adding multiplayer as it is currently to see if a real sparring partner helps, and probably could slop in multicrew as well for a test.

With new frame content around, I will say objectively the controller tracking looks to be the best non-lighthouse tracking I have ever seen.
I have never needed to have my hands behind my head for longer than a few seconds, but being able to leave them behind your head while moving them around is insanely impressive.

But that’s sort of my dilemma. Yes the tracking looks superb, but in the most useless of ways. No vr game needs your hand behind your back or head longer than a quick second to grab gear or put it away. People say other headset tracking is bad, but nothing is actually unusable and even the worst tracking is still good enough to play any game really.

Controllers are the selling point for the frame for me, but I can’t honestly say controllers are worth the $1060

>>581292573
No reliable IMU tracking was needed. The most common case is just arms down at your side, but also pulling bow strings and bringing your trigger hand up to your cheek. I've always wanted to use my hand as cheek weld but my quest can only do it for a few seconds.
