People can fuck with language but generally it is pretty objective when there is a mistake; we can just look at public language rules and see if the rules were violated.Anyway, so at least professionally, an objective TL accuracy scale would be a line-by-line analysis with a binary mark whether the line has an error or not. (The severity of the inaccuracy matters in TL tests in terms of passing or failing, but they all contribute to the same accuracy rate.) To get into the first publisher I worked with you needed 97% accuracy, which basically meant in the 100 line test they gave you couldn't make more than 3 mistakes. Pretty simple. If you wanted to be more sophisticated you could reuse your 1-5 scale you used with Kurai Heya and make it so 2.5 points are needed to count as 1 line of inaccuracy, so a 5-point inaccurate line is like 2 inaccurate lines while a 1-point inaccurate line doesn't even count as whole one.

Just off the cuff I feel like it would be getting beyond what is understandable humans to start to stay stuff like "it has a 95 translation score out of 100 with 5 points taken away for heavily weighted errors but not many points taken for low-rated errors." It probably would not intuitively mean anything and therefore would only be used for superficial flame wars, probably.

Publishers generally use a program to split paragraphs into individual lines with a few markers used to do this, like 。marking the end of a line and forcing a newline even if it's part of a paragraph or even dialogue. So if one translates "Blah blah blah" right but "Blah blah" wrong, that's 1 line correct 1 line wrong, rather than 0 right 1 wrong because it's part of the same quotation. Basically the idea is to get the language into as small discrete segments as possible that are comprehensible as segments (aka individual sentences, basically) and then judge it with as much granularity as possible.

Severity score of 1~2 is great, 2-3~ is good, 3~4 is bad, and 4~5 is fucking awful. The math there is just like multiplying the number of each error tiers with the sentences effected then dividing by the sentences affected. (so a tier 2, tier 2, and tier 3 error would be 7 / 3 = 2.33 severity score). That seems pretty intuitive to me. The closer to 5 the severity score is the worse it is. And 5 naturally pushes the average up more since 5 is five times as big as 1 so a bunch of tier 5 errors will push the average up fast. The only problems is you can't focus on tiers 3-5 with such a score because then 3 will be the smallest number. Might be a clever way around that. Maybe just in general you can give 4-5 way more "weight", like count each one twice to boost the number of more.
