I'm new to Darktide, im leveling up a psyker as my first character. Whats the most useful staff to use as ranged & is Force Greatsword good for melee? What can I do to either do more damage or mitigate more damage? You're a glass cannon. As for secondaries, they're randomized so I wouldn't be anal about looking for them unless you REALLY want to. But I'm sure there's guides on steam and elsewhere for locations to check every run. If you see a corner that has a odd green glow, that's usually a good sign of a heretic totem or grims (but it's not like vermintide where you NEED all books to get good loot)

Perilous Combustion, Empyric Shock and Empathic Evasion are required. Spam mouse 1 for long range, you don't have to do secondary electric attack.Just A Dream node gives 25% damage reduction, not just toughness damage reduction. You can go for two health curios and one toughness curio if you want. Psyker can regen toughness constantly all the time already.

Never mind the part where +5% isn't actually a net +5% survivability increase, but rather +5% of your flat toughness. It doesn't stack as favorably as just using a resist perk. The weapons that use it best also happen to have terrible mobility, so you move very slow, which makes it awkward in auric. No need for cuckbubble, no worries about having to charge brain burst, no need to use a relatively weak keystone to even enable it.Also flame staff is just plain underwhelming against hordes of armor, so it's not super great in melee maelstroms either. Yes, even with the dogshit brittleness meme blessing. It's a joke compared to dedicated melee builds.

As others have said, flamestaff is mainly a cleave weapon, damnation doesn't have the density for it to truly shine, but it works well enough and is low cost in peril if you're still figuring out how to manage that. Most of the use you'll get out of it is M1 stagger against maniacs and maulers, which is big for you if you're not used to fighting them yet and big regardless since maybe most of your team will struggle against them as well. Makes racking up wins and therefore materials easier at least.

There's generally no benefit in playing support in auric and below, because your teammates will most likely be out-of-place malicelets that can barely survive against a handful of poxwalkers and likely break away from the team constantly to loot plasteel in every corner of the room.

Forceful will boost its stagger enough to knockdown Crushers while you beat them. Slips a bit in Havoc, but still useful for managing rager swarms and applying aoe debuffs.

The best I can think of is putting maniacs on the crusher to kill mutants before they toss your teammates, and maybe picking up a damage talent. You're still hamstrung by the crusher being fucking terrible for damage.
