Originally Worgen were invasive, malicious aliens from their own malicious alien dimension who would trick summoners into summoning them and then run amok, usually brutally murdering the summoner in the process. Arugal is the exception that proves the rule, his collars do jack shit and the Worgen think it's funny so they just pretend to serve him while manipulating him into killing the people he was trying to protect.

Playable Worgen are retail slop, Cata retconned them into being druids who took the form to fight Satyr but went insane and were banished to the Emerald Dream by Malfurion until a cure was found so they can rejoin the treehuggers.
