I kind of feel like Amy's design is stupid.Sonic has the spines running down his back that shows how his spin attack would be dangerous, plus the blue and the name Sonic relating him to acoustics and hence the speed of sound, and on top of it all the sneakers showing at least that he's very athletic.Tails really doesn't look like he does what he does, but once he starts doing it it just clicks. His tails spin like helicopter blades allowing him to fly. The name also works great for him if not a little on the nose. Him being a technician isn't really relevant to his design directly, but being a pilot actually works perfectly for a character who is about flying, so in that way it leads into him being a technician.Knuckles's design is so on the nose that I am not even going to explaint it, it's self-explanatory.Even Cream's design works in the same vein. Even when I was 8 years old I guessed that Cream would be able to fly simply because she has gigantic dumbo ears, and lo and behold that's exactly what she does. It's not genius, but it works out.Amy's design seems kind of stupid to me because it utterly sticks out in this regard. She seems to have Harley Quinn syndrome, and I don't mean sharing a love-struck character. I mean that Harley Quinn became a character of her own even though she was designed in relation to someone else. The problem is that Harley Quinn's design STILL communicates what she does, what she's like, and what she's all about. Amy's doesn't.The only thing we get out of her name, Amy Rose, is that she's a girl, as Amy is a girl's name and Rose is considered feminine. As for her design, not a single thing on it, from her hair, to her dress, to her boots, communicates that she's all about smashing things with a giant hammer. And now with the tarot cards being more common than before, there's even more added confusion. All in all, I think this character has somehow outgrown itself. She wasn't designed to do the things now does at all.

Have you ever played Sonic Battle? Or Tails' solo games from the classics? He uses dummy rings in Heroes and 06 too. It's all about what the character "does"; this is relevant for how the character may play in a game, so looking at the character's design is important. Personality is important too, but how the character plays is what's most important for gameplay, just like the personality of a character is more important for story than gameplay is.> stoic and and naive/gullible I think you may have misread.
