It's a good weapon on bugs, you can fire a few well placed grenades then reload or just reload after every shot and you put down a lot of fire for a primary. Maelstrom does NOT need rotating turret. What it needs is a wider traverse and for the gun to sit higher in the mount so it can depress further (and upwards too for that matter). Being a rotary gun in a relatively small caliber means the gun doesn't need to have as secure of a mount. It would have had a much better reception if it was noticeably more responsive and easier for the gunner to keep track of targets than the regular Bastion cannon.
