It's easier for him to make excuses and come to his own conclusions by making assumptions about the women he kills (to which he calls Yu out in the Golden anime for making assumptions about who Yu perceived him to be), than it would be to acknowledge that his actions caused pain to someone else, and resulted in their demise.In a way, I think he's meant to make the player ask themselves what they would do if they were in his shoes, and whether or not if they too would allow that kind of power to go to their heads. Maybe he even represents a portion of how the player may feel about themselves. Seemingly kind-hearted and aloof on the outside, while fostering some insane ugliness on the inside. Like he's meant to make the player have an introspective moment about themselves and (hopefully) change for the better.But maybe I'm just talking out of my ass.
