346 lad, my fellow trainer connoisseur, have you heard of the Fokker S.14 Machtrainer? Because I hadn't.

1955 Dutch but with a Rolls-Royce engine, only 21 made, side-by-side seating with apparently enough room to theoretically have a third crew member. Three fatal crashes in the 60s. I don't know why it was called the Machtrainer as it had a max speed of 390kn.

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Airliners. The skill is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of procedure most of the flying will go over a typical gamer's head. There's also the Pilot's cautious anticipation, which is deftly woven into the routines - the operating philosophy draws heavily from Ernie Gaan's literature, for instance. The jetlinerchads understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of the checklist, to realize that they're not LARP - they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike airliners truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the gravity in PM's existential catchphrase "Vee One!," which itself is a cryptic reference to Rejected Takeoffs and The Go No Go Decision. I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Juan Browne's genius wit unfolds itself on their computer screens. What fools.. how I pity them.

And yes, by the way, i DO have a Boeing tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It's for the flight attendant's eyes only- and even then they have to demonstrate that they're within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand. Nothin personnel kid

Airliners are fun, planes in general are fun, but a large portion of the simming community fly nothing but airliners and have probably never done a circuit in their lives. I'm enjoying the C-17 because it scratches the IFR airliner itch I sometimes get but is more interesting. I love flying little planes by hand, but putting the plane on autopilot and just looking out the window is fun too.

UPDATE ON THE TORTELLI CON BURRO NOCCIOLA E SALVIA SITUATION

I did it, at last, with fresh salvia. Didn't find no tortelli so those fat ravioli filled with spinach and ricotta did the trick. I probably didn't let the butter cook for long enough but it did brown a little and got more flavourful. Salvia got slightly harder without crisp, its texture was pleasant and all in all the flavours mixed very well. Not sure how to mantecate but well, it was ok.

The bottom line is that it was quick and easy to do for a nice result, even if I probably fucked up compared to Italian standards, there may have been too much butter and not enough leaves. Will try again. And thanks again for the recipe.

To be honest trying a business jet might be a good way to get into them as they're often easier to manage. The old airliners have loads going on, especially if they have a flight engineer, the newer ones require getting used to interacting with the onboard computers, specifically the FMS which handles things like takeoff and approach speeds, your route, vertical navigation etc.

I was never sure if that was hard coded into the game or something a dev could get around, it would be hilarious if you just Shift+C'd and fell out, and yes I do try it in every plane. Surely having an eject animation would just be like having a new camera, and devs have already done that with missile cameras.

I had the same problems with FSLTL and its heavy textures aircraft. Now using AIG and don't see any problems. What injector are you using? Maybe it's the number of aircrafts spawning.

Yeah that was it, I just did a quick approach and it was fine, there's the usual MSFS stutter but nothing like what I had before.
>>583034852
I was just using AIG with default traffic, so had put the effects/modelbehaviour/oci folders in my Community folder. It was really eating into my RAM too, but I wasn't quite hitting the limit and I'd only get that choppiness at big airports. Maybe it's just a case of high quality liveries + a lot of traffic.

Try to pull 1% of your speed in Gs during the turn smoothly with zero throttle. If you're going 350, pull 3.5 Gs. It helps a lot with getting on speed on AOA quickly imho. BUt I might be talking out of my ass as I haven't done a boat landing in a good while.

I've been doing that but it feels 'wrong' somehow, like everyone else knows how to fly it manually but I'm playing bowling with the guards up and the big slide for the bowling ball.

Like trying to keep on-speed AOA manually, I've been using the approach ATC up to this point because I just can't seem to consistently fly AOA AND turn or descend I just keep oscillating up and down and up and down.

Oh I've been raging at this, alright, see webm related.
>>583374561
I do yeah, winwing orion 2. I feel like when I'm trying to make small adjustments it's constantly either not enough or too much. I've not put curves on it so far because I've been told you shouldn't have to do that. (though I've been learning the Hip and I only started being able to control it at all after I put curves on)
>>583374801
If you mean for on approach then I get how to do that, but trying to adjust AOA/pitch through throttle feels way too slow and I end up constantly overadjusting, or not adjusting enough.
>>
>>583375135
I've also got winwing orion 2. Try to hold it closer to the down of the base. You should have finer movements then.

>If you mean for on approach then I get how to do that, but trying to adjust AOA/pitch through throttle feels way too slow and I end up constantly overadjusting, or not adjusting enough.
I mean you need to trim all the time you're not changing your attitude.
But for approach related business, the throttle dance that never stabilize is a classic that I'm not out yet myself. From my understanding it comes from not knowing the landing circuit and the speed/RPM parameters you're supposed to keep at each point : when you're set on the 5% slope (or whatever the manual says) at the correct speed and correct AoA then you should glide down without having to touch the throttle very much.

Also keep in mind that throttle adjustments are tricky in a jet engine. The higher the RPM the fastest the spool time, so try to never go below 85% or something, using the airbrake is much easier and efficient (some planes have a minimum use altitude though). However, and despite that slow spooling, even small power changes translate to large slope variations, so be gentle, stop early, and always compensate by moving the throttle the opposite way after correcting to prevent speed buildup or loss.

Just my 2 cents, hope that helps, shit's not easy.

Basically this and learn to not overcorrect.
In case of the CASE I and aircraft carrier remember the burble effect which is simulated in DCS. It will decrease your lift. Be prepared. I don't know how hornet flies, because I only did case I in tomcat and A-4, but I think most of this shit is the same regardless. Don't overcorrect and be calm and practice

Hard to say. It is a very peaceful game where absolutely nothing happens when you sail between islands. There are occasional storms and big waves when you must do something but other than that it's just trading and sailing. Sailing is decent, simulation is very good.

How do you know if flight or space sims are really for you? I had a honeymoon phase getting back into space games with Star Citizen, then I played some Ace Combat, but now I’m questioning whether putting more money into flight gear is actually worth it.

Part of the problem is that flight and space sims feel like pretty small and limited genres. For serious flight sims, it’s basically X-Plane, MSFS 2024, DCS, and maybe Nuclear Option. For space, it’s mostly Elite Dangerous and Star Citizen. There are obviously other games, but the number of major titles where expensive flight gear really makes sense feels pretty limited.

Sim racing seems like a better investment because there are so many racing games out there, and the same wheel and pedals can work well across serious sims and more casual games. With flight gear, it feels like the game needs a fairly complex flight model before the hardware really becomes worth using.

You try them. DCS has free trials, most others are reasonable on sale.
You don't need hardware, you can play competitively with an Xbox controller or even on mouse and keyboard. Hardware is for enjoyment and immersion, it's not a requirement. Webcam headtracking is the only real QoL minimum.
There aren't a lot of titles, but there's a lot to learn. You can dump hundreds of hours into a DCS module and feel like you've barely scratched the surface in terms of what the airframe is capable of.
Some of the general skills transfer from props to jets to helicopters, but there's always more to learn and practice and you can put thousands of hours into mastering a type. The time and money sink can be equivalent to getting a real-life pilot license if it really hooks you.
If you get moderately excited at planning a cross-country flight with pen and paper, or think you'd enjoy drilling unguided munitions release patterns on a static range for a few hours after work on a weeknight, you might be autistic enough to spend $40 on a sim game

there is an entire flightsim peripheral industry which is trying to milk you for as much money as it can so you can enjoy home simulators
if you want to talk about 'investment' or 'value for money,' the answer is the minimum money you can spend to operate your chosen program, since anything more expensive will only offer diminishing returns
you might have to get creative to find solutions for less common inputs, if you're not willing to do that, then it's likely that your hobby isn't flight or space simulation, but spending money on flight and space simulation hardware. And you certainly wouldn't be alone in having that hobby.

This. I tried DCS on a whim two years ago, playing with a battered old Xbox gamepad, and had huge fun (mostly doing nav actually). I played for around one month using only trial licenses.
Then I "tried" MSFS2020, and when 2024 arrived I bought it. Andd then some hardware. And honestly I don't need other titles - even if I'm looking to come back to combat sims- it has comprehensive flight modeling and a whole simulated Earth on scale 1:1 down to individual houses to play with.

Ace Combat isn't a sim. You also don't benefit from good gear for Space Sims as it doesn't make that big a difference compared to flight sims, they're also not actual sims. As for actual flight sims there aren't that many modern games to pick from, but games like MSFS and DCS have infinite replayability and a huge third party scene means there's tonnes of content.

it's 15 meters long like the real one. the fuselage is slightly waisted where the wings connect, so it has a skinnier middle but the nose is .9 meter across as the real one and it's about 4 meters tall like the real one
i think the swept wings and lack of vertical tail wing make it look extra skinny. i could probably extend my canopy towards the nose more though, i had it further out earlier

The MB339 has a later variant with HUD, MFDs, aerial refueling etc (CD variant, the one for DCS is the A and PAN var.). Second pic is the M-346. I think the game is playable but a lot of graphical things seem to be missing like menus etc. Downloading the game took so damn long that I'm far beyond the 2 hour Steam refund window. With authoortho set the caching to a different drive than C: that you care less about or you'll have some serious wear and tear. It dropped my sdd health from 100% to 98% in a single year since it's a constant write/read thing. And the cache size limit is not respected, I had set it to 60GB and I found out it was 140, it crashed my recycle bin and I had to do some repairs via commands to actually delete that cache as even if the bin was empty the size still appeared in WinDirStat.

what type of driving sim has simply 'clutch goes in clutch goes out'? if one was using a wheel+pedals+shifter surely any reasonable game accurately model the clutch within reason? I don't know exactly but I'm assuming in beamng you would stall the car if you don't start correctly on a hill.
Anyway, I know it won't be 100% accurate to a real car, but seems to me that it would be worth a try to establish some muscle memory before driving for real

There are actually two engines : one puller at front that can beta and reverse, and one pusher that can feather.

Compared to other bush planes this one has an awesome cockpit visibility and is massively overpowered, with an usable speed range of 40-120kts.

RIP to Giorgio Brazzelli, one of the lead engineers and later CEO of companies like AW, Piaggio, Aermacchi, etc died 2 days ago. I'm a bit disappointed the Rafale did away with the trademark lines of Dassault's Mirage and went for that complex shape.

But that's right that under some angles, if you add some horizontal stabilizers it could look like a larger M-346.

>>
>>584393735
Simulation is freedom. Your progression comes from understanding the simulated systems and building skill at interacting with them over time. Your time isn't wasted by RNG, intentional frustration mechanics, or mouthbreathing public lobby morons. You aren't railroaded into a story, you're given a world and a set of keys to explore it. Nothing you learn is learned in isolation, and every skill and piece of knowledge you earn is iterative and accumulates over time.
Your grind is rewarded with functional improvement and an increased ability to interact with the world and its systems. Nobody can take your knowledge away from you. It feels more like learning a language than beating a level or winning a match.
The hardware is also expensive so it keeps the poors away.

>ground services now in EFB
>flight path fixes for GPS units

I can place my stick only on the desktop, and then of course have to lift my arm, bend my wrist and so on, and it feels like shit and after 15 minutes I start getting wrist pains. Doubly so because I still don't have rudder pedals.
