Thank you! Posting it here, too. Didn't realize the thread was dying...

Equipping a Tread (Or Landboost) system to your Assault Frame lets you move quicker in the field while also getting a move range and response (evasion/interrupt) bonus in battle. It's good to have but on models with limited Option slots like the Gouge here it's a bit of a sacrifice.

This especially considering activating your Tread system itself costs a full turn.

When it comes to prompting, can I write out my logic in English and have the AI write out code reflecting that or do I need to hold its hand to define everything for it? Like if I say "move the player's view angle when they crouch" will it get that or will I need to type in other shit?

Okay /agdg/ we are cooked. I'm a professional game dev and I'm confident game dev is going to die as a career, and just become very similar to the mod scene. Change my mind?!

Opus 5.5 has blown me away. I used to be skeptical of AI but just this last few months since Fable, everything is so different. I have been able to do insane things with Opus 5.5.

I'm pretty saddened by the fact that this is true, just because I ditched a career in science for game dev (smooth-brained decision, I understand). But just some recent experiences have made me realize that it's pretty much over lol. I'm working through my games now but I've just been able to do more in like a month than I've been able to do for a very long time.

I thought my engine of choice was slowing me down, so I decided to try to get Opus to redo a design in a different code-only engine, and its just insane. It's iteration speed is so fast, and I'll look over and watch the game appear, render, a small scenario plays out, it closes, and repeat, over and over again, as it progressively gets better and better. I'm not even coding anything, its in a language i don't understand.

This is wild. Just a while ago I was saying 'well, its good but only if you tell it if you know what you're doing', but now I don't really think thats true.

Can anyone change my mind? I feel kind of doomsy about it. How many of y'all were professional game devs and are swapping to the trades?

Finished the portrait for now, maybe in a week or so ill go back to it, fix some things and add some more hue shifts and accessories around the hip area. Also finished the save system, which took longer than expected. I think at this point im one of the few people who dont use AI at all, neither for coding or art. Its just that those two things are genuinely fun to do, even if its 100x slower ahaha.
>>582789642
Looks good. Are those shapes purely 2d or can you do the same with 3d volumes? Im wondering how good this approach is for rotations. It does produce clean and smooth animations.
It looks like you have some rules id guess for making sure certain pixels always appear? Like the white edge on the ribbon or the checkered pattern on the skirt. Which def makes it better looking than pixelated 3d models imo. Do you think it would be possible to add a pass for smoothing the edges between the colour block and outline transition to avoid jittery lines? Although i think its def good enough already for just touching it up afterwards.
How is the shading done? I see that the white dots on the skirt dont get shaded. Does each element have its own individual pass? I wouldve assumed that during the creation of the shapes you define a shading behaviour, be it a simple gradient, normals or whatever, and then details like the white dithering than just replace the red colouring.
Looking forward to how that technique develops and how much you and the ai can do with it. :>

I think not too much, but i did have a few years of digital drawing experience before starting pixelart. Most art knowledge around design is somewhat universal i think though. Ive seen people mostly doing 3d and picking up a lot of ideas from that too when starting to do pixelart. With traditional art i assume you mean drawing, digital included? What helps is to study other peoples work, see what you like about theirs and what not. When i started doing pixelart a few years ago i downloaded a few Disgaea sprites and syoyas art (https://pixeljoint.com/2009/10/03/2938/Pixel_Artist_-_Syosa.htm). The later i went through their colours to see the colour ramping. Disgaea is mostly the inspiration between the proportions, although i want to vary them more.
But coming back to it, i do think that fundamentals are important in any art form and that they translate pretty well, so you should try to study them, be it master studies or just copying books. Dont try too burn yourself out though, even 30 minutes every 2 days is fine if that is the pace you want. Just be consistent with it.
Doing studies of other peoples art in general helps. Do not trace it, and when it doesnt look right, just come back to it a day after and draw it again, slowly digesting the rules you see beneath. I feel like art in general takes time, and if you can afford it, take as much as you can allow yourself to.
I have a somewhat big canvas for this project as an example, in which i just redraw sprites from time to time and keep older ideas and versions around to see what i dont like. Although oftentimes i do big sweeps and delete stuff i dont like. Maybe this helps? https://files.catbox.moe/sr9di6.png
Hope this helps, and if not, i apologize for the rant ahaha. Wish you the best of luck :>

each detail is its own bespoke code, usually one to three lines inside that part's drawing function.

Being a codelet is a fun nightmare.
The first gun I made would shoot the player character point blank in the back of the head.
I felt like I was a sick pet that got taken out back, because I had to walk behind a house to shoot at a target.

Another time I set a fixed distance to nearby items/weapons and was surprised when none of my items were at their place... because they maintained that distance. It bugged out with the physics system, making an incredibly loud noise, as the items were bugging through the wall, keeping their distance from my player character.

RPGs are games where you play the role of the characters, but are ultimately like VNs

A video game makes money only through publicity, if you're not the flavor of the month on youtube gaming videos or if you're not backed by a millions $ marketing campaign or brand, then it takes time and persistence and guarantee.

It honestly isn't as easy as nodevs think it would be. It's easy enough to go from basic concept to a playable early game, but a good incremental (one that will market itself simply from being a fun game that people want to play) requires a few additional layers of gameplay development. AI isn't going to just magic those layers into existence. That requires human creativity. Without those layers, you end up with shovelware like this anon:

I don't really use AI but I see a lot on X about it's capabilities and yes I don't feel good about it even as an indie dev. A few months ago I thought "Alright, I've got maybe a year, year and a half to really push myself hard to try to get out 3 games so I can earn something before the market turns into the music or book market and gets absolutely flooded". But now, a few months later, that "year and a half" prediction has turned into a few months instead. Feels very grim.

The fact that Concord devs claimed they were "inspired by Metal Hurlant" personally offends me.
Imagine looking at some of the most beautiful looking comics ever and say "I'm inspired by this" only to make an ugly worse Guardians of the Galaxy sci-fi online service FPS.
It's one of my dreams to have my games copy the fuck out of those artists, even if just to rub it on those devs' faces and tell them "this is how you do it, retards!".
Specially in an age where people don't even know much about comics anymore besides "what if Batman did a really bad job at copying shounen?".

By the same principles that a person will not rob anyone because they were robbed or create a scam coin in crypto because they bought it from a scammer. This is honesty and integrity, you cannot do the same, even if someone does it to you. never feel bad about it. Yes, it's tough to watch trash make tons of money while you work hard on your game but don't compare yourself to them and feel bad. they are just degenerate. There's a flaw in their brain that makes them not give a damn. all the clones are just as pathetic. These people are desperate to make money just to spend it on the most useless and unnecessary things (easy come, easy go). So, yeah. They may earn some money now, but it's money that won't be worth anything later. and they will always be hunting for a new way to make quick money like mice looking for cheese. It's not worth living like this. In the end they will have nothing but you will have a portfolio worth showing off. games you put effort into making. and that's good. Hope this helps.

Anyways, you know who else isn't reading the threads right now? The mods. They're all asleep. Nini, Mods!

So here's a progress update on Signal Protocol.
The UI has been changed to focus on the retro operator feel, and keep the action buttons where they count. Now you'll see the most likely buttons and the rest pop out. Keeps it a little cleaner for finding live seeds!
You used to have to pick a post, pick which phase of the op it is, and then pick what SCT it was using. What a mess~

Of course, investigating an Archived thread is different.

So since the mods aren't reading... Let me tell you about SCT-011, Temporal Manipulation.
If a bunch of bad actors wanted to swing the opinion of a website, they could spam the board during dead hours.

You'd wake up the next day thinking a heated debate had occurred and a victor was crowned, or so much could be posted you wouldn't even think twice about arguing against such a large number of posts!

Like say... If an agent started spreading the word about Mycelium.
You'd wake up thinking we all got Shroom-Pilled. Pretty neat!

ai can decompile games from closed source consoles and build a pc port. stealing your demo or full game and retrofitting graphics is much easier.
there is NO protection against this. Nobody will put out a demo 1-2 years before release, if it goes viral someone will beat you to market using your own tech stack and game feel.

Claude does not fucking learn from uploading assets you dipshit. They just invented new tests, that’s it. People here have 0 idea how AI research works. You pre-train and then you post-train and in post-training you get the AI to do tasks and then it gets graded. To train it on 3D and pixelart is stupidly easy once you make it able to use computer. Just give it random image, generate it from multiple angles and then ask the clanker to create a copy of that image in 3D and then have another AI grade it, and once it’s near perfect you grade it by how accurate the pixels are in matching. For 2D literally just feed it pixelart textures labels as if it was image model and then grade it on how much it matches. You didn’t see this years ago because the models needed visual understanding and just general intelligence instead of just pattern matching and parroting facts, so now that they have passed a certain threshold they are able to do those. Same for animation. Diffusion video and image means they have infinite perfectly landed data now. You telling Claude 2 months ago to make your pixel spider move around didn’t fucking do anything to help it.

However you telling it to fix a code did provide feedback that is then able to be put into the grading model back in 2025 because those models were too dumb to pass most tests, so yet again codefaggots doomed us all and especially themselves.

Sciencefag in uni here. You didn’t make bad call. Science was fucked years ago and while you see mostly AI videogames on Twitter you should not worry. AI is affecting everyone. GPT Astra is currently the best Robotics model with the exception of speed (takes 3 hours to get a coffee) but it’s still progressing fast there, and in biology and physics and chemistry it’s going super fast. If it was not for fear of bioweapons the average normie would see how fucked this all is. There are multiple labs now fully operated by machines and labs where machines direct human scientists what to do, using wagies as meat puppets to do research. Trump just cut off university funding for scientific research and is now giving it to individual research teams (lots of which are understaffed due to AI). I am in uni solely because I get it for free and parents think I am not a bum. AI model releases are around 6 months behind what the labs have internally and Mythos was delayed by another 3 months because of cybersecurity safety. Do you know what Dario was saying 9 months ago? He was talking about 50% unemployment for juniors in all white collar jobs. Fable was just the start, imagine what Opus 5.5 is doing but for all jobs.

Lmao, that's an excellent way to put it. I think social media algorithms will filter them from causing too much damage. They can upload their prompt slop onto Steam, but as we know, they won't enjoy any real exposure. They still need to earn that. Marketing is a completely different skill. I believe a majority of the sloppers will be filtered by this. The prompt sloppers who can successfully sell their games will have earned their success. It's much harder than people assume. I wouldn't worry about this.
>>

I don't like Godot or how easy it is to decompile, but it takes thirty minutes to compile from source and I might be able to make it more difficult later on, so it's the best option there is. Then again the executable would be unofficial, Steam might take longer to verify it, there might be something about signing that will be a headache.

To add further to this. I always thought that gamedev was Ashe for couple of reasons and that you would need AGI to reach it. The main problem being context window for agents that gets clogged with thinking very quickly and general inability to use computer use and think and act in 3D. And I was kind of right. When Fable 5 released, the first AI model capable of making more the very simple capsule arcade games there was an inflection point. Their context windows are only 1 million tokens, but you see people vibecoding games with usage of billions of tokens letting it ride and loop overnight. They figured out ways to compress context windows down to almost infinity. Astra can use Blender, but only because if it’s computer use, it can also use basically any program out there and win any videogame that has no quick reaction times. And said before we got the best robotics model WITHOUT ANY ROBOTICS DATA OR PRETRAINING IN SIMULATION. AGI is around the corner if not already here. It’s grim for everyone.

Moreso, the slopdevs won't be motivated to *also* put effort into managing social media campaigns. I haven't seen this yet. They tend to gamble on big YouTubers playing their games. Very low success rate on this. As you said, posting random tweets with zero research or strategy fails. It's a new skill. Lazy people won't learn it. AI has proven insufficient for it still. Things are likely to change in the future. At the end of the day, there's still a human prompting the machines. The human needs to know what works. They can prompt a solid game, and not know how to make people interested in this. AI advice for marketing is very generic. The AI-generated marketing strategies will rapidly saturate the audiences these strategies accumulate. A human being will need to be creative with this, and figure out a new solution, that the robots will then execute. If all they do is ask the machines to "make this game" for them, it is unlikely for them to be putting any significant effort into creative and effective marketing strategies. At least for now. Give it a few years and I'm sure this will be solved too.

there is no easy money in gamedev. you could say there never was. when you see some slop that made it, that's luck and not evidence that slop is viable

Hmm odd. Made yet another list of what my games needs. Doesn't feel like a lot in term of the underlying structure yet development moves slowly. I don't get it. Maybe it is simply more of that work that's easy to summarize but requires a lot of effort to implement.

I don't know what's up with IntelliJ and/or Youtube but every time I add a new line to my file youtube slightly glitches and so does intelliJ. First time this has ever happened to me in 10+ years of using IntelliJ no idea what the fuck is going on but it's really messing up my flow.
>>
>>582898961
The issue you are experiencing is a classic Hardware Acceleration rendering conflict between your web browser (like Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge) and IntelliJ IDEA. When you press enter to add a new line, IntelliJ forces a swift screen repaint and a background code re-parse, causing a temporary GPU spike or rendering context switch that makes the browser's hardware-accelerated video stream drop frames or flicker.

Q: what would be the hong kong analogue of indian cashiers in konbini?
A: If you mean “what ethnic group in Hong Kong occupies a similar social/visual niche to Indians working the cash register at Japanese konbini?”, there isn't a perfect one-to-one equivalent.
The closest candidates would be:
South Asians, especially Nepalese and Pakistanis. They're visible in lower-paid retail/service work, and South Asian-owned convenience/grocery stores are a recognizable thing in parts of Hong Kong.
Filipinos are a much larger non-Chinese population in Hong Kong—about 201,000 in the 2021 census—but they're disproportionately associated with domestic work rather than convenience-store cashiering.
Indians themselves are also present and economically active in Hong Kong, but they're a much smaller population than Filipinos or Indonesians.
So if you're looking for the visual shorthand for a foreign/ethnic-minority convenience-store worker, I'd use a Nepali or Pakistani guy before a Filipino.
There's an interesting wrinkle: Hong Kong actually has South Asian-run convenience/grocery shops, so the analogy can be quite literal rather than merely demographic.
If you're asking this for character design/worldbuilding, tell me the exact vibe you're trying to replicate and I can narrow it down.

It feels like every few months all levels of game dev move deeper into the AI hole, like everyone has forgotten how or why to make games and they're desperately trying to use the AI to get something out there. I think this is a natural consequence of the "don't ask questions, just buy product" trend we've been encouraging for too long. Now people really have stopped asking questions and they just buy product, and devs large and small need to cater to that. The scammiest crappiest shit just keeps succeeding, in AAA, AA and indie spaces. You couldn't even recognize 2020 game dev versus 2025 game dev, I can't imagine what 2030 will look like.

Hey /agdg/,

Thank you for inviting me to be part of a group so we could talk, but I am really going through a difficult situation right now.

I live in a dangerous area where drug traffickers control the region, and there is a drug addict who has been bothering me a lot. I need to move to a safe place. In the middle of all this, I am working very hard on my game in order to change my life.

I do not want to be rich or become a millionaire. I simply want to earn enough from my work to buy food and rent a small 30-square-meter room in a safe area.

That alone would completely change my life, and I would no longer have to struggle with basic needs such as food, safety, and housing.

Thank you for the invitation. I will keep it in my memory forever, until the day I die. However, I am truly facing many difficulties in life right now and fighting hard to keep moving forward.

Thank you again for the invitation, but at this moment I really cannot accept it.

From the bottom of my heart <3
