Just pointing out that Shadow wasn't a uwu softboi with Maria either and got easily annoyed by her doing pointless stuff like screaming her name or running around when she's sick. The only thing is that he was willing to ask or attempt to learn about social skills, even if he didn't get it, and that died when she did because he learned the hard way that created things like him aren't seen as human, so trying to act human is pointless. He didn't actually mind spending time with her while he was complaining and moping, he lets her drag him around. If Shadow fell for a different character, theoretically, he still wouldn't hug back or be visually overjoyed. He falls more into the tsundere type of trope when he's in love, but he is normally NOT tsundere, that is the key. When he acts cold, he is almost always being cold.

Gerald implanted a vast amount of knowledge in him, but he didn't implant natural social instincts or the kind of interpersonal experience most people take for granted. Shadow's only references for social interaction were scientists who largely treated him as a project and a sheltered isolated girl who had her own limitations. The only other boy around his age was the young Commander who hated him and bullied him. There was no ordinary childhood environment, no peers, no gradual learning of boundaries or social cues, just an abrupt existence followed by a world that rejected him and denied him any real agency.So when people talk about Shadow "moving on", "being happy" or "recovering from grief" I keep coming back to the same question. Recover to what? They're assuming he once had a period of normal social adjustment and ordinary happiness to return to. He didn't, a character like Whisper did.

>>582930840Ironically neither one needs to be vaulted. They just need to be used. The complaints the series had about Sonic's annoying friends is absolutely how they treat Blaze and Silver. Silver needs to be there for higher stakes to prove he belongs and do some cool stuff with his ESP that only he can do. Blaze needs stories in her own dimension. Maybe a mini-series to start with a special every year or something. Ian's idea to combine the dimensions so she can be around all the time needs to be printed, rolled up, and used to beat him over the head.
