The same is true for Anders and he even adds in Smites since he's a paladin. Pommel+Smite, Attack+Smite, Attack+Smite is devastating at that point in the game.Seravok and some of the other late game bosses do impressive amounts of damage and have various mechanics like damage stages and transformations and what not, but at that stage of the game you also have a list of tools to use on them, and for example Raphael can still just slip on an ice surface and die.So at the end of the day, I would say that the early game bosses where the player party is only like 4-5 and the dice decide much of what happens are the difficult fights. Anders, Flind, Baretha, can all one round any character at that point, and there's not much you can do since you're also level 3-5.Honorable mention to Bernard as well, for the same reason. You'll likely encounter Bernard when you're 3-5 since he's in the underdark, and he has some pretty strong stuff he does.Also, Aylin and her Moon Slivers are on the list of hardest fights, which is funny because Bernard and the Moon Slivers are both entirely optional. Optional fights being harder than main story fights is usually good game design, so only people who want the challenge have to do it. The Moon Slivers are also a very rare enemy most players never meet, since it involves saving Aylin in act 2 but then betraying her in act 3, which is just not a common combination. Most people kill her in 2, or save her and continue to be friends.

Truly went on a rollercoaster ride when it came to choosing the race for my MC Sword Bard. First it was a no-brainer to go for a half elf (shield + darkvision) but then I settled on human (scrolls for darkvision) bc of the extra skill proficiency. But now I've pivoted to Githyanki for the Astral Knowledge (gotta pass all em dialogue skill checks) and live without a shield (until level 11) - Bracers of Defence will be my only friend. It's not like there are a lot of good gloves for ranged characters anyways, another ranged martial will be using the gloves of archery so they're not wasted.

Act 2 is rough in the beginning because literally every NPC tells you the same thing.
