Finally finished up the remake. Some random thoughts on it. >The new stuff they added (what little there was) felt like it had more effort put into it than the new stuff they added to FC. Still wish they tried harder and added a bit more but maybe it's a good thing they didn't and just kept it to the script.>Redone fight scenes were fantastic>Nightmare was an enormous pain in the ass in the first half of the game and for the first time in years I actually died on a lot of fights in years in a Trails game but once you understand the tools you're meant to use and once you get access to more broken shit it becomes a lot more manageable. Still felt Loewe was a bit too easy though.>Liber Ark looked amazing. I was worried it wouldn't translate well into 3d and I was initially a bit skeptical in the opening garden part but it really did look fantastic in places. Still my favorite ending dungeon in the whole series.But mostly it just reminded me of how much I loved SC the first time I played it. I've been very underwhelmed by this series recently and especially the latter parts of Cold Steel and most of Calvard have been immensely disappointing to me. I had started to wonder if maybe the whole series was just never that good to begin with. But no, FC and SC were fantastic games and I fell in love all over again.I really hope Falcom learn some valuable lessons with these remakes and come back strong with Kai 2 and they don't just go back to business as usual and the same old tired template shit. I just can't accept how thoughtless and uninspired the games have become anymore and these remakes have raised the bar for this series again. my biggest issue is probably the speculars/materials starting with CS3. for some reason they gave everything that shiny cheap chiense toy plastic look. its gotten better in the recent games but some of Calvard still looks awful. Personally my problem with the tech level jumps is less the tech itself and more that there doesn't seem to be an effort to still make it look fantastical/not of our world. I want to say CS3 and on stuff starts looking more and more like shit I can see by just looking outside. There were robots and shit in the older games like Sky FC's last boss but they looked fairly alien compared to everything else.
