Am I correct with these assumptions about Online?>Fighters do more damage to airborne enemies, but hit ground targets with the force of wet tissue paper. Generally have good to great speed and mobility.>Inversely, Attackers do more damage to ground targets but suck against aircraft. Speed sucks unless you pick the Strike Eagle or Su-34. Mobility always sucks for Attackers.>Multiroles and EW are average against everything, but will likely become good against everything with enough levels and parts, especially since they don't get the speed/mobility debuff that Attackers get.

>>583360937I just want it to get an official successor, remake or thematic followup that keeps the immaculate vibe of the original intact and gives me more crazy cyberpunk planes to play with using the modern AC graphical fidelity and controls. Phrased it badly, sorry about that.
>>583361061ECM+TLS Morgan. There's literally no counterplay to it as you will out-turn LAAM Jets and they won't be able to get guns/missiles on you. It is literally the most cancerous playstyle at the moment.Bonus points if you have a second morgan with MPBM/ECM to set up guaranteed furball kills. Not honorable in the slightest, but easily the most broken.Alternatively, LAAMs do jack shit up close so just keep your eyes on the radar and dodge them, it's not that hard.

>>583361878>>583362005Funnily enough, LAAM spam was the meta in 7's MP too if you stripped away the scifi magic weapons like EML and PLSL. PA still can't balance for shit.

>Constantly get the sweatiest, most unhinged, anti-fun people possible in Assault>Finally get a boss fight>This
>>583362221True, but QAAM spam was easy to filter out with better parts and speed/energy management. Plus the smarter players figured out you could hug the terrain to lose the missiles (I was not one of those smarter players). Still, 7's EML was straight up cancer and never should've made it beyond playtesting.
>>583362620I get people failing the Chandelier fight, since its an Ace Combat 6 exclusive, but how do you fail the Alicorn?
>>583362407All of the Euro planes have great loadouts, Mirage, Gripen and Rafale can easily carry a playthrough and the Su-57 mogs both Americans
>>5833627246 of them were in Fighters. The LAAM spam meta has broken peoples brains
>>583362520It's a higher "tier" of craft than the Mirage. Unlocked later and costs more. But yes, the Mirage is better because it has better SPWs, UGBs too stronk.
>>583362520SASM was a pretty gay SPW in 7 too, to be fair.>stacks points just by vaguely lobbing missiles at you>doesn't even do meaningful damage, it just shits out points because ?????
>>583362724Personally the Alicorn was the only boss I had never fought despite playing every game because I never bought the dlc
>You can unlock a "Yo, buddy" nickname, but you need to fly the Morgan 50 times

>>583362407Rafale gets a very strong a2g option with LACM and the best a2a option with LAAM.
Are Project Aces based enough to put cute Aermorph decals in the shop?
>>583362520>>583363102SASMs are hard countered by running the armour boosting part, turns them into scratch damage that barely scores points. Plus I found that most SASM and QAAM players relied on the missiles to do the work and couldn't manuever for shit. It made complete sense why we banned QAAM and SASM from Shootouts, but against randoms I could tolerate them. EML can still get fucked, however, absolute horseshit weapon with zero counterplay.>>583362841See, this is why I want a good multirole. My F-14A was good for most missions, but absolutely sucked against Alicorn due to the Fighter damage debuff against ground targets. Although I was retarded and forgot that I had a F-4E with UGB in reserve as well.
idk much about this dision fella but i'm following him to general resource
Whats the point of XSDB? They seem like just another flavor of AGM but with some splash damage, which is nice but you are still at multi-lock targeting mercy.
>>583363234>zero counterplay.Stealth LAAM sniping. Which brings us right back to nobody getting to have any fun.
who is exactly is the princess in the space elevator? is it still ace 7 cossette or one of her sisters?
>>583362724>>583362620People are also just really REALLY bad at focusing TGTs in MP. If they can't destroy it in a couple passes they just give up and fuck off to softer targets. It's infuriating.
>>583363192Fucking European bias I swear to god...They took the LAAM from the Su-35 and replaced it with HCAA and then to top it off replaced its LASM with LAGM. Meanwhile the Rafale gets a stat boost and keeps LAAM/LACM.
>>583363319AFAIK XSDB being a bomb means it does significantly more damage to ground targets. AGMs are kinda shit to be honest.
Stop giving me tutorials! I'm playing the second time on the ace difficulty I know how to play the game already!
>>583362914The Mirage has better A2G but much worse A2A options. I think that's pretty fair.

>>583363812AGMs absolutely do not one-shot anything that isn't basic AA, SAMs, trucks etc. The moment you start getting into more fortified structures, ships etc. XSDBs beat it.
What's the point of LASMs if LACMs oneshot ships anyway? Can CIWS shoot down LACMs because I don't think I've seen that happening once during my first playthrough
>>583363234Newfag here, what kinda maneuver is there in this game other than cobra and turning really hard
>>583363954>What's the point of LASMs if LACMs oneshot ships anywayIdk, capacity? LACM is just better in every other way, yes.
>Finally unlock LASMs >Do slightly too little damage to oneshot a destroyer>Reload is so slow its impossible to use all of them in a match>No parts to increase damage or decrease reload
>>583363449True, but I'd argue you can thereotically use flares against LAAMs (assuming lag doesn't fuck you over). If the EML pilot can aim your only hope is to terrain mask, but that just neutralises you as a threat as well and lets back to the same problem.>>583363629I thought the Su-35S gets HVAA over LAAM? But yeah, LASM to LAGM and the stat nerf from getting reclassified as a Multirole stings. I think the Su-33 may be a better Flanker choice with RKT as the A2G option that also works against big flyers like the Podarges and Arsenal Bird.
>>583363234Running armor boosting parts is a very specific counterplay and even then it was only effective if the SASM user exclusively focused you or the people you matched up with all telepathically decided to counter-play the SASM user before the match starts. The name of the SASM game was ultimately to farm points, and there's always at least one goober in the lobby to farm off of because he didn't run armor. The variety in how well randoms can use them really does extend to the entire spectrum of SPWs.
GPB is the best anti ship weapon
>>583364038time to git gud
>>583363629Seriously, the only Euro plane that kinda got screwed is the Typhoon (my beloved). 8AGMs still lock stack and only give you 4 full volleys worth of ammo (or 2 if combined with another SPW), and it's swapped out HCAAs for 4AAMs.At least it still has LAAMs so it's still usable in the current meta.
The supertomcat is busted

I hope the YF-23 isn't shit.>inb4 it reprises its role as an insufferable stealth LAAM boat
>>583364470First skill it unlocks gives LAAM range increase tho
>>583364251I'm astounded that they didn't fix the lock stacking. It was already baffling that it made it to 7 without someone noticing that it FUCKING SUCKED and changing it during development, but for it to stick around for another game? What's wrong with these devs?
>>583363836Look forward to the Su-37 being a P2W option in an upcoming Ace Pass.>>583363954I think LASM gets a damage buff against naval targets, but that's only a factor in Online where enemies have more health and aircraft classes influence damage output. For campaign, LACM is the dominant A2G weapon.>>583364128True. To be honest I ran the armor boost all the time, mainly to avoid getting oneshot by EML until I noticed that it also helped against SASM. I know enough to know I can't avoid every single hit, and sometimes it's worth taking a hit if that aggression lands a kill.>>583364859PA can't balance for shit. Remember it took over a decade (from 6's MP to Infinity to early 7 MP) for them to nerf QAAM.
>>583364251Yep. The best way to go through the aircraft tree on a first run is basically Mirage - > Gripen -> Rafale. The only reason to unlock other planes is if they block access to parts you want, like you should buy the Mig-21 early so you can buy the UGB capacity part. >>583364097Yeah, it's HVAA, which is actually better, but still. LAAM > HVAA so that's a nerf and while LASM isn't as good as LACM it's still way better than LAGM.> I think the Su-33 may be a better Flanker choice with RKT as the A2G option that also works against big flyers like the Podarges and Arsenal Bird.RKT is not great. It's fine for cheesing big air targets(and the Ladens from M15) but for actual ground attack it's meh compared to UGBs. At least the Fullback gets UGBLs which are actually pretty good but its other A2G SPW are fucking 4AGMs which do not work with UGBLs at all.
what's with people altf4 ing from F4s, it's actually pretty good when maxed
>>583365096Nah, they'll put a base SU-37 in you can buy with zoll then sell you Yellow 13's SU-37
total noob at AC here playing for the first time, i'm on like mission 4in AC8, i get a missile lock on an enemy and it seems completely random whether or not they can juke it, what obvious thing am I missing?
>>583364859My guess is that they want it to feel different to 4AGMs but in practice there's no scenario where lock stacking is even remotely useful
>>583364801I hope it does, I'm loving the F-14D and MiG-31
>>583365172It'd be nice if you could see other people's plane levels in the lobby. Sometimes you can tell they're high level from the special weapon but sometimes you can't.
>>583362724I have the opposite issue, Chandelier dies way too fast.
>>583355997
>>583365373>i get a missile lock on an enemy and it seems completely random whether or not they can juke itwateasiest way is just shoot a missile when they are flying straight when you are chasing them. if that doesnt work shoot at closer range
Done several sorties so far. Not a single completion. Such bullshit.
>>583364801It had HVAAs in 7 and couldn't PSM, the FB-22 was the real insufferable "fuck everybody's fun" pick with LAAMs and full PSM capability.
>>583365505I just mean that I acquire missile lock. sometimes I score a kill, sometimes it misses, is that just expected behavior?
>>583365475>fully unlocked barricaderwhat the fuck
>>583365526Normies can't do Alicorn or Chandelier, they never go down the barrel
>>583365526the shitters will stop playing after a while so take a break first
>>583365475I think you might have slightly better planes than most people here.
>>583365373ace combat is all about positioning. generally you want to be in a position right behind (or in front also works) the target for a guaranteed kill. if the target you're chasing is flying perpendicular to you it doesn't take a genius to figure out that the missiles you fire will not hit. As you get more experienced you will be able to predict when missiles will connect and when they won't
>>583365373Some named enemies can pull out bullshit moves and dodge most things you throw at them but for regular enemy planes just wait until they finish turning or you are close to them. Basically just observe how an enemy moves. Sometimes they will still evade if they have enough distance and start another maneuver but often you will score a kill. Also clouds impact missile lock and tracking
>>583352302>Probably in her mid to late fifties>Looks BETTER than she did in her twenties
does the battlepass progress by just normal gameplay?i don't have to just focus on gay challenges and can just enjoy the game?
>>583365172Some players think it's shit by default because its the starter plane, not realising levels on an aircraft matter more than its tier or Lv1 stats.>>583365450In theory, if you purchase the level unlocks immediately, you could have double SpW on a Lv1 plane, but that would require grinding money and blueprints on a different plane beforehand. You don't need to hit the level cap before unlocking levels.
>>583365635You acquire lock when your target is in range regardless of what they're doing or what their relative heading is. Whether you can hit them depends on their heading and manoeuvres. If you're firing from off-angles your missile will just whiff. For a start, look at the SHOOT indicator, if that shows up you're in a decent spot to hit your target(but it's by no means guaranteed, you'll pick it up naturally as you play more).
>>583365635its not random anon. the missile still follows a path and it doesnt turn 90 degrees. just shoot then when the planes are not turning. you will get used to it
>>583365726So the lock is not absolute. I guess I thought you couldn't really dodge missiles anymore with modern planes so once I had a lock they were dead to rights
>>583365635Missile lock isn't a certain kill. The missile is worse at moving than the plane it's chasing (unless it's a semi active radar). You're expected to rock up behind the enemy in the cleanest possible straight like at a close enough distance where they can't evade it. There's a reason why your wingmen constantly warn you of enemies on your 6.
>>583365526This is why I like scramble. It's simple enough that a single person can carry it if needed.I do like the general purpose blueprints from raids though.

>>583365823>I guess I thought you couldn't really dodge missiles anymore with modern planesyou get special weapons and upgrade that do almost exactly like that
>>583365649It's kinda good, but the Mig 31 is still far more reliable than it when it comes to Air to Air engagements, the LAAM range and one shot potential from it's special abilities is just too strong.>>583365717Anyone with a EA-6B Prowler and SU-25 can nuke the chandelier without any issues. in fact, I was way behind in score compared to one of our SU-25s until I got the lucky kill credit from the core (12K pts)Seriously if you're having issues with raids, run an ESM plane, it makes a world of difference when you're buffing 8 people, reloads are thrice as fast on all of your weapons, including SP.W, you get 25% more lock on range, and I think it also does more damage>>583365773Yes, but challenges speed it up considerably. You're definitely not dodging missiles with just a little jink like you do in Ace Combat. But that's really part of the fun, with these missiles you get to actually dogfight and outmanoeuvre other planes instead of just launching instant deathrockets at small green dots(But if you want to do that just play online PvP lmao).

>>583369081I never noticed it in AC7 when I cleared Ace 4 times because my deployments kept fucking my steam cloud sync and wiped my progress repeatedly. Why does it feel so much more blatant in AC8?
The game is so cool, but I hate it when the boss fight is just the fucking AI cheating with infinite flares, impossible acceleration and impossible turn radius. Ruins what's supposed to be a great fight on equal footing between huge characters.
>>583369202
>>583369346Were you spamming like PLSL or something in AC7?

>>583370139I really don't get what you want. You can gimp yourself and still beat that mission on Ace. But obviously the fight won't feel "fair" if you're intentionally using lower tier aircraft.Isn't that the entire point of gimping yourself, making it so you can win even in lesser craft?
So what's the best multirole in Online right now? I'm guessing 18E or Rafale.
>>583370597Rafale. LACM with upgrade parts might as well be an ASMP/A and it gets LAAM as well.

Does Shadow 22 have more dialogue if I leave him for the last? I autistically chased the first TGT and it happened to be him, and the last one just kept repeating generic lines like missile or lock-on or such. >>583369942AC:I ran on pure, unadulterated, copium

>>583352006Rex, Coster called dibs
>>583362306are we already at the point where the missile is more expensive than the plane it's bolted on?
>>583363187They probably can do 400km in absolutely optimal conditions, that's typically how missile range in measured in non-classified documents (It's a figure called Rmax). So, a large aircraft travelling towards the launch vehicle at high altitude, that doesn't notice the launch, that makes no attempt to maneuver, has no EW protection or countermeasures etc. Against a fighter sized aircraft that actively attempts to defeat the missile? Cut the range in half at the absolute least, more reasonably two thirds. It's not really a lie per se, but people who treat these BVRAAMS as able to bullseye a fighter from 400km is huffing copium. The stated goal of a lot of these very long range missiles is defeating AWACS planes and aerial tankers.
>>583371102I haven't gotten back to it yet but I believe 28's formation changes if you take out 24 in an earlier mission?
>>583371202I don't know for sure, but I have a feeling if you say No to Baxters request to spare the Shark pilots they probably won't turn up in mission 28

Okay i started playing AC:8, and outside of random stutters, i'm enjoying myself. Got to mission 9 i think ? When you have to stop the landship by destroying buildings.Whats the level of kino thats waiting in the next missions ?
>>583371386Differences in what’s included in export packages make it difficult to compare exactly, but the price of a plane these days is generally something like $100 million minimum. The sixth generations are probably going to be around the $300 million mark. The very long range missiles aren’t exactly cheap but they also aren’t anywhere near that cost bracket
So anyone try AC8 without a SSD? Presuming it won't run as it's the only reason I didn't bother with pre-order
>>583372120I think a Meteor is around 2 million eurobucks. AMRAAM-120 is a bit over 1 million for the newer variants. It's still nowhere near the cost of even a 4th gen+++++++ jet, let alone 5th or 6th gens.
>>583372271I saw a thread on the steam forum of at least one person mentioning the game ran fine on HDD, but I doubt it.
>mission 26>Shadows chant sung by a womanThat was honestly kinda hot.
hello, relatively new/casual ace combat fan here, i missed the winder for the preorder so im bummed i dont get AC0, but im wondering if AC8 is worth it in terms of bosses and superweapons. the only things i know are the land battleships, the su57 squadron, and maybe the final boss(?) aircraft. im a big sucker for enemy squadrons and experimental/prototype stuff
>>583372569We only got two experimental planes
>>583372015There's a bit of a dip around the middle but you've got some proper kino ahead of you still.
Online is going swimmingly
>>5833727123 since the model for the "Su-57" is actually based on the T-50-6.
>>583371587Let me guess, people used F-14's and MiG's with LAAMs.
I can definitely recommend the F-2A after maxing that bitch out.Fast enough to extract itself from any trouble it runs into and the UGB/LASM covers pretty much any target on most maps.
>>583372120>>583372382Interesting, I guess the cost is mainly on the jet engines? Since both have radar, datalink, complex software, etc... I guess there's also the difference in size, a Typhoon likely has a much bigger radar than the Meteor it's firing
>>583372382The very long range ones cost a good bit more, being much larger missiles, but yeah for the medium ones like AMRAAM you’d really need to be carrying an ace combat warload for the cost to be anywhere near equivalent. SM-6 is something like $9-10 million though from what I’m seeing online, and while AIM-424 doesn’t have much information disclosed I’d imagine that’s not any cheaper, so that would certainly run up a big tab if you’re flinging those around constantly
POST PLANES
>>583372569AC8 might have the most superweapons out of all of the games. It doesn't have many enemy ace squadrons like AC0, but instead one larger elite force that shows periodically like 4's Yellows or 6's Strigons
>>583373104But you get a lot more variety even though they're all the same "squadron". Yellows are always in Su-37s and Strigons in Su-30s, the Shadows use all kinds of different jets which makes each encounter feel more unique and more like Zero's Ace squadrons.
<<See it's a terrible strategy isn't it?>>> NOhttps://youtu.be/gBU-BV-g-fA
>>583373035>SM-6 is something like $9-10 million Damn, seriously? That's almost as expensive as the ASMP-A. And that's got around 500kms of range.Could we just slap on some basic radar on that thing and use it as a long range air intercept option?
Honestly the OST is growing on me but whatever plays during the 1000 planes mission was my least favorite by far
>>583372992Engines are pretty expensive, as are the various electronic systems like radar, irst, das or similar systems, any potential onboard jammers, and the airframe itself can be quite expensive especially on stealth aircraft and that scales with size. Building in margin for an aircraft to survive a decades long career also adds a lot of expense, whereas while a missile might go up on a plane repeatedly it will only ever be fired once.
>>583373549If we figured out reusable rockets why can't we do the same for missiles?

>>583373628You're joking, but I wonder if they've ever tried multi-stage missiles? Not counting ICBMs of course.
>>583373784A missile is just a small rocket, isn't it? Why wouldn't it work?
>>583373628>>583373879>>583373870putting a decoupler (more explosives) on a thing meant to explode is generally a bad combothe answer is fuel and weight
>>583373436A lot of the issue there was fairly low production lots driving cost up. We can reasonably expect cost per unit to come down significantly since a massive $24.4 billion contract was just signed for SM-6 alone. It will still be pretty pricey, since they shoved anti air, anti surface, and ballistic missile defense capabilities into one missile, but if they got it down into the $5-6 million range I wouldn’t be shocked.
>>583373312>yfw << THEY WE'RE SUPPOSED TO BE RUNNING AWAY >>
>>583373879
>>583373879In case this is real, it's because the missile by design is destroyed so there's nothing to recover. Even if they did somehow survive the explosion, they'd fall over active warzones which means you aren't getting them back anytime soon and you could even be feeding your enemy free "reusable missiles". Also any combat over water would make them unrecoverable since nobody is financing a deep-sea trawling expedition to recover one or two "spent missiles". They leave whole planes down there whenever they go for a dip off the carrier.
>>583373696Project Aces saw showdown and decided to escalate even further
>He cleans his planes
>>583373870Boeing has a concept for a two stage air-to-air missile, I think it's for the LREW program. Also many surface launched missiles are two-stage. The previously mentioned SM-6 has an SRB lower stage for initial ascent. There was also a concept for a two-stage ground launcher version of Meteor, I'll see if I can find the image now.
>>583374072>mfw
>Know the Online is complete dogshit>Keep coming back to it>tfw traded out War Thunder for thisMaybe I should check out Nuclear Option...
>>583374137>>583374005Well, a reusable rocket just flies back to its launch point, right? So a reusable missile would explode if it hits the target but if it misses or loses radar lock it just flies back to the launching plane and reattaches itself to the rail. Then if it's got fuel left it can be fired again(with reduced range) or refuelled once the plane lands.

>>583374508That's kinda my point. Just feels like a pointless change
>>583374508I mean if you think about it a plane is just a really big reusable missiles. And we've already figured out unmanned flight.Even if it needs assistance from a remote operator there's no reason this shouldn't work.
>>583374347Fuel is heavy and expensive. Modern day missiles are designed to use as little fuel as possible, they run out of fuel before even hitting the target. The final stages of the flight are underpowered. Adding more fuel for it to sometimes RTB is wasteful. At that point it's basically an UAV. And I doubt having a missile flying back towards the plane that launched it like a lost puppy is ever a good idea
is it really 1000 planes?
>>583374590>>583374347You have a fundamental misunderstanding of how SpaceX or reusable rockets work which make me have to assume you have an IQ of 50. They DO NOT fly back to their launch point, they fly to preplanned landing sites. It's physically impossible to carry enough fuel for it to reattach to a pylon because they often use solid fuels.

I came to a conclusion that AC8 is a game that pretty consistently sits in the "lows" territory but has really high highs. It's not bad but it is pretty mid tbdesu.
Now I've beat this game I'm struggling to understand what about it made every reviewer cream their pants over it in a way that AC7 specifically did not, they're the same game, both really good but AC8 isn't some 'breakout' success, there's nothing here that feels like 'they finally clicked the formula' since they nailed the series formula in the first game and everything since has been a refining of that

8 was pure kino and 20 - 29 was probably the best stretch of missions in the series. That said, I don't really know what they tried to do with the ending. It's like they tried to recreate 5, but unlike in 5, nobody actually manipulated Sotoa into doing an invasion, so sotoans cheering for Wings kind of comes out of nowhere. The extent of Enso's involvement seems to have been just giving Sotoa a bunch of free shit.Maybe if it had been established that Sotoa's civilians weren't actually in favor of the war it would have made more sense, but as is it kind of just looks like they got off with a slap on the wrist.
>>583389182So far I'm kinda on the fence with slots separated by category versus having one slot limit. Like the Phantom only has two body slots and in campaign at least you can't improve it's stats with leveling. >>583404691Sotoa-Yuktobania would be fun. People have been comparing 7 to 4 and 8 to 5, so 9 embodying Zero could be cool. The idea of the Belkan War was conceived in 5 and explored in Zero, so there's precedent for them teeing up a prequel like that. Toss in an early Enso or Enso-precursor selling arms to Sotoa and that deal barely keeping them alive and not conquered by the Yukes and they can explore the slow rise of mega corporations.

>>583405062I did like blue sky home. Times are changing i could agree, but it gave a bit of characterization to what's usually faceless friendlies.I don't like permanent bombastic music, as it just numbs me, so having a bit of a mix as well as some genre to mix it up at times was something i enjoyed. The progression of the single guitar on the shadows setpieces also was something i enjoyed, from the chaotic piece on frostwave to the well organized, intensifying one on moonlight and shadows. There was some characterization in the music i feel, some evolution, and while some pieces did just fade in the background while i played, some just stuck with me.
