Rowling clearly didn't plan that ahead, and it shows. But would have some moments interspersed of them acknowledging / respecting each other as people, and something akin to "maybe in a different world, we could have been friends" type of rivalry.The middle of the series, when they get into teenage years, you get the classic hormonal teenagers recognizing their "objective" attractiveness and they really start enjoying trading banter without even really realizing either of them are actually enjoying it. People kind of tease them now. You probably get some contrivances a bit of them having to work together at school or random things that kind of amp up that they really do enjoy each other's company even while sniping at each other.Then it really picks up as the danger ramps to Harry and the group. Could go in a bunch of directions after that, in terms of pacing of the relationship, and conflicts (family feuds, loyalty, reputation, etc).The main thing really is that it kind of fixes the really big criticism of the books as a YA thing, that the romance isn't even bad, most of them are pretty bad, it's that it's just really boring. The books romance is just really boring and disconnected from the plot. This would be much more naturally and intricately involved.
