Excellent edition. I'll just post this disclaimer each day to help dissuade and educate shitposters.>not a crpg!VTMB2 is a CRPG under the test that it tries to recreate pen-and-paper role-playing. Tabletop Vampire is about personal and political horror, not just fighting. Bloodlines 2 captures that. You choose a clan and powers, shape your past through dialogue, and decide what to reveal and whom to trust. Characters judge your words through your past behaviors. The same answer can earn trust or cause offence. That may in fact capture a social Vampire session better than the original in some ways: reading people, managing trust and seeing past choices shape later events. These are not just scenes you watch. They are problems you solve through role-playing. Copying more stats is not the same as recreating more role-playing. The test is whether it tries to recreate tabletop play, not whether it copies every rule. I consider it a CRPG, and anyone who thinks about it with an apt mind will come to the same conclusion. If you disagree, that's fine, I invite you to simply post about something else and anons will engage with you if they find it interesting. Posting my VTMB2 playthrough does not prevent you from talking about Warhammer again. No further address will be given to you people, I am playing and posting the CRPG Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2, and the only thing you can do about this is nothing. The choice to act normal or throw a fit is yours, and yours alone. With that out of the way, let's resume.

>>583411414We need a CHADgon CHAD CRPG
Last time on season 1 of True CRPG: VTMB2 we had been set on the trail of a certain Nosferatu by Tolly, himself a Nosferatu and performatively gay. By the time we found Willelm, he had been equipped with a refugee style vest, and the explosion knocked us into a brief torpor and made the news. "Lucky" that Tolly was there to drag us back to court, where we found ourselves the following night. We'll be needing to check in on Tolly - this isn't the first time he's led us into disaster. Of course, one of the ways we initially found Willem was through our mutual friend, Safia. Safia had asked us to look out for him, obviously feeling sorry for the guy, and instead our visit resulted in his final death. In-character, the sensible thing to do is start with Safia. We've grown quite friendly with her of course, but also she's our clan mate, and a helpful resource for investigating what is likely a Thaumaturgical ritual binding us. She's also just down the hall.Out-of-character, I know some things get lost in the shuffle if I don't check in on Katsumi first, but that's okay, RP should always take priority in a CRPG, otherwise just play Madden.

On the bright side, her research has turned up some leads on the nature of my binding. Some older works describe a process with some striking similarities. Unfortunately they also deal with gehenna, Caine, the antediluvians, and so are even harder to find than the usual books of Masquerade violations.

Fortunately, Safia happens to know where one such book might be found, in the possession of Lou Graham. Lou isn't very polite to Safia, and wouldn't even contemplate releasing them to her - but Lou owes me a favor, and I've worked to ingratiate myself to her rather than telling her to deal with her Gangrel problem on her own. In-character I contemplate simply ridding ourselves of Lou - I'm not entirely convinced she isn't related to my own problems, and she's been more than a little hostile to my clan and now Safia directly. When we first met she even implied she stinks, and outright said I do. Now apparently being in possession of Thaumaturgical material is a pretty serious problem, or at least it was in my time. But for now, Safia just wants us to try and retrieve the tome, no reason to deal with Lou just yet. Still, I make a mental note to have a chat with Miss Thorne and Safia about not letting big breasted Ventrue women have access to Thaumaturgy tomes later. We need the courts to need us, now more than ever, open sourcing our secrets won't do.

On the walk over to Lou's hotel I am once again struck by the simple beauty of colorful lights on the wet snow, a Christmas jingle playing gently off in the distance from some storefront. When I think of what truly made VTMB special, for me it was storytelling and atmosphere above all. It certainly wasn't an all-timer because of the melee combat. Opinions differ obviously, and I think that's mostly because of a change in online gaming culture, but there are moments in this game where they really do nail atmosphere and storytelling. It's sad how many people here deprive themselves of enjoyment because some meme told them to. One looks at these threads and one gets the sense that many of you don't have much going on beyond playing these games - no romance, no business. To live that way and yet still to not experience and enjoy what you can in the medium just seems like such a tragic waste, like choosing to suffer. I hope at least some of you snap out of it someday, before it's too late.

Lou's security is standing around idle as usual, with a smug look on her face and a quippy line about my warehouse explosion incident. I'm sure she was thinking of that one until sun up last night. I politely tell her to mind her business. In-character, I wonder if I'll need to deal with her too if and when I eventually come after Lou. So far she doesn't seem like much of a security guard, I'm able to go past to Lou unchallenged more oft than not, and I doubt she can take me seeing as how I had to clean up some errant Brujah for her just a few nights ago. Still, it's probably better to not boil her alive in the middle of the lobby. I doubt Lou feeds her and I doubt Lou lets her sleep with her, so she must come and go to feed if nothing else. Maybe one night soon I'll catch her in an alley.
How do I improve the AC of Ember and Nenio? Too often enemies just ignore my frontline and charge at them and 1 shot them.

Lou's haven always changes in subtle ways night to night, maybe a little too subtle since I didn't know until someone pointed it out to me. But you get the since that she's stir-crazy, restricted to her haven (self imposed?) for so many years now. Chairs and tables moved around, covered and uncovered and covered again. I also really enjoy the developing contrast between her space in modern nights vs her heyday, once this bustling center of Court intrigue, now this silent and slightly spooky space.

The order in which you ask things (or if you ask them) can alter the response to different dialogue options, which is something I really enjoy and something that more CRPGs should borrow from. The only other instance I can think of is The Witcher 3, and even then its only a single conversation with Yennefer. Ignoring the meta-optimal order, in character I think Phyre is tactful enough to know she can't just roll up and demand payment, or be sheepish about the request either. The best option is to probe a little, a subtle reminder of prior services rendered, and then the quid pro quo. I helped feed you and I haven't let slip about your strange episodes, meanwhile you have a book my clan really doesn't appreciate you having and that I need now.Of course, Lou isn't a neonate either, and this sort of thing is more her realm than mine, so maybe it will backfire.
Lou apparently enjoys preying on young boys.
>>583414927>The order in which you ask things (or if you ask them) can alter the response to different dialogue options, which is something I really enjoy and something that more CRPGs should borrow from.A little foreplay in dialogue, if you will
>>583414309The solution is to not bring children to the frontline
Lou does see through me unfortunately, immediately sussing out my intentions and involvement with Safia too. From here you can play it a number of different ways, and part of me wonders if it wouldn't be more in-character to strong arm her a little. Onda is far away, we're all alone, bound or not I'm pretty strong, probably a lot stronger than she is. Obviously something like that might cause a big problem with the court though, title or not Lou is de facto Prince of Seattle, and the sheriff can't easily throw her out a window just yet. We'll have to bow and scrape a little, for now.
>>583415458Nenio isn't a kid
I sloppa'd this portrait for my cav of the paw lord of nothing playthrough so I figured I'd share it here.
>>583415185I'd like to prey on these puppies of you catch my drift
If nothing else, Lou is most interested in Lou. You obviously sought this material for some reason, probably help with your own problem, and to no avail. Who knows, maybe the material in a more practiced hand might be just what you need?
>>583415818>hairy feet midget why

>>583416198I know what a halfling is, im asking why would you pick that
>>583416072because that's how halflings areyes they're disgusting
The ploy works, and Lou reveals that the material is kept in a private cache hidden in a crypt beneath the St. Stephen's church. She also intimated that I am in her employ, not the Prince's, and so she wants to keep me happy - the implication being that I'll be doing her a service in turn. Unfortunately we've spoken with her long enough that she breaks into one of her episodes, what she believes to be the Beckoning, before we can correct her.
>>583415818OPEN YOUR EYES BITCH THE ALES OVERFLOWING
On our way to the church then. And Fabien's right, Lou goes to great lengths to conceal exactly why she doesn't leave the haven anymore. Seeing her weakness - twice now - will surely have ramifications later.
Even though mechanically my blood is full, from an RP perspective I always make a point to feed once a night. While technically we awoke tonight to the beast feeding on some poor doll in Weaver Tower, I imagine we're still a bit thirsty after needing to piece ourselves together from an explosion. I really like the feeding animations here, and how they vary based on situation and target size, i.e. it looks a little difference to feed on a pro wrestler sized ghoul mid-combat than it does to talk a woman into it, or simply walking up and surprising them. During the surprise feeds, there's a little bit where you kind of push them away and look at their face for a second, like you're checking that they're really out of it, that they won't remember what happened. I appreciate the little touches.

We arrive at the church to find it has a small selection of graves scattered about, and a section of metal fence has been broken down, but appears to have been pushed out rather than in. Strange. There's an obvious (maybe too obvious) path in the snow as well. Our character didn't live four hundred years by being dumb, and she has a half decent detective in her head too, so we do a little walk around the premises, checking it out with Auspex, just in case. But nothing seems awry, some homeless in an alley, but otherwise the place is quiet as the grave. Heh.
Ah I would recognize that voice anywhere too. Here's our old buddy Garrus Vakarian. What a fun cast, two mass effect people together again so far already.
>>583414309On Nenio you use the mirror image. On Ember you use ice aoe that slows things down.Everyone should get last stand before act 4.
We make our entrance to the church to find it totally empty. Our character is an undead predator, a practitioner of horrific blood magic, a murderer, and even a lesbian. One might have expected a bolt of lightning to strike as soon as we set foot inside, and Phyre probably hasn't made a habit of visiting churches these last few centuries, I like to think she was a little superstitious about it too. We can only assume that her mortal virginity was her saving grace here.

>>583417683>Phyre doesn't know what a sepulchre isI don't recall this. >says to Fabien it is 'your religion'Pretty straightforward, it's not her religion. I think it's an interesting thing for kindred because so many of them don't have to take it on faith, they know for a fact that the supernatural is real, and most of them take it for granted that their story is linked to the bible and all that stuff really did happen. But she's not necessarily turning up to confession or praying each night like she did as a young girl either, most of them just don't see things that way. That's for the kine with their intact souls and avatars and whatnot, we're something else. In-character, it's probably just not something she has thought about in a long time.>canonically a muslimNot to my knowledge, and certainly not our character. She was born in Venice, grew up in Constantinople as the daughter of a semi wealthy merchant family, she was raised Roman Catholic. Had we played Assamite she probably would have been a muslim, but in this particular playthrough that didn't happen.Part of playing a CRPG - in my opinion - is develop a strong idea of your character and backstory, and not simply defaulting to what the wiki says. All that matters is internal consistency and your own enjoyment. If I want the Exile to be a male and Revan to be female, that is perfectly fine within the context of my own playthrough, even if the wiki says otherwise.
>>583416962if it's not in game it's not canon
>waa waa why did you rush the fane why did you let the rearguard do their job (2nd time only) why did you save your BPD sister from another mistersure stinks of old, slow and fat BITCH in this place
In any case, the church is eerily abandoned, one might have expected to at least find a priest wandering about. Someone lit some candles at least, which Phyre and Fabien both notices. In a backroom we find a business card, some so-called 'ghost hunters' appeared, talking like some of the anons here and wanting to make a video of some sort. Not in our best interests maybe.
A lot of political machinations in Hollywood and with the God's Militia. Some nice possibilities that emerge out of other possibilities in this area. Like, first being tasked to find out if the domme prostitute is in love with someone, turning her in or not and if not, then various configurations about her and the guy.I'm pleased with happening into this plan, as it fits the Rangers well. Out with current Madame Heidi, and head of God's Militia Mayweather, then Veronica running Hollywood and McDade running God's Militia, and both thankful and friendly to the Desert Rangers.
>>583418708galfrey sucks cock
Regardless, onwards and down. Is this what the zoomers call a 'liminal space' and shit their britches over, or is that something else? It's a nice atmosphere in any case. The whole sequence establishes that the church is a little quieter and a little more empty than it ought to be, and there's a nice tension where the player and the character are both aligned in feeling a little on edge about it, knowing something will happen but not being sure what. It's something that could have been ruined by making Fabien too chatty or playing too much music, and they managed to avoid both.

Candles lit, but nobody around. And we've seen this before, somewhere...Out of character, Phyre and Fabien don't immediately place it, but we saw this in the abandoned building where we first woke up after our 'vampire bundy' beast rampage through the streets.

This group isn't the usual anarch loser squad, there's a few full on kindred among them. Still, nothing a little Thaumaturgy can't handle. Boiling someone so that their screams draw in their friends, cursing them so they explode, and then mopping up the survivors with magic missiles all in quick succession is one the great power fantasy moments in CRPGs. Though I regard VTMB2 as wildly overhated and memed more than played, I still think VTMB is the superior game. But combat is one area where the sequel is just head and shoulders better. Every discipline is unique and feels unique, and everything just feels so much more in-line with the fantasy the two games are selling. You can mix and match (expensively) disciplines, but each clan has their unique feeling.

I take a moment to inspect some of the bodies that survived without getting too mangled. Strange scars and marks, including all of them having a very prominent mark in the center of their chest matching my hand. A small number were present in Ysabella's big crip off, and a few turned up outside Willem's place too and actually pressed me a little. Not anarchs, and not simple ghoul retainers either. Sabbat is the obvious conclusion given we know they're in the city now, but even then there's something off about it, the shovelheads in my time weren't known to mark themselves up like that. This one was kindred, so the heavy scarring was done beforehand. >>583420638Very good anon, I audibly chuckled irl.
Someone has been disturbing the graves, obviously looking for something. Might explain the fence pushed down from the inside that we saw on our way in.

And our forbidden texts, preserved on something 'other than paper'. I like the little blurb added if you're Tremere - Thaumaturgy isn't something you're born with just because you're in the clan, you have to study and practice like any other wizard. She was a bit of a bookworm in her mortal youth anyways, and would have spent the first few decades of unlife in magical study. You can offer to assist Safia with decoding it later also, which makes a (small) difference in outcome. Not every piece of reactivity in a CRPG needs to be some world shaking thing that gives you a new cutscene at the end of the game, sometimes it's the little things.
Shorstackfags will lust after hairy deformed dysgenic creatures and then act like you're the weird one for not jacking off.

As we make our exit, some new faces are waiting for us. And unlike those below who we overheard talking about looking through crates and caskets, these are very clearly waiting on us. We handle them pretty much the same way, although there was a cool moment where we telekinetically pulled the big Brujah's gun from his hand and killed him with it, but I didn't get a screenshot. Hard to convey that in images anyways. But take my word for it that it was a cool moment, and Phyre secretly wishes Safia had seen it.
>>583421347>preserved on something 'other than paper'That just means parchment, which is made of thin sheets of dried goatskin
>>583421643I was thinking something more magical and World-of-Darkness-y like human skin, but yeah maybe parchment.
On all levels except physical, I'm basically a vampire irl
They even tried to lock us in, having not seen the Watchman movie. Adorable. Part of me wishes the game had a lockpicking skill (maybe something on loan from Fabien), but there's something really satisfying about just being able to break everything with our super strength instead.

Back on the streets, Fabien has a good point - the first group we encountered might have been a mistake, they sounded like they were searching for something and not expecting us, but the second clearly knew we were there and had prepared for a fight. Lou sent us in the first place. The same Lou with a distaste for my clan that she can't help but mention at any opportunity, and the same Lou who was in possession of books on Thaumaturgical rituals involved in the same sort of binding I now suffer from. And the same Lou that was very eager to let us know that we were her agent when we last spoke, just before her 'episode'. In Phyre's mind I think a very strong suspicion is forming about the source of her troubles. Fabien keeps having flashbacks to investigating a series of murders he connected to a Hunter - Santiago, who Isaac pegged as a member of the Society of Leopold - a church might be a logical meeting place for such a cell. Connection? But we'll leave it there for tonight, and resume soon. After getting Safia her research materials, we still have stops to make - not the least of which is Tolly, who sent us after Willem to begin with and who just happened to be on the scene to pull us out of the rubble.
