In Rance X How are you supposed to keep all 4 countries alive without double supression? I did a double supression of the free cities and it's still extremely dire on turn 8. Having to use my actions on non support or supression actions is killing me. Do you just need 2 or 3 double supressions to get ahead of the curve while going for ending A? I noticed you lose a ton of content doing a double supress though. The post first failure tiles and then almost all of the second maps tiles. If you have to do multiple double supressions for a cleanish war that's a big sacrifice.

Especially since some events that make countries fall are hard to foresee and prevent on a first game, and some countries are weaker than others in a way that's hard to perceive until you see the war play out.I also think it's supposed to feel dire.But the TLDR is the balance between the human and monster troops is important. A country can fall if the troop counts are too far apart, on the other hand a country can win by itself if both fiends are beaten and they have enough troops. Support the countries that are doing the worst. If I recall right that's Zeth and Helman by default, but if you don't spread your support the other countries can falter too. Of course double suppression helps but if I remember right, I don't think it's necessary just to get an A ending.

I'm on my first game and I'm winning the combats relatively easily, the only ones I usually don't win are the intended draw or double supress triggers which are clearly meant to be a ng+ thing but I managed one anyway. So the ng+ bonuses wouldn't matter too much if you don't have to double supress unless they add troops to the countries or something like that. Because I already know about part 2 I looked up the conditions and timers for it and decided to make an earnest attempt at hitting all of them and seeing how far that gets me. I'm probably making it to ending A but the war situation is far from pretty. If you don't have to double supress my path was probably wrong in a few ways. I did Leazas 1, Helman 1, Zeth 1, Free cities double. Leazas has been hanging on really well while everyone else is in the shitter and the free cities were so poor off that they reported a predicted complete loss of all troops 2 turns in a row. Leazas could've probably waited but Hawzel is a big reason as to why I'm having no issues in combat. Aside from that I got Wenlina and escorted Crook for prep phase plus a conscription because the free cities were that dire, then found Miki and took Shangrila. Going to have to go rescue Hornet now that it's turn 8 which'll make turn 9 pretty rough.

Is it a legitimate tactic to grind down armies through defensive battles? I finished my last session by starting a war with Zeth but their slave units are fucking massive and the only way I can force them to fight on the plains, I think, is to let them attack me. As amazing as the Custom girls and Isoroku are, they can't instagib entire units on their own and the size limits in towns are way too small.

Is it a semi-random thing, dependent on units left, whether the leader of a unit in KR will take damage even though they still have units left? Obviously leaders with only a handful of units left will take lots of damage, but I've also seen Maria take 1 HP of damage from an attack even though her unit took about 40 casualties from 220, not exactly what one would call close to being annihilated. Chenezali, Stessel, the caste system of Zeth, Kouhime having magic powers because of being part demon, the whale delighting in bloodshed, Redeye's curse, the entire Demon King system...I love the sad theme that plays during dramatic scenes, by the way.

X stuffI just beat part 1, managed an A ending despite the dire situation due to my double supress of the free cities plus double conscripting it. I thought I was screwed since conscription is a one off but a great success in all regions prep mission minimized losses combined with a liberation of the free cities and the healer base event into the redistribution of all free cities soldiers helped every region hold long enough to get past the final mission. Not clean at all, hit 30% casualties and never got to see Saizel after doing leazas 1 first to try to ensure I got her. But well maybe that's for the best. Also along the way I did steel horror ending so I guess this is technically my second ending even though it's the first game and I reloaded to before the quest. Anyway as for the ending itself, I already knew what was coming, though not how. So actually playing through it, holy shit birds irredeemable. Worse than Medusa. I view Medusa more favorably after that scene because at least she's not bird. If he actually did aim for Rance and Sill got in the way, sure. I could at least understand it even though he'd be scum, but intentionally targeting Sill? I don't have words to describe how vile he is. While I've absorbed a lot less about part 2 besides stuff like El, I don't remember ever seeing anything about bird. In fact that scene was the only scene I knew bird appeared in. Don't dare tell me he gets away with it.

Was pretty fun, I guess going into it without high expectations helped. The art was really good, a big upgrade compared to 4.2/KR, but I do have to say that 5D's depiction of Rance is my least favorite. Rhizna on the other hand, was much cuter than the one I remember from SR (I now feel a little bad for just letting her get K.I.A or dismissing her as soon as I got Magic in my many SR playthroughs). The RNG reroll spam final bosses, lack of manual saves and some of the BGM kiinda sucked, but overall, the gameplay was fine. The roulette wasn't that bad, I only regret not getting to learn what happened after the Kurupistonians attacked Pearl Harbor.

It's the next day and my train of thought is no longer disrupted. Overall I had a lot of fun with the game. It's simple but engaging. But I've also been disappointed quite a bit by a lack of content from most characters besides the required story ones. Hornet being a good example. Besides her meal ticket events I think she only gets like 20? lines total after recruiting her, with most coming from the end of game scene with Miki. You'd think she would be way more important to the story. Never got any h-scene with her either. Hawzel also never got any proper sex scene as well, it was offscreened. Though one hcg is more than most others get and she appears in a second with Saizel which I never got.
