Funger is a turn based rpg and its gimmick is dismemberment. Every enemy will have limbs that you can cut off and certain actions are tied to those limbs. Every battle is a puzzle where you need to figure out an optimal dismemberment order to kill the enemy with minimal damage to your party.
For example, the optimal order to fight a certain enemy is first cutting of the arm they are holding their weapon, then using a defense option to avoid the insta kill attack, then attack their torso until they die.

The game is a semi-roguelike. The world will always be the same, but the loot you find is not, so each run has a different set of resources that you will get. Death is permanent too, so if a party member dies they stay dead until the next run or if you load a save.
You are not forced to restart over when you die, you can just load a save, but it is possible to softlock yourself if you run out of resources and fuck up too much so you will restart. The dismemberment gimmick also applies to your main character so if you lose an arm or leg early you will most likely reset or save reload.
The game also has a fear and sanity system so if you get unlucky you can not progress and need to reset because you ran out of food or torches.
The game also has multiple ending so even if you commit to a run eventually you will restart again to get a new one.

So if that interests you get it.
If you are still not sure just buy the game, the first 2 hours gives you a good example of how it plays and if you dislike it just refund it.

What are the thoughts on the bosses of this canto? I just finished the fight with Jeanne and assume I am now done with the canto except for the epilogue and I have a few thoughts about the fights:

1) Every noir/rouge fight was a cakewalk. The final fight of the B route being the Noir centaur was extremely underwhelming given how intense the evil black fish thing immediately before it was.
2) Both Buffet fights were cool. My biggest problem with the adult fight was how buffed the ads got immediately. I think there should be one turn where he doesn't buff them and if you get them to <50% HP in that one turn they don't get buffed.
3) Chaplain fight was great start to finish. Was there a penalty for opening up the passives? I got the one jump scare but after that seemed to be able to open it up again for no penalty.
4) I actually struggled the most with the Jeanne fight but that was only because I had next to no resources left after the Buffet fight and many of my sinners were at 0 SP from being dead. I think having her start with 45 SP and having huge clash values is rough. That's actually the only difficulty related thing I'd change with this canto. Either make it so that your sinners all start with 30 SP minimum or something OR make it so that her numbers are significantly lower on early turns.
5) In general I liked the increased number of puzzle bosses that demanded things beyond just using your best skills to win clashes.
6) I would have liked more choice between engaging enemies in the Shadow vs the Symbolic. Maybe make it possible to skip a phase in Shadow if you do enough damage in Symbolic but make the Symbolic fights generally more punishing.

It's good that the bosses were generally really fun/well done because all of the normal encounters were a complete waste of time. Any non-overworld combat that wasn't a boss was dull and win-rate able immediately.

Looking forward the Mersault ID where he just takes over for his mother as Giant.

They have people spending hours on a single boss and calling it fun. It's not fun folks! It's unfair, repetitive, and destroying a great story.

And the system is totally rigged! Unless you’re grinding MD every day or spending limbillions whaling on every banner, you can't win! You used to win with base IDs. Great base IDs! Now? Forget it. If you aren’t running tremor scorch, house of spiders, or heishous, you’re finished. China is laughing at us! ZZZ and GFL2 buff old teams to make them great again. But Project Moon? They only cater to a tiny group of elitists who like powercreep and ruinaslop. Sad!

The story is the only thing keeping this game afloat, believe me. Otherwise, it's just a low-energy, glorified coin-flip simulator. Overtuned bosses! Pure artificial difficulty! Turn 1 quite literally as amped clashing power because you're supposed to get bleed over some sinners so that way the fight won't snowball horrifically once phase 2 comes in and the boss starts spanking asses for trying to avoid the bleed mechanic and unga bunga it. Turn 2 goes back to normal. Around then is when you should start using EGOs or S3s if you have them, and actually READ the bosses' skills and passives to get a better idea of what you're supposed to do.

It's especially telling when one of the biggest complaints about that fight is about the adds unstaggering and buttfucking sinners with unopposed attacks, when they should have read the Gluttony skill much more thoroughly to realize you're supposed to let the boss weaken the adds so you can burst them down when they're vulnerable and skip the unstagger+unopposed gank.
