Chapter 1 is very heavy with it, chapter 2 explores the fallout of that, and chapter 3 has Teenshley's speech. It's also why a lot of the setting feels crappy even through a childish comedic filter. It's meant to stress just how important it is that the Graves have each other's backs, because people who love and support you are a rare and precious commodity in a world that can sometimes feel like a state so sad you just have to laugh at. The setting's not just out to get Ashley and Andrew, it's damaged them, in ways so deep that they're now damaging others and each other. That gives some vindictiveness behind their actions, but also the eternal question of "What would they be like if they could hop off the cycle"?
