To start I'll try to Steel-man the position. The importance of accepting things 'as they are' is important to maintaining a healthy relationship to facts of life outside of your control. So many things in life are outside of your control that it's important to learn to accept certain facts so you can function in your day to day life. Reality can be defined as something that doesn't go away once you stop believing in it. One can ignore reality for a time but eventually it makes itself known not matter if you like it or not. Thus indulging in escapism in moderation, can be a bit of a reprieve, but too much will cause an undue amount of suffering when reality can no longer be escaped. The point of putting value on "accepting things as they are" and not "ignoring reality" is to keep people from suffering the whiplash reality will give them by reminding them to self regulate before this happens. Now what I believe is the pitfall of this mindset is the fact that it leads to accepting things as 'unchangeable reality' that are actually completely malleable. Bad actors can often use this to justify their bad behavior and discourage their victims from seeking any sort of change. An abusive parent telling a child "that's just the way things are" when they absolutely do not have to be for instance. Or even an abusive government has a vested interest in making its people believe "it can't be changed" and to just accept such things as facts of life. And people in an effort to avoid their own personal suffering reinforce these ideas. I'm out of space. 1/2
