I lurk here every now and then just to keep tabs on the place, see any news going on. As for the controversy about this contest,, I think it goes to show that everyone, regardless of them being a new fan or veteran, understands that Skullgirls is inherently a sexy game of sexy women and fanservice. No matter how you look at it, that's simply a fact. People will make NSFW content of the characters - some not everyone will agree with or like, to be sure - but at the end of the day Skullgirls is a game where a big breasted nurse fights everyone from a pantsless princess, a half-dressed cat woman, a muscled-up himbo, and a psychotic grandma with a gaggle of air-headed Playboy bunny killers. I think Skullgirls is a product of its time - in the sense that the fanservice it shows was meant to be taken as a joke, as part of the humor and character. Whether or not it aged poorly is a discussion for people far smarter than me, but the characters making jokes about their breast sizes or butts and so on, for example, shows that the designs are meant to be seen in a purposefully over-the-top light. If the fanservice was truly that taboo, so controversial, I don't think anyone -Mike, Kinuko, Brady, etc - would have even considered being a part of the game. Alex wouldn't have even been able to find anyone to help him if Skullgirls was so unspeakably obscene. Again, whether or not the design choices aged appropriately made at the time others can discuss. I think Skullgirls is a lot more than its designs - it would be kind of insulting to ignore the other interesting aspects of it technically and world-wise - but its impossible to truly remove the fanservice from a game that openly joked that it was "hot 2-D fighting."
