There's little to no limits on matches, so you could be in your un-upgraded F-4E going up against fully upgraded Barricaders, and even if you're in the PvE mode you won't be fast enough to get to targets before those guys on your team do
Somehow they didn't think to add cost limits to anything other than T/DM
>>
>>583779956
For a lot of people it's too grindy and people are shitters, especially in the Emergency Sorties where everyone ignores the objective. For me and others though, the menus are GODAWFUL. Something as simple as checking SP weapons is nested under something like seven menus.

>Why the fuck do you have a fire control system for the satellite on a plane instead of the satellite???
Because the satellite doesn't have enough space for a crew.
>Why put the system on the plane instead of the super fortified mega fortress from the get go???
So you can control the satellite when it's cloudy over the megafort.
>Why does the satellite only defend itself when fired upon instead of someone being able to tell it to shoot a target???
Because the satellite doesn't have a computer powerful enough on board to do targeting calculations, they need to be fed to it.
>>
>>583780472
>So you can control the satellite when it's cloudy over the megafort.
Clouds don't stop radio or radar.
>Because the satellite doesn't have a computer powerful enough on board to do targeting calculations, they need to be fed to it.
Then how can it shoot shit on it's own when it's being attacked?

Fa36 is shit, sure it's fast and maneuverable and modded sod is ok but I don't care for sasm and it's an ugly design, planform is all fucked up, the droopy wingtips is hideous, reminds me of the ai jet from the movie stealth.

>Clouds don't stop radio or radar.
Have you played the game? They very much do, even in short distances when you're trying to lock onto a plane. The distance to space is a couple orders of magnitude more than that.

>Then how can it shoot shit on it's own when it's being attacked?
It doesn't take calculations to shoot something coming straight at you, especially in space when there's no ballistic trajectory.

If you upgrade the blast radius and power of the SASM you can use it as a makeshift air-to-ground bomb to take out small groups of ground targets.
It works. It gets annoying when your targeting system wants to lock onto a plane in the air and it flies off somewhere else, but it's so stupid that it works.

I said this on release. I don't think this game's design fits for pvp. Could be good for MP PVE though. But the PVP is just...
But also I don't know how much money and time was spent on the multiplayer relative to the amount that they could potentially earn from it. Like maybe it was dirt cheap to produce and people have already paypiggied enough to have effectively covered for all the extra costs.

I think co-op PvE with the bros has the potential to be a lot of fun but they *really* need to be giant missions without the forced competitive slop

Bringing back operations as a large lobby coop mode would be pretty great, but I have to agree that the focus on competitive multiplayer just isn't a good fit for a game like this.
The freaks can have their token TDM mode at the bottom of the matchmaking list, but the focus should be on cooperative content first.

>>
>>583779956
The game's systems don't feel thought out at all
No real private lobbies.
The menus needing you to press 8 things more than you're supposed to immediately piss you off
The hub space feels unpolished and just an excuse to sell you MTX
The progression is abysmal and it'll take you at least like 400 matches or something to earn your way to a 5th gen fighter (which all of the unemployed smelly competitive tryhards have already obtained, and you will face against an IEWS fitted 5th gen in your first matches already)
The fighting itself has never felt more random to the point where it feels even more loose than ACI, you can't really dogfight, you can't consistently rely on missiles between netcode and stuff like the "focusing bonus" which speeds up your missile completely throwing off the shot you were lining up, you'll get times where planes are flying at like 10hz and you will see them stutter from one frame to the next or just hang in mid-air
There's no cost limits, so you can't NOT play against super advanced planes
You can't tell the game what mission you want to play, so if you wanna hunt ships because that's all you have for your new plane, have fun playing air to air only for 10 missions until the search resets.
Plane archetypes have debuffs in damage to the thing you're "not meant to be hitting", but more importantly, they have a points debuff, so if there's no ground targets up and the attacker still wants to play the game, they will be griefing you if they try to take air targets because the game will reward you with less points
It's bad. Really bad and not intuitive and just anti-fun.
>>
>>583783503
I-It was only bad because of the oil system!
>>
>>583783379
"Forced competitive slop" also includes scoreboard faggotry. At most the only score you should get is your own, and it should essentially be meaningless.
>>
>>583783503
I didn't get to play Infinity in its prime, I only got to play the emulated version, and the thing that struck me the most about it, that was an inherent flaw of the game that no matter how many free planes you had was gonna fix, and applicable to AC Online so this'll be a follow up post to my other reply

>>583783586
The worst part about the Online mode for me is how much it LOVES to make you feel useless
PvE isn't Cooperative PvE, it's a battle royale where you're hunting for ground targets and if your plane wasn't as boosted as someone elses or if god forbid you just misunderstood the extremely vague advice for the game with "fighter - multirole - attacker" you will lag behind by a shitload no matter how good or how hard you were trying.
Especially in Scrambles (4v8 special PvE A2A only mission), people have no etiquette, if it goes well for you, you can get out of it with like 10k Zoll (which is like, equivalent to doing 5-6 matches, and my estimate comes from my experience where I always used boosters so assume half of what I just quoted normally), which is great! Except you probably need to get at least 2 kills for that payout, except no one will just get their 2 kills and let people get their own share. So you just got the super special mission meant to be a free payout, only for you to miss out on everything because someone else wanted it all for themselves, and now the mission is gone and you'll have to do ??? amount of missions before you get to try that again.
God forbid you want to try out multiple planes and have fun with the game. You're just really meant to stick with one thing and grind it out to level 20, and everything else will just be way too time consuming to get.
>>
>>583783586

All I wanted was co-op, straight forward couch co-op. Just a couple of missions where I'm the pilot and my player 2 is the WSO.
Thats all I wanted.

beat the game last night (elite difficulty) probably best AC since ps2 trilogy yep yep. Good game just wish the last 2 missions were cooler, idk they felt like a damp squib compared to the other end-game missions you do (like 28) Hoping we get some dlc where we have a last battle against some extremely intense super-weapon/super-plane. Just give us some bullshit that makes us suck up our nuts everytime we do a High-G turn to evade missiles.
Probably my favourite wingmen, AWACS and XO in the series. It's just very solid aside from a few things. The 'PRESS BUTTON TO LOOK' is obnoxious mid mission, it does not have to be that big and attention grabbing.
Also, the glare on objective markers on the map and regular view got a bitch sometimes, it hurt my eyes if it clustered too many together and it was basically impossible for me to tell what I was looking at sometimes .
Finally: Good lord Usea is such a shithole. Every game they make it a worse place to live. Are the Yukes and Oseans laughing at us Usea bros?? How did it get this bad.
Oh right the Ulysses strike.
Every game we get new countries and divisions. How do the Useans not have any sense of unity against the Sotoans after two wars against Erusea? The Eruseans are basically teddy bears compared to the BLOODTHIRSTY RAIDER OF THE STEPPE coming in on megafloats and genocide spears.

>>583783924
I feel like we should've just gotten the campaign in co-op already, and it's what we were hoping for when we first spotted the co-op tag on the Steam Store. Unfortunately we didn't even get private lobbies where the game adjusts for player amounts within the missions, that already would've helped a lot with that.
I don't think normal shootouts can even be hosted anymore since TDM requires you to be in a 4 stack and match against ANY 4 stack out there willing to fight, and Battle Royale (as in free for all) is a time limited mode.

>>583784118
Yeah I felt that too. I got the Super Hornet F because I loved in the campaign, realised it would take me like 100k Zoll to get it beyond Level 15 to get it with the LASM/GPB config I want it for PvPvE ground strikes and my will to play just kind of evaporated.
I'm not really enjoying the fighting, I don't really want the 5th gens that badly, so what do I even wanna grind for?
Even if I get the Barricader and basically auto-win every match, why would I care to win against randoms if I'm not having fun?

I like the lobby in concept, but the execution is sub-barebones, it barely functions, and everything in it can also be accessed in the menu, defeating the entire thing.
It should've been one massive lobby that took up the entire base, like the stuff you see in the background, and have sharded zones of that base. Put in a bunch of shit that can win you prizes and cosmetics like claw machines, coin pushers, and ticket droppers. If you really wanna go all out, put in some shitass FOB-quality basketball or badminton courts. You could totally make this a fucking killer part of multiplayer, but it's so unfinished and poorly implemented that it's annoying to use. I really hope they expand it into something worth interacting with, and soon.

>>
>>583784812
Probably, but I've never had it happen. It's a three minute game and there are only eight enemies. They're tough but your team would really need to be slacking to not be able to kill them in that time limit. All you need is a single competent person and they can wipe most of them solo.

The variation doesn't seem that bad in my experience. I get ~6000 on a bad round and ~7500 on my record 10000 points one where the rest of the team weren't doing anything, before contracts. It's far better than a normal round anyway.
The real problem is it gives plane specific blueprints and not general ones like emergencies, so that part sucks. I can buy specific blueprints with zoll, so they're not important. Gold ones are. Especially since scramble likes giving blueprints for planes I don't care about anyway. Give me the fucking emergencies.

I have finally finished the AC8 campaign, and I have some thoughts.
~22 hours (Steam playtime, includes menus), on Veteran.
AC player since 2004.

When I finished AC7, I thought that it was weird and didn't really "get" the story until after later playthroughs and talks with /aceg/.
This time, my thoughts are clearer.

Still, I want to see if my impressions line up with the rest of you guys, or if I'm way off-base on something.

>general spoilers:
>Higher highs than AC7, but lower lows.

>There were a lot of great moments, often undercut somewhat by just how little context you're given about what's going on in the broader war most of the time—or by characters not reacting as seriously as you'd think that they should, given the context that you think you're seeing. And it's usually just that they're not freaking out like they should be. You could apply that more broadly to the whole war, too. People mostly weren't treating it like it was as devastating as it looked.
>There were some moments that were just great, executed almost perfectly, well done.
>There were a lot of moments that could have been great, but just weren't presented / executed well. Often, this was an issue with things just being unclear. Other times, though, the dialogue would clunkily reiterate stuff like four times just to make sure that you didn't miss it.
>And then there were some moments that were just so corny and detached from reality that they got in the way of me taking the events seriously (which I was getting more and more invested in as time went on, because of all the good moments).

>S rank seems a LOT easier to get than it was in AC7. I took my time in AC7 (because I like to explore, okay?) and didn't get a single S on my first time through. I think I played it on Hard, but it might've been Normal.
>In AC8, I got 20/30 S ranks without rushing anything.
>Also, I hate how they changed the difficulty names.
>>
>the title unlock from the paypass is Solo Wing Pixy, not just Solo Wing
that's so fucking stupid
>>
>>583786823
>specific spoilers:
I still don't really get how / why the war started.
Enso Order manipulated something something, yeah, sure—but I wish I had a better sense of 1. what the two sides *thought* they were fighting for, 2. what the cassus belli that kicked it off was, and 3. how the events of the war played out before we got involved.
This is the sort of stuff that is usually clearer on second playthroughs, but I made sure to pay really close attention this time, and I don't see where the gaps could've been with explanations that I just missed.
All I really got was that the Sotoans have a single racial trait of "being nomads" and so they wanted lebensraum in Usea and decided to go all supervillain out of nowhere. They were heartless psycho warriors who wanted to kill everyone when they invaded, and in their radio dialogue throughout most of the war—but by the end of the war, they were reasonable enough people again to not only negotiate but to feel *indignant* at how Enso Order had treated them?
The FCU's motivation of "let's not die" is clearer.

I wish that we'd been given a better sense of how the war was going with FCU forces who weren't us, to give us a better sense of how we were a piece of a whole military. It would give us a better sense of why things were happening when they did, instead of some next missions seeming to come out of nowhere.
I feel like AC5, sometimes just in what it showed in its briefing maps, did a better job of giving this sort of context.

I thought that the blackout at the end of AC7 set up an INCREDIBLY interesting setting for future games—seeing how countries might act without the satellite surveillance or global infrastructure that hegemons like Osea and Yuktobania use to enforce their order.
And it also coincided with the declassification date of Circum-Pacific War documents (2020), which could've upset people enough to start a war over.
And we just skipped that period? I really hope we go back to it.
>>
>>583786654
What do you mean?
Everything I've read says that the damage you do is directly tied to the length of the air-to-X stat bar in the hangar
I'm definitely doing less damage than my Tomcat and Fishbed
>>
>>583786954
>specific spoilers:
I wish that characters / the public weren't still hung up on Cope being Wings months after we'd established our own impressive reputation.
Like, DD, you don't have to fake shit anymore. We seem good enough on our own.
And I wish that they'd better shown how Wings's fake story was affecting people, beyond just one girl with a drawing going "we have hope that things might get better." Like, convince me that there was a purpose to DD continuing to fake stuff long after we were kicking ass on our own. Show us why it was vital to troop morale or something. And then, the accusation that it was all lies would've been more impactful, too.

I was annoyed at how they threatened destroying the ISEV, damaged it in such a way that it probably *should've* been destroyed, but then didn't let it collapse.
It felt like they wanted have the shock of threatening to destroy it, but were too afraid to follow through on the natural consequences of what they'd done because of how much they'd built up the Lighthouse in AC7 and 8 as a beacon of hope and a refugee settlement (they're still there?) and a power source and blah blah blah
So, to keep the land battleship from destroying more of the supports, they just had it... doing donuts. lmao

Are land battleships amphibious? Because if not, how the fuck did that one cross the bridge to the Lighthouse without crushing it?

The Heart of Darkness tunnel gremlins under Fort Gray's Air Base were absurd.

Nagase? Again? Please let her retire after this, she's gotta be close to collecting Osean social security.

I didn't mind the reuse of old locations from past games. It made sense, it was nice to see some old places, and I thought that it was usually done well. For instance, I thought that they showed the redevelopment / evolution of Newfield Island from AC4 very nicely.
>>
>>583787039
>specific spoilers:
I noticed them reusing maps from past missions, but didn't mind. The changes to clouds, lighting, and what you were doing made it feel different enough.
Some of the clouds + lighting environments were genuinely beautiful (Escort Orbiter comes to mind).

I didn't believe that Cope was a ghost for the longest time. I thought that he was some AI fragment made from brain scans trained off of his flying like in AC7, and that we could only hear him because we still had his same helmet.
But then we lost the helmet (because it shows up in that picture).
I hope that this just stays as some one-off artsy-fartsy thing. I really hope that they don't introduce supernatural shit into Ace Combat as a series mainstay now.

They should've had escorting Sotoan troops accompanying Ms. Hot Wheels and Mr. Supervillain to explain why we didn't just pop them right then, but we've been over that.

I didn't like how they implemented the "avoid the radar" mission in this game. The plane that they give you was probably most of why I disliked it. If you want to stick me in something pitiful, put me back in the trainer jets from AC5.
But no, it had to be an A6 so that Baxter could give me his glasses and hold my hand or something.
Still, I prefer when you couldn't see the bubbles, and had to go by your actual radar. But failing because of misjudging a bubble would get in the way of the overly-scripted story sequence that they were really using that for, I guess.

The squadmate characters were done pretty well.
Tasha's delivery is overdone, but at least her voice isn't grating.
Coster is cool. Reminds me of a co-worker who almost never talks.
Baxter ended up meaning more to me than I thought.
Kate is best girl, unquestionably. And they had me going for a while there. They give you a mission to really stew on what you think happened.
The supporting characters were mostly decent.
>>
>>583787138
>specific spoilers:
The AWACS's voice sounded like some goober character from UK children's television. I couldn't take him seriously, and that really got in the way of some moments. He's no Thunderhead, that's for sure.
DD was super inconsistent. The "where are my heckin livestream viewers" sequence and the "oh yay 90 billion viewers that means we're saved now" moment was turbocringe.

There are some sequences (I think mostly in-mission cutscenes) where the music drowns out what characters are saying.

The "here's everybody coming back to help you" thing in mission 28 could have been done well—like, I think that the team-up sequence at the end of AC5 was presented decently—but they made the threat in this mission so retardedly absurd to begin with, and then made most of the squad introductions so fucking cartoonish.
I wanted to be able to believe (or at least better understand) the enemy's motives there.
And I wish that we'd at least had a line (unless I missed it) explaining why your allies all knew / decided to show up at just that moment. Like, have the XO say something about putting out a request for back-up, but there's no time, so we've gotta sortie now, and then you can have that Checkov's Gun fulfilled later in the mission when people do end up arriving. As it was, they seemed to come out of nowhere in the most convenient way possible.

People in the setting were really blasé about tungsten rods getting dropped on civilian cities. And the death count was an absurd underestimate. What we saw was apocalyptic. You'd think that the hatred would have been stronger. But we never got a good sense of the wider picture, so the reality of it can always stay frustratingly shrouded in mystery.

Some of the later Lux Lunae fights were really challenging, and I don't know HOW the fuck a new player is supposed to handle those.

WHERE is my canyon mission?

WHERE is my tunnel mission? No, the megafloat doesn't count. No, not turntable either.

The Sotoa-Yuke war forced them to industrialize, which accelerated the desertification of their country. They needed land to nomad around in, and they couldn't go east and attack the Yukes they just lost to, so they went west.

oh, right
it's so incongruous with their war strategy of "turning everything into ash and giant holes" that I forgot about it
I remembered that the Sotoan-Yuke war was their backstory, but I didn't connect it as a motivator for them to go to Usea

>They're under construction in a traditional drydock next to water
I suppose it could have just been there because the construction facilities for a normal ship can be used to build a land ship as well... but that's probably not the only reason for it
you're probably right

>test the new autofiring system
right
from the player's perspective, you're having to dodge occasional railgun shots either way, whether it's automated or not, so I guess it didn't seem like a big enough deal for me to note the connection

>Higher highs than AC7, but lower lows.
I'd say AC7 had higher highs and its highs were more natural, whereas highs of AC8 feels more forced. The average level of AC8 is higher though and still has pretty high highs.

>execution of moments
I don't like that it relied so much on looking at stuff by holding Y/Triange. Feels unnatural. I think just injecting a cutscene or a picture in picture view depending on the importance would serve it better.

>difficulty
Felt a lot easier than 7 overall. I think they knew the game would pull lots of new fans to the series so they kept it more accessible.

>>583786954
>war
Yuktobania tried to invade Sotoa, Sotoa had to industrialise quickly to prevent that invasion but doing so turned their land uninhabitable, so they invested into megafloats. They yearn for lands again and FCU is probably the most suitable target, having already been weakened by wars. I'm not sure what their casus belli is, maybe something like manifest destiny, but I don't think it matters too much, at the end of the day it's just the kool aid.

>perspective on war
I think to some degree, information is intentionally kept limited to play into the first person storytelling and the theme about misinformation and fog of war.

Agreed.
I feel the Assault Horizon DNA there. At least they aren't handcuffing us to on-rails sequences anymore, but you can tell that they still kind of want to.

And the regular "hold triangle to track target" effect has this dumb zoom-in animation now that makes it way less responsive. I really hope that they add an option to use the older, snappier style of tracking.

Plus, if you're already holding triangle when one of those prompts comes up, it messes up what you think you're doing and you can miss whatever they're trying to show you.

I wouldn't mind the grind too much if the game wasn't just a complete miserable slog to actually play.

The fact a single LAAM slinger can solo the entire air aspect of a match and you probably have 3-5 of them in a lobby because it's the only viable A2A weapon right now, with the rest of the lobby most likely being a mix of Morgan / F-15E / Fullback because those are the only viable ground attackers in the complete ratrace that Assault is.

It doesn't feel like any level of co-op when everyone is desperately scrambling to hit the same target for 10 seconds of dopamine and your own team would rather fuck each other over.

The battleship wouldn't want to destroy it, they wanted to use it to send satellites up. Presumably they believe they can win the battle while fighting, and if they do, they would get back to satellite sending more easily with a less damaged elevator. Also if broken the elevator wouldn't collapse, it would fly up into the space.
As for refugees, they're basically permanently settled there now. ISEV has become a micronation independent from Erusia and FCU.

>Land Battleships
Are amphibious, you even see some of the land Aegises on water in one of the missions.

>Tunnel Guys
I was a bit disappointed nothing more came from that for how big part of a story it was.

>>583787138
>Supernatural
I agree, I don't want them to introduce supernatural shit. My headcanon is that Cope is a coping mechanism for Rex after being shot down by shadows.

>Avoid the radar mission
I also thought it was weak but not because of the plane. I just think flying through canyons is cooler than flying through digital bubbles.

>Squad
Agreed with pretty much all you said.

The war "starts" by Sotoa invading the FCU for Lebensraum. They felt threatened by having Yuktobania relatively close to them, overly industrialized and militarized to the point of their country turning into a desert, lost the war they were preparing for (we don't know who started it) and now their country is practically destroyed from desertification. They attack the FCU because it's 1: in Usea, which is still reeling from the Lighthouse War and foreign intervention (i.e. Yuktobania) is unlikely there and 2: because the FCU is basically just pretending to be a country, yet controls a lot of territory.
Enso Order simply helps bankrolling their war effort and convinced the leadership to pull the trigger.
Before (you) got involved, things were absolutely bleak. Sotoa attacked in July 2029 and completely steamrolled the FCU. Theve was lost 2 months into the invasion. Rex flies for the first time on November 1st 2029.
Important distinction: the Sotoans aren't epic warrior nomads, they're by and large hypocritical larpers pretending to be, with their leadership trying to create and imbue them with this warrior myth.
Their extreme brutality isn't really explained, they likely expected to steamroll FCU without too much resistance or foreign intervention and nobody finding out I suppose.

>Are land battleships amphibious?
Yes, all the land ship classes are amphibious. Why do they ferry the third one to Usea by Podarge instead of assembling it in Fatsia? Don't think too hard about it. Maybe it's faster.

The Heart of Darkness tunnel gremlins under Fort Gray's Air Base were absurd.
>Nah, the schizo garrison was fucking hilarious. They fit in perfectly with the overarching themes of propaganda, deception and misinformation too.

>AWACS
He had his moments but overall, I think he lacked a bit of character.

>DD
He was cringe but it didn't seem out of place in an ace combat game. The question is, what did he mean by "The wings is real, and so am I."

>M28
Wasn't a huge fan of the presentation of this mission either. It might've been better spread into several missions desu with how much they've packed into it.

>Tungsten Rods
These aren't nukes. Realistically, they wouldn't be stronger than the Beirut explosion, and while that did have plenty of casualties, I think it's in line with what the game presents. Even in game, in M29, a rod on the Enso complex that's right next to Theve basically has no effect on the rest of the city. It's only a serious danger if it lands on a nuclear reactor and triggers a nuclear explosion. They're essentially just a big cruise missle that can't be intercepted once fired.

>Lux Lunae
I only really struggled with the 22nd, I don't think the previous ones were much above the level of just a regular enemy reinforcement.

>No canyon or tunnel
This is what I mean when I say they tried to make the game more accessible to newbies.
>>
>>583781920
That's just her, just like Baxter, seeing Cope as they're about to enter the pilot valhalla afterlife howeverbeit
>>

Sotoa might've used an excuse of liberating people from FCU as well, since there are talks about people wanting independence and not committing to FCU being traitorous behaviour.
>>
>>583792194
>The question is, what did he mean by "The wings is real, and so am I."
Spent the entire game peddling a bullshit Wings just to have something tangible and real to show by the end. It's kinda abrupt and very Japanese but I do get it. On top of just generally being a weird autistic nepobaby that finally started going his own route
>>
>>583791931
This is false, read aces at war and pay attention to the game. They don't JUST attack, ENSO don't JUST get involved post war breakout. And usea isn't JUST reeling from the lighthouse war. Don't bring up larping if you're going to larp about lore yourself.
>>
>>583792378
They could have gone a bit harder with that maybe, show the FCU basically considered a fake-ass country with bullshit propaganda like the Wings of Theve and Enso Order machinations propping it up, so constituent members or former members feel no reason to fight the Sotoans.
I think it would have been neat to have the separatists draw comparisons to ISAF but claim the FCU failed where ISAF didn't and it wasn't worth fighting an aggressor who doesn't seem to want their land specifically. Of course that falls apart when you realise the Sotoans just want Total Usean Death and likely do not give anything but the most superficial fuck about the divisions between the Useans beyond what can be exploited strategically.
>>
>>583792832
>show the FCU basically considered a fake-ass country
Like 30 minutes into the game you have someone declaring the FCU dead and asking which republic you belong to

Do they ever point out who were the die-hard FCU supporting nations in Usea? We kind of only hear about the ones that less loyal because uh well they're trying to separate so they have a more clear identity beyond the FCU (San Salvacion (well neutral country) and Southern Waiapolo.

Why is every person on the internet who records their ace combat gameplay actually retarded? I just got an Instagram reel of someone playing Anchorhead Raid from 7 and most of the ground harbor targets were still up including high value ones, and the man was using the F-15 with pulse lasers. He then proceeded to just fly in a straight line and the caption was >oooo too hard goo ga boo ba

I wonder what the FCU did to piss them off so much.
Maybe hastily put together by Enso Order money/Osean backing after the Lighthouse War which means people resent it for being a very artificial union?
Like imagine if the EU got set up in 10 years rapidly, it would piss off a lot of people.
Reading Aces at War to find out.
It's funny how restrained the amount of worldbuilding narrative stuff there is in the actual campaign of Ace Combat games. Project Aces just have very refined and directed autism. You don't get to sketching out the Patches of military units you see exactly once, or the records of downed aces without having autism for it. It's just the game doesn't really lore dump you so flagrantly.
>>
>>583794687
You get a fixed 100 xp per game and max rank needs 25000 xp=250 games, so no you didn't.
>>
>>583794030
I've noticed that this is a recurring theme in the series, where the antagonists really don't have the manpower to fully occupy these vast swathes of land and instead use area denial tactics via their resident superweapons.
>Stonehenge
>Aigaion
>Arsenal Birds plus drone spam
>Land Battleships and Spears
Whenever any of these are taken off the board, huge chunks of the continent turn blue in a matter of days. The enemy occupation is essentially hollow.

Nothing in AC3 matters other than the message of computer/engineered human spirit is an awful future. Everything you as the player interact with is part of a simulation, yes, so nothing inside the game can be trusted but that doesn't mean the message doesn't matter or has no value and especially when it contrasts AC8's ending of natural human spirit.
So basically, don't worry about how X should have happened by Y year according to AC3 but the game still has value.

the eye and eyebag tech is pretty good in ac8. Kate looks like she hasn't slept a proper nights sleep in months but still projects an air of dignity and professionalism.

Only a few times did it seem like I was being stared at by soulless homonculi.
Baxter dying got me fucked up, you could see how bloodshot his eyes were and how purple his lips were getting from lack of oxygen/blood. This might sound dumb but it seemed really realistic? Did they have the modellers look at what a dying man looks like to get the details right, or maybe they just had reference materials from other media. Maybe because of the implication Rex and Baxter are the team dads, so
Tasha and Coster feel like the 'kids' even though at youngest Tasha is probably like 19. Coster looks older than he is because he's gone hard into the gig-going aesthetic early. Probably has more of a baby face if you shave the beard off.
honestly I wasn't attracted to Tasha, I was more invested in her development along with Coster. I like all the wingmen though.

Also Kate's nape of her neck tattoo and seemingly noticeable breasts help. She's not even heavily eroticised but yeah she's a very attractive woman even in the circumstances she finds herself in, >>583796817 like so.
Without clearly being too much of a never-marred waifu character.

Time to ask the real questions: Is Tasha's mom hot?
I admit I laughed when I saw how much of 'age 40s-50s' masculine actor man (think like a guy you would see in Yakuza) Tasha's dad looks like. Even in Strangereal where Japan does not exist you must have a conspicuous halfu.

>>
>>583800102
Flying city in the sky that falls in parts as you shoot down bits of it (that's kind of just a flying wing fight i know).
Evolving plane that has several phases that fight completely differently because each time it changes it switches weapons (kind of the ejecting planes but more phases)
Gigantic underground base that you enter through missile silos that open and close over time. I'm surprised Avalon was the only one of its kind.

I think I realised why I like the absurd super-weapons/tech in Ace Combat.
They're insane solutions to real problems.
Meteor shower? Stone Henge Railguns/Megalith etc.
Lack of good territory for manufacture/military bases because of desertification: Megafloats
They're absurd, but at least they try to be a little bit grounded in the setting if that makes sense.
For the most part that is.

It's the best take on the single-squad antagonist yet, the fact that they are tiered between double and triple digits makes them not lose their aura when you shoot them down early in the game unlike Strigons for example
And you still get some named squads even if all of them except for Ventus (based boomers) are total jobbers

Yeah, eight players are way too many. Every once in a while the game decides to give me four player games and it's way more fun. There are enough targets for everyone so we spread out and kill shit and have a good time. But then it ends and it's back to eight people with everyone stealing kills and the round ending with two minutes left and it sucks.
I want more missions where I have to try hard and end with 3 seconds left.

Overall very good game. Some annoyances with strategic logic but nothing that breaks the story.

Tasha is fine, but at the end of the day there is really nothing you can even squint at to establish something more between Tasha and Rex and she has way more going on with Coster. Early on it's established that Baxter and Rex are the older dudes looking after the younger members of their squad.
Kate easily slides into the replacement slot for Baxter where it goes from Baxter and Rex looking after Joker as 2 dads to Kate coming in and it becoming a mom and a dad
People from the get-go also read into the subtext that Kate is part of a squad called Queen while Rex is literally a King and they later come together to form King 1.
Kate is also a professional, but doesn't come off as an hard-ass and is still very attractive in a more down to earth kind of way.
Long story short Kate is a character that Western devs could never make.

It needs to be a two-seater. A mig25 or a mig31 for the speed, and give me a cave system we have to fly through for the insane maneuvers.
USEA and San Salvacion have this south american vibe on some parts, so give us cenotes and other underground formations.
It would have been a banger "tunnel" run, especially with the copilot squealing in the back.
It also leaves space for an enemy squadron following you and talking to you as you go above and under ground.

It has high highs and some lows. Excellent OST, gameplay long codified, established setting that may fly overhear the first time.

I guess it helps that a friend of mine is a long time /aceg/ regular who knew how to sell me on it. I don't step in here too often since I generally just beat a game and move on until it's time for the next one, but I've certainly enjoyed my time with the series so far.

i've been playing the multiplayer quite a bit
pvp seems like pure nigg slop with a handful of meta planes you need to use and grind exclusively to do well in dogfights
pve is more fun, but pretty luck based

LAAM seems to be broken OP in pve. I bought the typhoon and have not gotten below 30k on a mission with a decent amount of aerial units

I've been trying to use the unguided rocket pods on the A-10 but they seem pretty shit. they do very low damage to ships, and the unguided bombs seem universally better, but I might be using them wrong and can't find any info to confirm this

The only rocket plane worth a shit is the SU-33 because it can actually reach the targets in the time
Also it has leading edge control surfaces as well as an onboard toilet so it can PSM while your copilot is theoretically shitting
>>
>>583824851
Ah fuck I went full jeet
Also I confused the 34's toilet with the 33's rockets

>>
>>583824851
ok i thought so. the A-10 in general seems pretty shit since all that matters with planes is range, speed at which you can reach targets, and the special weapons. 4AGM is ok but weaker than alternatives, it seems, and the unguided bombs are good as long as some nigg in a better plane isn't competing with you

I've still managed to drop some nice 45k+ games with my A-10, so it is fun :D
>>

Do I go full 20 on planes I don't particularly care much about or is 15 enough? The gold schematics seem rare and precious.
I'm asking because the only plane on the tree I want to use all the time is the F-14D; attacker and mudroles just don't have anything to my interest, but I still want to have at least one of each for various missions/if someone picks the fighter role first.

Yes. Rest of the game was fine but I'm not good enough at aiming to keep the Phantom's nose on long enough in that mission, I got by fine dumping HVAAs into it though. But since wingmen don't count you could also just cheese it by giving everyone super planes, I guess.

The cargo was in a hardened container to survive the blast and they blew up the plane to cover up the delivery. It’s not entirely clear how much of this was known by whom, Enso arranged the delivery and also knew about (you) so it’s possible they intended for you to escort it in, but I think it’s more likely they expected the detonation to kill the rebel pilots as well, so there’d be no witnesses, and then the Sotoans would collect the cargo from the wreckage. Otherwise why would they deliver it using an “enemy” transport that the Sotoan regulars would almost certainly shoot down? Instead they had two mysterious planes show up and escort the transport in, and so the Sotoans got curious and went looking for (you) on their way to pick up the cargo.

But yeah this is all delivered in like two or three lines of dialogue in the secret voice recordings DD plays at the end of the game, and they don’t really make it explicit what they’re talking about, I don’t blame you at all for missing that lol.

It's missing features like player hosted lobbies with customizable rulesets like point limits and weapon restrictions, the ability to keep playing with the same players in a lobby, difficulty settings, etc. It also doesn't have the aircraft/upgrade tree like ACI, 7's multiplayer, or 8's campaign instead opting for an obtuse and obnoxious store as well as 'hiding' plane upgrades in the loadout menu with a wierd keybind. There's also just a severe lack of mission variety and boss fights. The boss fights also just don't happen frequently enough. It's still fun, but ACI did everything better.

Fuck me, why is there so much fucking chatter in these missions?! People never shut up! I just did 'Retaking of Theve II' and I couldn't believe how ridiculous it got, with multiple people all talking over one another. You have your squadron, the ground forces, enemy forces, civilian radio. Then they start piping in chatter from another battle!

This campaign so far... I dunno. I like elements of it, but it's all just so busy. Too many parts, like it's trying too hard. Am I alone in missing the simplicity of the older games? Ace Combat 4 had such a focused and clean story. Is it not possible to go back to that style? Perhaps it would be too boring.

But it feels like each game has to introduce more personal drama than the last. As though they don't think a massive international conflict could be interesting enough on it's own.

Yeah it doesn’t make a ton of sense, but that’s what it is. The X-40 is probably too fucking big to fit in a C-130 anyway, especially in some kind of blast proof container, even mostly disassembled. IIRC they don’t say exactly what the cargo was though, so it’s not necessarily the whole plane, maybe it’s just components for the neural link system or whatever.
