The kouhai's a new hire from a rather poor background directly caused by the war that she's taken under her wing and has been directly showing the ropes to. I'm probably going to have their company get caught up in political machinations or otherwise framed for some sort of conspiracy due to the nature of their service (or perhaps they actually are planning some sort of coup with rebels or whatever in order to avoid a wider continetal war as the government of not-france is sliding into a highly corrupt and revanchist cult of personality dictatorship under a president not-napoleon iii figure and his cronies), and will have some sort of surprise siege against them and a subsequent last stand while the pair are out on a job delivering a letter of great import. That's still all relatively floating ideas though so I'm not so sure.
