People don't talk about multilink enough. Reviewers described it as switching routers based on connection quality and I don't think that's right. I think it's both sources sending out the same packets and whichever packet arrives first is used. You get the lowest latency of two packets in a race and a backup if one is lost. The bandwidth that's possible should be insane. You can crank bandwidth to what your routers can barely manage but as long as both packets rarely shit the bed it's gold. I wish you could multilink with two routers instead of dongle + router. The dongle sucks and valve only lets it do 250.

My Steam Frame's displays don't ever seem to shut off after taking off the headset. All the software settings say it should turn off the screen like 5 seconds after the sensor doesn't detect I'm wearing the headset anymore, but it doesn't.Not sure if my presence sensor is just fucked up or if it's just yet another ""normal"" Steam Frame software issue that other people experience.

Some things I learned about foveated streaming on steam VR:1) The foveated size is not relative or a % but absolute, so if you raise or lower the resolution you have to adjust the foveation size to get the same screen area. 2) When you show the debug with darkened peripheral, that size is different in with the menu up than when you close the menu. Close the menu to see the real size and if you are ok with it.3) The foveated area has some prediction and moves when you turn your head. I think this is bad but what do I know. But don't test the foveation by looking at a fixed point and turning your head, it's particularly bad in that case and valve doesn't seem to expect people will do this.4) I didn't learn this until recently and someone can tell me if I'm wrong, but I thought VR wireless video was transmitting the native resolution of the panels or less after being downsampled from the raw pixels (usually super sampled to preserve detail through barrel distortion). But apparently encoded video is super sampled too, probably because details don't survive compression if you just use native res.5) If you can catch the foveation easily by switching between two distant points you may have latency issues. To some degree you will be able to see it for an instant if you are looking for it, but sometimes its just outright slow and distracting. To improve this:- Use multilink and your dongle and router in ideal conditions. If you have latency under 10ms from either wireless source 99% I think that's as good as you can do as far as I know.- Turning down the game res or foveation size doesn't reduce the bitrate so there's the same amount of data to decode, so I don't think latency will be improved.- Turning down the bitrate from 250mbs doesn't help latency that much, and it actually makes foveated streaming easier to notice because the peripheral and late eye tracking looks like garbage. And just looks like shit in general defeating the purpose.comment too long
