He was a vague symbol that served a function.Sonic from the beginning was a thought out concept, character and premise and even had themes and a unique gameplay hook and appeal to brand itself from the start.The issues Sonic faces with brand management have little to do with him being "a product of his time" and has more to do with poor support from the parent company and general mismanagement.There isn't anything about Sonic that is struck in a particular time.It always just feel like a 90sfag cope when I hear this because the western marketing for Sonic at the time and the depiction of him in things like the cartoons and comics were in fact stuck in that time.
