So from what we know so far about how they'll be handling horizontal progression is essentially relying on gambling to keep people playing. Each raid will have some extremely rare drops that will be stronger than other items. So to achieve true BIS you will need to get a 1% item to drop and win the roll. The devs are hoping these keeps people running each raid every week... forever.I fear most players will get their non-ultrarare bis items then get bored and quit.

People are just talking past each other about vertical and horizontal progression. The key word is "progression." The numbers will go up, the gear will be upgraded. They want to incentivize players who are ahead to continue doing older content so that players who are behind can find raids and get the initial gear necessary to progress to the newer content. It doesn't mean you wear Molten Core gear forever. Literally no one thinks thunderfury being so good that people used it to Kara in TBC was a fun design. It was frustrating, because it was too good, and the replacement was common and uninteresting but statistically sligghtly better. It's not about keeping gear forever in any content because you have an emotional attachment to it. That would be fucking retarded. The devs just described it very badly.

Having to actually hit grounding totem is fucking awful man. Sure I can just ignore that every 10 seconds one of my spells is going to get grounded (but i'm a paladin, my judgment is only 10 seconds cd haha!), but I want them to use mana to keep having to ground my shit and I don't want to keep a 10 second timer in my head.

It's worse as a reactive ability compared to Divine Grace (lower heal, only if goes below 35%, worse healing scaling probably). And if your target has 20% hp left, you use it, target dies from the next hit, it does nothing. If used non-reactively, it can just be wasted if your target doesn't go below 35% after all. I'm not even sure if it procs if your target is at 30% and then takes another hit, or if it needs to go down from say 40% to 30%. If it doesn't, it's even worse. It's something that sounds good at first glance but when you look at it closely, it falls apart because it's too situational.
