Right now the MTLing community is mostly honest about the fact they are MTLing: Aisir doesn't hide it, MAO doesn't hide it, Flood doesn't hide it, Schwarz anon doesn't hide it, blah blah. It's because of their honesty in this regard that there are even MTL arguments at all. But the moment people stop being honest, suddenly it will be impossible to tell whether something is MTL anon - both for amateurs AND professionals.That is the thing I keep saying that I don't think people understand. MTL has almost no overt markers. It is too accurate and fluent; in the past you identified MTL by it being inaccurate or reading like shit, but now MTL is human-level accurate and fluent. There are still instances of weirdness or bad translation, but humans also sometimes fuck up or do something weird, so it's not a smoking gun. For example, if MAO pretended to be a human translation group, how exactly would Oretsuba be identified as an MTL? Would the 顔謝 translation that got like 30 posts of debate on VNDB would be weird, but not a smoking gun at all, it would just be a poor translation. Same for stuff like inconsistent terminology - humans mix stuff up all the time. If someone seriously wanted to hide MTL use, how would they get caught? This extends to publishers. A translation project manager has NO WAY to know if their translators are using MTL or not. If the translator is even a little savvy (e.g. not magically turning in a full vinnie TL in a single day), how will they get caught? Their TLs will read well. It won't have many mistakes. What the fuck can the translation PM do to stop it? And when it reaches the public, how will they even know? AI writing tools like Pangram fail especially hard on translation since AI tells are muffled behind the noise of translating a human's words.
