Sorry if this is off-topic, but with the AI announcement from Tim Sweeney saying that they are moving to an AI-focused workflow for both development and art, last thread mentioned the recent AI video game decompilation and modding that has been happening recently, and it took me down a rabbit hole of being both impressed and depressed, and I want to type it out and vent.I'm what you would call an entry-level developer, and it seems that at the rate AI is going, 99% of all developers will not have a job in say 15 years. There will be only glue developers that are prompting AI, and perhaps not even that since AI can just prompt itself nowadays in a feedback loop. Claude can even commit things in git, which I didn't know it could do and really drove the point home for me. So I just wasted years of schooling on something that is going to be worthless in a decade. Cool. I'm super lucky to have been picked up as an intern, but no one is hiring right now in computer science/development at all because, understandably, AI can do this stuff so much faster and better than any human. It would take me years to learn decompilation techniques and mod Modern Warfare 2 mechanics into Minecraft, but it takes a few days for Claude to do it and it's nearly perfect. So there is no place for an entry-level developer like me in the workforce, and there likely never will be, because anybody can do what I spent years being taught how to do. And that's just so disheartening and blackpilling that I feel raw despair inside. It's like you grow up learning the art of basket weaving, and then the industrial revolution comes around and suddenly there's a factory down the road that creates 1000 baskets per day and they're all better than the basket you learned to make and they're better and sturdier than yours and also they're sold for $0.03 when you charge $5 per basket.
