I think when people talk about gearing their character and wanting that gear to stay relevant for a long time they specifically mean raid gear. It doesn't take too long to get pre bis in dungeon gear since you can farm it over and over, raid gear is the stuff with hard time lock outs. Raid gear is the stuff with the more serious time investment that can take months to get.We're also most likely only getting new max level raids and no new max level dungeons after launch.I don't think we're getting "horizontal progression" as much as vertical progression without the numbers going insane like how naxx gear ended up being with eventual "resets" to keep that from ever happening. But those resets will mean that gear you farmed will still be good like your prebis or MC gear which also means those old raids are still worth doing since if we get ilevel resets it just means its all set to the same level again.

Ι say this as someone who did 1-30 Turtle then quit (because no mage aoe fun) and 1 -30 Forever. Turtle offered an insanely better Classic+ experience. Its not even remotely close but to be fair they did have way more time than Blizzard.

GW2 introduced the Ascended equipment tier with fractals before even adding their first expansion, and has never increased the power of their equipment since. It is an undeniable example of horizontal progression that you claim can't possibly exist. They add new class specs which broaden how you can play a class, but even with that there are some base classes that still see play in PvP/WvW.I pity you people. Not only do you lack the imagination to even consider that there could be a different way of the game working, you seem actively hostile to the very idea, like it somehow brings you pain to even consider it.Everyone just wants to gobble up more raid tier into stat squash slop just like wow has always been, you can't even fathom it being something else.

But the main problem is the level homogeneity in every WoW region. If every regions were more heterogeneous like having a 15-25 part and also a 40-50 part, those region should be less empty after the initial rush and that will make it easier to help lower levels.
