I’ve been thinking about getting into Tekken 8 after seeing how hyped the game was at EVO France 2026. The atmosphere looked incredible, and it made me want to give Tekken a serious try. The problem is that I have absolutely no idea where to start!

Rollback netcode cannot move forward.. no coding in the world can make what we have somehow better. You'd have to break physics to make it somehow better.
The basic idea of rollback is that we roll the game state back to a previous state when packets misalign cause of delay. We hide that rollback behind delay frames so the player doesn't notice.
In that sense, games seen as having good rollback like SF6, and games seen as having bad rollback like Tekken, are the exact same thing. There is no miracle code in sf that makes it better, it's the exact same thing.
The reason people call ours "bad" is because it is more visible. The reason for that is not ours actually being bad, the reason is that SF6 is lying to you, pretending it didn't roll the game state back.
SF has its hit and block animations, sounds, effects, etc. on a different pipeline in the engine and delays them by 1-2 frames so that when the game rolls the state back, the whole hit thingy never was shown to the user even tho the game registered the hit. That way, you hit, nothing actually happens yet, the game rolls back 1 frame, now the animations and effects are adjusted for the now blocked state and you never knew the game rolled back.
Tekken does everything on the same frame, that's why when you hit, you see the getting hit animation, the spark, the damage number, the lifebar change, and it rolls back all of that.
But the rollback is completely the same.
One game simply lying to you and acts like it was your error, not the connection's error. The other game tells you "welp, don't accept wifi warriors, bro".
There is no improving this system. It's not possible. You either choose smooth lies or hard truths.
