Been a few years since I touched XIV but there's tons of stuff you can do: side stories everywhere (some fetch quests, but actual stories with world building and characters to learn about), beast tribes for cosmetic collecting, minigames out the whazoo (seriously, a fucking load of them), 13+ years of instanced content you can go do for fun or the cosmetics (or for relic weapons, sometimes), etc. Obviously it's a brand new game but there's very little content in the game. Take out the combat. Now how much exactly is there to do? Ask yourself that. There's a galaxy-sized differential.

I completely understand why that killed the game, though.Personally I don't mind Aion 2 being on the far easier side, but seeing as how there are so many "tiers" of content -- exploration, conquest, transcendence, multiple higher stages of transcendence (with leaderboards), and then raids -- I wish there was a bigger distinction and variance in difficulty. I don't see the point having so many different ways to just say "dungeon" when they're all roughly the same difficulty and serve no real purpose.

As a new player in 1/2 (especially 1) you won't need more than what the game provides you until easily 100+ hours in anyways, and GGG often runs weekend sales where you can get all the stash tabs you'll ever need for like 20-30 bucks. Not to mention how GGG monetizes founder's packs. When PoE2 launched into EA I got the $80 pack which gave me a hoodie, the game, tons of in-game cosmetics (idc about this shit but still), AND also gave my $80 worth of in-game currency that I STILL have some of to buy future stash tabs with (not that I am wanting for any as a beta poe1 player). GGG gets unfairly shit on for their monetization. They provide some of the best deals and craziest f2p content drops I've ever seen in the history of gaming.

Trust me, I get the sentiment I do, and it's fair if you just don't like the style of raiding that game provides, but eh, I would not describe the game like that at all. I don't particularly care about flashiness either myself, but I really like strong class identities and skill expression too. That's why I loved Lost Ark. Flashiness is just one aspect of the identity of something; the bare minimum I might add. That's where I feel Aion 2 falls short the worst. Classes look like a mess because of the macro and powercreep, all play very similarly because of the macro, and there's very little skill expression (narrow differential between floor:ceiling) because of macro. I feel the macro alone encompasses so many of my problems. It's a shame.

I get the complaint that FFXIV jobs all play in a linear sort of "there is only one way to play this class and you always press the buttons in this order" kinda way, but in hard raids it doesn't actually end up working that way since you have to dodge/deal with mechanics, adds, phase changes/transitions, etc. I played SMN for the longest time, for example, with very long 2-3 minute rotation build-ups that required extensive shifts in what buttons I pressed based on if a boss was going invuln or if I had to move a lot, etc etc. There's a lot of micro decision making going on in that game that I feel you don't give it credit for, or maybe didn't properly experience. Although I'm a bit biased and we're on opposite end of the spectrums here. You dipped your toes in and barely touched 1 tier; I raid lead and was a 95th+ percentile player for like 5-6 years straight. So obviously we'd feel differently. But I feel your description to be wholly inaccurate. I *wish* people could master their rotations in that game in an hour or my PUG experiences wouldn't have been so brutal.
