Vibe coded gaming.
I was expecting it to crash often but alas it happens rarely.

I had zero issues playing the entire trilogy + IV last year.
The only fix I used for those is the enhanced modpack from the steam guide game's page.

https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/AMDGPU#MCLK_(pp_dpm_mclk)_being_locked_at_MAX_(875Mhz_or_1000Mhz)_or_MIN_(96Mhz)
https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/drm/amd/-/work_items/1403
Found the cause. Considering the number of reports recently, it must have become more sensitive. I have been playing on a new monitor that I haven't done any heavy gaming on before this since I usually game on a large TV, so it makes sense.

To fix it, I used CRU on Windows to create a DisplayID 2.0 extension block, then added a 220 Hz CVT-RB2 detailed resolution. I also added a 215.784 option while I was there for TV/movies. While I could have done 240 and 239.760, horizontal frequency goes higher than what the display is rated for and I'm too lazy to test for frame skipping. The display is not an OLED so 220 is closer to the max supported by the response times anyway.

If any of you run in to this issue and need to do the same but want to use the same refresh rate like 240, make sure you remove the existing 240 or Linux will always pick it even if you explicitly set it.

sudo tee /sys/kernel/debug/dri/0/DP-1/edid_override < DISPLAY_XYZ.bin >/dev/null && echo 1 | sudo tee /sys/kernel/debug/dri/0/DP-1/trigger_hotplug >/dev/null
Example of how to use EDID override to test it
printf reset | sudo tee /sys/kernel/debug/dri/0/DP-1/edid_override >/dev/null && printf 1 | sudo tee /sys/kernel/debug/dri/0/DP-1/trigger_hotplug >/dev/null
Example of how to undo the override
cat /sys/kernel/debug/dri/0/state | grep 'mode'
Used this to check pixel clocks were correct for the new refresh rate
drm.edid_firmware=DP-1:edid/DISPLAY_XYZ.bin
Example kernel parameter to load the custom EDID from /usr/lib/firmware/edid/

Trying to get persona 4 golden to work. It works generally fine out the box but its very luck of the draw.
Biggest issue I got is that the game plays in the English dub (which I want), but then the cutscenes play in Japanese - Aside for the very first spoken cutscene. Oddest part is anyone who had a similar problem always wanted it the other way around
Second issue is that any option that isn't in the .ini file gets forgotten about in the next boot. I presume I'll have to manually write them in but no clue what the names would be, so I'll just correct that every boot.

That's it for Dimension of the Machine. This expansion was really great, Arcane Dimensions tier if not better. 10/10

Some OEMs set bad non-standard modelines, likely to workaround the limits of the display. Good mid-end monitors or better aren't likely to be affected.

>>584431639
https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/drm/amd/-/work_items/1403#note_2011641
An alternative to fix this is mentioned here but I haven't tried it. I did notice the OEM's 240 wasn't exactly 240 during my investigation.
>>
>>584441132
>confusing
maybe I am, because I've read somewhere that you need to play one of the expacs twice to get the true ending

Tiablyat was the first boss in SOPFFO where I actually had to stop button mashing. In all action games, I default to dodging instead of parries and blocks but dodging is so bad in this game unless you use it to change distance instead of actually dodging. She two shots you and it's a long fight so I just switched to magic and soul shield which made it a joke. Soul shield is so busted, like, why even parry or dodge.

I still have not once used an ability or looked at the skill trees except for unlocking new jobs. I thought this would be an easier Nioh but even hard difficulty is a joke :(

>Do I have to keep my machine configured to meet these requirements all the time if I only play protected games sometimes?
>No. EAC Linux v2 checks these requirements when you start an anti-cheat protected online game. You can maintain a separate boot entry with the required kernel and command line, and select that entry when you want to play a protected game.

9800X3D is capable of running Quake 1 software rendering (lavapipe) in 1080p at 40 fps. Although it almost melted my CPU.

Only GPU translation is using shadps4 code, CPU code is native.
