What all does Unreal have that Godot doesn't, short of raytracing and Nanite? Assume that someone forked Godot, tore everything out but webGPU native, used the Meshlet port for nanite like they ported from three.js, and ported in the path tracing denoiser for meshlets. What else would be needed for Godot to catch up to Unreal?
AI is only a problem for game developers because of steam. Partly because they artificially limit the number of promoted games to 400, making it so no matter what genre your game is in you're competing with every single game on steam, but also because there's no where to escape the AI slop.-AI art hasn't negatively impacted artists as much as it will game developers because artists have their own sites that don't allow AI and art sites aren't run by lazy, greedy retards that limit the number of visible things to 400 for literally no reason.

You see back in May, they added Meshlets, a Nanite likely system that could render tens of millions of triangles. Shortly after a Godot user ported it to Godot webGPU and it was already more powerful than anything Godot had. The problem of course is webGPU has no hardware accelerated path tracing as it's inherently safe. Well 5 months later a man has been making rapid progress adding compute shaders path tracers to three.js with his own meshlets that takes advantage of the system to not need hardware acceleration and has been making rapid progress in less than a month. He'll likely be done before the year is even over. And of course if he finishes the Godot users can likely reference and port it there as well.

More progress!Does are animated and now in game, they react to friendly and enemy units.There are mushrooms! Fly agarics in the forests and white dapperlings on meadows and they sometimes form fairy rings. There are also docks, ferns and woodpeckers now sit properly on trees.When it comes to gameplay, there's a bunch of static neutral enemy camps to make the map more hostile, gonna add bears and roaming packs of wolves next.Fog of war doesn't get cleared based on wave/day as before but in a more traditional way through exploration. There's several enemy towns that send scouts and small formations to harass the player and once their location has been discovered they become aggressive and start sending full armies. There are also placeholder statues of blessing and sacrifice altars that don't really do anything yet other than putting a "you've received a blessing" on top of the screen.
