What’s better for VIII on PS2, 4:3 or 16:9? Also, what’s the difference between full and 16:9 in the system configuration? It looks like it just gets rid of the borders in the menu.

I've been subject to a lot of Japanese discourse about the HD-2D remakes and I'm surprised at how much they seem to be disliked. I know 3 isn't as good as the SNES version, but I thought 1 and 2 were more than unique enough to stand alone as fun experiences.

Well 1 is a simple side grade with cringe oc shit thrown in and 2 has some of the worst dialogue the series has ever had and cutscenes every 15 minutes that are way too on the nose and in your face with what message they want you to walk away with. It’s forced shite and pissed me off the entire play through

I feel like they want you to use Swords in VIII and XI because they’re the iconic Hero weapon, but they fucked up and made all the sword abilities suck dick. Like Spears and Greatswords do something good in basically every situation, while Swords need a specific situation to do anything and are generally just boring to use. It’s not as bad in XI once you can do stuff like dual wield falcon blades, but it’s still a problem for a large chunk of the game.

Multithrust is way better than other shit you can get for Eighto that early but it doesn't keep up with the other characters attacks since the 4th hit is pretty unlikely to happen on a single target. Thunder Thrust is nice for metal slimes but not something you use much on bosses.
Until we get another 8 rerelease with draconian mode it ends up being plenty since boss HP in 8 really can't keep up with the bullshit Tension lets you get away with.

So is the Torneko game the only PS2 game that's left to translate?

Does tension only work on basic attacks and spells in 8? I tried using knuckle sandwich after building up tension but it just did normal damage.

There's a few that aren't affected by it like Blow Kiss and Needle Rain but they do almost no damage anyways. Dunno if Knuckle Sandwich is one since I completely ignore everything from Fisticuffs besides Thin Air.
Its possible he was hitting something with Strike resistance compared to damage to a non resistant enemy too

I'm having a good time with it, having finished the main story of version 1. Dancer seems like a good all-round class if one is playing solo mostly, though I feel like I'm not doing much other than spamming poison/sleep > persecutter/victimizer. How does the combat evolve at higher levels?

I think the high encounter rate in 6 will be good when I unlock the job system.
