I'm surprised how much resistance there is to Kressel. It's probably because of the framing. The actual meat (ha) of the theory is that Kris is the same kind of entity that the vessel would've been if it wasn't discarded. They're assembled from parts with the purpose of holding the player SOUL.

I was thinking about what Undertale/Deltarune has done that I've not seen in any other game/media and while I'm not the most well-read person the main things I could think of where the battle system (bullet "hell"/jrpg hybrid) and the concept of every chapter having a "secret boss" that usually ends up being more popular than the main one.
