Replaying the campaign I am really starting to get the impression there was a lot more squadron interactions planned post mission especially based on what they got up to during a mission. Mission 6 in particular makes it seem like you were meant to see Tasha and Coster getting a massive telling off post mission with as mission 7 dialogue had snippets of a post Kate encounter, notably Tasha commenting on how uneasy she made her feel with Coster making very uncomfortable noises when it was brought up. It didn't initially occur to me to simply spend a few more seconds flying away from the target so that I could turn around at a safe distance, have plenty of time to line up an attack run, and time to build up enough speed to stay safe.Honestly I think war thunder does a better job of teaching those lessons. We just have too much energy in aces. There's very little reason to care about the laws of physics in ace games, and the logic behind some maneuvers starts to fall apart in a universe where the planes can just pivot on their axis on a whim with a 700g high-g turn.

Now that I've messed with it a little I do still find the emblem system too limiting. You can do a decent enough skin layout but if you want tailcodes and a unit emblen you have to put them on opposite sides of the plane. Having alternating roundels for the wings is a cool option. I feel like it would be better if each sector had a canvas you could put at least a couple emblems on. I certainly didn't expect something like AC6's livery editor but it's disappointing even if it's leagues better than the previous games were. Hell we still can't imitate certain skins from the campaign properly either so the technology does exist, it's just barred from us because fuck you I guess.

Ammo stops being a problem if you just give up and rely on checkpoints, late game ground attack missions tended to be easier than late game air to air missions. I just figured I'd see how hard it makes the game on Ace after cheesing the gun only run in 7 on a low difficulty.

I'm almost done going through the game with JP audio and the JP VAs do a much better job. I don't think it's just because they're more talented, but they seem to have been given way better voice direction too. It's most noticeable with coster, tasha, seversky, and the fort grays commander from what I've seen so far. Coster had much more emotion in JP, whereas in EN he comes across as kinda autistic.The fort grays guy feels like a genuine psycho in his JP performance.Seversky talks in a kind of awkward manner in japanese with a bit of an accent, which makes sense since he's yuktobanian. You don't hear that at all in EN.Tasha especially has a way better VA. She comes across as way more of a naive kid in JP, while in EN she's just a bitch.I still think the EN voices fit the actual characters much better than the JP ones, I just wish they were given as good of a voice direction as the JP VAs.
