>Are mystery dungeon games allowed in this thread?
Generally yes, most mystery dungeon games(Shiren the Wanderer, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon, Etrian Mystery Dungeon, etc.) can be considered roguelikes
>Is Elin/Elona allowed?
Yes, they are roguelikes. Please do post your Little Sister farms.
>Is Dwarf Fortress allowed?
If it's adventure mode, yes. But adventure mode is boring. /tg/ has a general for fortress mode playthroughs, but you can share here too!

Alright, undocumented one between here and now. I explored for too long and met a Zombie unprepared. I had not met one prior. Island also had some snow that I didn't touch due to the swiftness of my demise. I've got two dripstones now though as I've quaffed the last of three freshwater tiles I've found. I'm going to keep my eyes peeled for metals to see if I can get enough for a still. "Green Shores" this one is called. I've gone around the main island mass, I believe. I don't think I've seen a cave entrance.

Absolutely mindless behavior
How about you play the game first and then figure out what *you* would like to change with mods
>>
>>585336673

>>
>>585335726
Play mostly vanilla for your first few runs. Especially dont use bandits mod yet, it completely changes how a lot of areas play. The rest are mostly fine but i still dont recommend heavy mods for first playthough.
Other than that, one issue advtech or advgear has bugs vehicle mechanics making it so you need an endgame item for basic metal sawing i think. Just debug spawn that tool in if it comes up and don't use it for anything else. Youll know when it comes up because its called nanite programmer or some shit

>>
>>585337458
Perfect, thank you. I was diving in and the fact that it had a bunch of mods pre-enabled and others pre-installed but not enabled with 0 documentation threw me, that lead to me looking for vanilla+ and QOL mods and it got away from me fast. That's mostly what I was aiming for, the mods that are "must haves" or whatnot.

>>
>>585338002
The pre-enabled mods can essentially be considered default behavior- Most of them are disabling features that the devs don't want to necessarily remove support for, but that most players don't like and aren't actively improved
(Leaving the system in overall means that someone could use vitamins via modding to do something interesting, conversely as well some people want to play with fungal spread and reviving zombies on)
That or being assets that technically belong to another repo (the tilesets, etc)
>>
>>585335726
Damn, haven't seen Secronom in a while. Is BL9 still playable?
Btw when do ferals appear? My last character lived through 1.5 seasons and the only encountered feral was hiding in a high-tec storage room of a military outpost. Although that bio operator feral was killed when I made another entrance with a dynamite. There were hulks already but none of ferals though. I think the civilians mod might have something to do with it. Do they evolve into ferals with time?

Speaking of, anons, which way would you go? I've gotten a handful of operatives unlocked but no new classes so I'm mostly sticking with Francs/Scout.
Only items so far are explosive 9mm and the SR-78 there.
I'm thinking of installing the military arm/controller for +1 range and +1 view, this loadout works fine for the moon so far and it's still early but...

Would y'all open any of these boxes fishing for anything in particular, or keep hoarding them till I can trade them in/spend on upgrades?
>>
>>585399273
man, not yet I can't it seems like. All these faggots want is food crates and water and alcohol still, with their fuckass 80% markup or whatever. Even if I do find some water it's like 20 points worth of trade value when I need like 400 to get doohickey for the monitoring station or whatever, it feels like clearly the devs want me looting missions (with hardly any idea which ones spawn what I want on what station, but hey, fuck me)
>>
I fucked around for too long trying to get all the classes and operators in quasimorph and now all the factions are at tech level 9 when I haven’t even unlocked implants yet. The only hard one to use is abacus. The rest are just: put in things that buff you permanently on pickup and do that every level. Like a lot of things in rift wizard though, the hard part is remembering that you even have the option to do that instead of making a +6 damage up or something.

if you have enough gunpowder, 7.97 ARs are pretty efficient, and I think the SR is the earliest one with the Collimator perk
dunno if they changed 9mm Ex to still require scarce gasoline or just double gunpowder, but that's also a way to go with SMGs
weapon cases can grant that burst SG and standard AR, but they can be super rare depending on your RNG and who you side with (I think it was Civil Res that always owns that Weapon/Armor Case station around Mars)
alcohol (and water packs) can be opened if you're heading to a Quasi zone early, just that a fully upgraded Ship recycler yields guaranteed + double vs. raw dismantling for everything, so it may be worth suffering for a couple hours until you rush that to max

normally I'd totally get it if the game had a system to hide their actions or disguise their true nature but by all accounts if we're going with this logic then the UI should show every mob as
"shit you should TAB to death for loot"

That said, I'm tapped out on missions on the Moon so I'm gonna have to see if Mars or Mercury/Venus look viable.

I've seen stuff like his-magnum.com/loot and I've played with item-intelligence a bit, yeah.
I only checked out the trade section so far, the loot tab is kind of mid. If I want a military unit it looks like I should try finding missions on Military type stations?

Well, thanks anons.
I guess I'll hold onto these goodie crates for now.
>>
>>585426004
>>585427473
I will add that the guy behind it(Renech) is notorious for genuinely *hating* the players and intentionally making changes so the game is more obnoxious to play, such as the previously mentioned item confiscation and PTSD, as well making so the player would burn like x1000 the baseline amount of calories while fighting, which was so absurd that people pointed out that the amount of body heat generated would lead to an outright heatstroke in the spam of like 20 seconds.

It wasn't how it was implemented at first, leading to numerous bugs, and even then it is absurd, since the first place where the player will experience that(the refugee center) have both an abundance of storage space *and* should quickly see the PC as a hero if you simple do a couple of quests for them.

So it isn't actually good, just that it shouldn't change things too much ergo who cares? Do I scavenge 3x gunpowder for 9mm HP rounds or 2x gunpowder 1x gasoline for explosive buckshot?
I've still got the Hydra-24 and the Storm TT I could shoot the 9mm in, as well as the Jeffhammer, Border FN-4 and Taiga for shotguns (iirc)
The +1 gun/vision range and +1 proj robot parts are going well- I'm considering calling down some gasoline and bullets in a capsule and hauling out as much Frag-12 (explosive shot) as I can, so I can use the Jeffhammer as a meme room clearer for high evasion targets (Not that I don't have a Shaker I never bring with me...). Anyone remember that survival rougelike? I played it years ago. It was more realistic than CDDA. I don't remember if it had seasons. It also only had one Z level at the time. >Triffids are super advanced aliens that outmog anything that isn't the Blob, so they, uhm, try to kill you with sticks or something.

>Exodii are serious interdimensional refugees that are meant to warn you about the threat of the Blob, hence why their flagship character is a cyborg with an incompressible scottish accent that lives in a castle and carries around a pink rifle and sells you flashlights you surgically affix to your head for trans flags.
>The Cataclysm was literally a bunch of ghosts showing up and spooking everyone to death, the riots/monsters/zombie apocalypse was merely incidental.
The only faction that haven't been raped to death is the Mi-go, which just want to vivisect you for the shits, and the Mycus, which wants to make everyone join its hivemind.

of note there's a starwars variant
and a touhou variant

if you want inspiration as to what a cyberpunk variant might look like.

For example, the one that includes star wars shit has light sabers that level up and alien races that have multiple arms and the like, with you having to balance between light and dark side.
https://www.roguebasin.com/index.php/FuryBand

Touhou variant is Gensouband and it adds a shitload of stuff:
- difficulty levels (easy to lunatic + extra)
- playing as PCs from touhou games with themeatic versions of their skills and playstyles (e.g. Reimu has a donation box and gets powered up by donations, these last between runs; Clownpiece is very strong but has 30000 HP and can never heal, etc)
- Some card collecting minigame thing

https://github.com/Cryomaniac13/hengband-touhou-katteban-en

Touhou variant is Japanese so, explains the autism

Of course Frogcomposband has shit like playing as an golem/android (so your level is the value of the gear you have equipped), blue mages (so you learn shit based on enemies casting magic at/around you), or playing as a sentient cursed ring (so you have to eat other rings to gain abilities while brainwashing some poor adventurer idiot to put you on) or even as a fucking dragon (no armor slots but shitload of rings and you get a breath attack ... and grow into bigger dragons).

I don't know if you mean generic Cyberpunk (e.g., a cybernetics system on top of armor, scifi weapons) or if you mean specifically the Cyberpunk TTRPG themed, but ICE suggests the latter. I don't know enough about it but you could aim for the 4 tabletop classes and implement them accordingly via special abilities, access to ICE implemented as pseudo-spellbooks, etc. There's a reporter and a musician class and those could be more pet focused or what have you IIRC? Then maybe branch out to some of the start types (race equivalent) or gangs (race or class or even monster play equivalent)?

Nothing can really make DDA difficult, only varying degrees of tedious. This is due to the open world infinite resources no time limit nature of it.
You can try fucking with the worldgen settings. Make guns and ammo rarer, make zombie evolution faster, slow down crafting speed, etc.
>>

I'M A WEIRDOOOOOOO
>>
>>585561447
Yeah, realistically, living 90% innawoods you can fabricate yourself up to like level 7~ish, get a solid set of armor and a good set of weapons- Archery or Throwing, hell, even a pneumatic assault rifle isn't out of your reach with (basically) 80% metal scrap and a few electronics scavenged from the edge of town.

It takes a long time, so the only real pressure is starvation- Cut down on food availability and you have to spend more time scavenging early on, which is harder because you've allocated less time to making good gear, but that just pushes you towards farming faster. Lack of enemies once you've got a spot set up to farm and craft in? So you turn on the notoriously buggy wandering hordes and get utterly swarmed, occasionally wake up to 300 strong crowd of zombies and even then it just means you have to hole up somewhere and defend yourself every once in a while.

Most of Cataclysm's charm is in figuring out how to survive- Much like Path of Achra or Rift Wizard, once you have a genuinely viable build in mind it's just about committing to an effective path of action. Cataclysm derives even more of its enjoyment than those two out of the exploration of mechanics and available items, imo

No discussions ever opened. No PR or issue mentions ontological bandits, ever, except this one. Searching the Discord shows 4 total incidences ever: One person using the phrase twice (once 3.5 years ago and 1 year after that) and then a person claiming that ontological bandits are as unrealistic as No Hope's artificial scarcity, and someone laughing at the phrase.

That's it. The sum total "conversation" about fucking ontological bandits.
That's it. The only point of contention ever truly raised, the only context we ever will have for what an ontological bandit is and why it's good or bad, is one they/them oldfag insisting that even if someone screams that they're gonna kill you and the game marks them as bandits and describes them as bandits that will kill you on sight who can't be negotiated with that YOU don't KNOW that they're bandits and so YOU should SUFFER the ENDLESS MORALE PENALTY FROM HELL for KILLING INNOCENTS.

Leaving zero room to argue with a frankly absurd and disingenuous argument.

armor is so nerfed in TLG is actually stupid. not only is the armor rating and encumbrance made way worse on almost everything, tons of the armor pieces have been made to have weird layer incompatibilities for seemingly no reason, e.g. a bunch of previously outer layer armors were made to be normal layer, armor pieces for specific body parts like lower arm/leg were mostly removed, and coverage was massively nerfed on literally everything. chainmail in particular was nerfed into the ground especially on legs, which is particularly funny because chainmail leg coverings still exist IRL as protective workplace gear.

it looks like the survivor suit and survivor trenchcoat is the only worthwhile armor stack, the coat in particular gives you a dumb strapped/overtop layer armor that you can't get literally anywhere else. The skintight layer has basically been made completely useless on every slot except torso, where you can now wear a soft ballistic vest which will no doubt be giga-BiS from when you get it off a cop on day 1 until the very end game.

Head slot is also completely fucked, somehow even more fucked than DDA which I didn't think possible.
>>
>>585606315
So they nerfed everything but didn't even bother changing the old meta that crafted survivor gear is the best? (Aside from hub01/exodii stuff, but those don't exist in TLG, right)
>>
>>585547987
If you want a challenge why even try baby nights? Not memeing here
>>
>>585606718
survivor gear is even more BiS than it used to be, combat boots were nerfed from 6 encumbrance to fucking 16, but survivor boots are still 10, literally no reason to use anything else. same for gloves, and every other slot really.
I debugged all crafting recipes and looked through the item list and the concealable ballistic vest+survivor suit+survivor coat is literally the only thing worth using outside of end game shit you never find anyway.

Even the leather armor was nerfed heavily and is now total ass.
>>
>>585606718
>>585607216
they nerfed the cut resistant sleeves to be 40% coverage instead of 95% or whatever it was, and also increased the encumbrance lmao.
because of the retarded layer/slot incompatibilities they introduced, you essentially have to choose between giving up armor on your arms or legs, because you can only get the "hanging" layer leg armor from the trenchcoat but the trenchcoat also has shit arm slot armor, especially with the nerfed cut resistant sleeves.

Haven't played CDDA in a while. Seems like they removed weapons with reach attacks to hit different Z levels. So you can't just climb a tree and kill everything with no risk to you.
They also nerfed all traps where they all have a chance to break.
I wonder if they nerfed digging holes and just throw rocks at them. As long as zombies can't fly or climb you can still easily clear a city, given enough time.
>>
>>585634554
If you think about it, there should always be a way forward.
And since it's such a realistic simulationist game, it's hardly ever something exotic like piling your items into a square to polymorph them or fishing for a specific monster.
You can just be more or less judicious in combat, depending on how much damage you take and how heavily it taxes your healing factor.

I could probably disassemble that for some exceptionally early smelted copper, but I'm not sure how much. I'll start scrounging for credit though. If it's at least five, I can make a still. Failure of crafting takes durability from the items you attempt to use, making the eventual success result in a lower durability product if you take many tries. You can destroy items this way and will need to gather more ingredients to attempt the craft again. Repairs take about half the total and bring the current back up to that new total durability. There is a Protect action that makes things not be used at 0 current durability so you can repair them efficiently.

What's the point of making a knife if it's just going to use my axe every fucking time?
And how the fuck do I choose which item I'm crafting with, besides laboriously moving all the regular items out of my inventory? I get all these special quality items and it's just random whether I use them or not?
And the fishing, don't get me started on the fishing. This is one of those starvation treadmill type games, huh?
Hoping I can remember to go pick a carrot (god knows when it comes out of seedling stage) and if I'm lucky I might get TWO carrots out of it and if I can avoid starving for 100,000 turns I might be able to turn those 2 carrots into 12 and sustainably provide 5% of my caloric needs by eating half my crop and replanting the other?

There is a wealth of information in the help screen, should you have the patience to look there. Usually it uses the best tool for the job. If there's a tie for the best tool, it will use the first instance of the action in your inventory. Same goes for which item you're using to craft. First available in the inventory. Sorting by weight automatically makes you use the heaviest thing for everything. Manually moving things around will change the sort order to "custom". Also: yes, moving the "regulars" out is probably the best way if you're only wanting to use better items in the craft. Fishing is actually a great way to not starve, not to mention the badderlocks are great for string/fabric. The fishing loop, for the most part, is net first to bring a fish out of hiding then use the rod to target the tile they are in once they come out to play. Life is a starvation treadmill. Keeping note of produce you've found around the map is a good idea. At [ripening] stage most, but not all things can be harvested for fruit or seeds and then revert back to a mid-stage to grow more. Cotton is a weird one. If you survive 100k turns in a single life, I'd be rather impressed. My dumb ass has gotten pic related for turns total. This my my seventh start. Good luck and godspeed, castaway. Perhaps you can attempt to sweet talk a Harpy into being tame for that blowie you want.
>>

>Wayward is a game about exploration and discovery
>There is a wealth of information in the help screen, should you have the patience to look there

I'm gonna say a SLURRRRRR

Well, anyways, I suppose if Sharpness III doesn't give better results than Sharpness II, just unlocks higher tier recipes(?) that's fine then.
Still, I'd like to preserve the axe, since I end up felling trees about 10x more than I do harvesting anything with the knife. I'm not really all that hard pressed for tool durability anyways, I suppose.

Half the problem with hunting down produce (and exploring the map overall) is how slow walking anywhere is, both in terms of real time and in-game starvation time. And the survivor just goes fucking HAM 10% of the time when autopathing and blows the fuck out of whatever gatherable is in my way, instead of walking around it? Fuckin insane, I don't want to carry that weight OR leave items laying around, but goddamn.

I didn't mind the badderlocks, necessarily, I actually kind of liked how economical that was over beating trees up for bark desu.
But actually catching the fish is wild, I hadn't noticed the net scare any fish out. "This area is overfished" once, and I've seen fish shadows darting around... But since I couldn't figure out how to bait the hook I was just throwing the net in deep waters and hoping it was some infinite fish pool I was gacha pulling from.

Ah well, that'll help at least, thanks anon.
Whaddya know about snares? Do I have to hope a rat or rabbit runs into it? Do they respawn?
And how is cotton, do you have to harvest it early or late or something?

Oh, and I've got some nice coal (one level down, alongside a big pool of freshwater) and peat supplies, but do I like... Keep digging down for ore, or look around on the first underground level some more? There's dangerous critters down there, it's scary. But I'm starting to kind of feel cramped having made nearly all the clay and granite and wood items I can, it feels like.

It doesn't work like that, but I believe the III vs II is more success chance/quality outcome.
>how slow walking anywhere is
There are other methods of travel. A raft is much more economical, energy wise, once you can figure out how to make one. The auto-pathing into plants is absolutely fuckin' stupid though.
>infinite fish gacha
The overfished state of a tile will wear off after a while, just move and keep going. The shadows that dart about can spawn sometimes instead of getting some other junk (treasure, messages in bottles, old boots, etc.) that will just jump into your inventory, the fish need to be "pulled" a second time, and that's where the range on the pole helps. As there's effectively infinite water around, fishing is "renewable" resources. One of the stats you've not discovered yet will care about that.
>snares
Hope? Yeah, kinda. You can position something between you and the snare and then move toward the animal, usually the animal will run from you, hopefully into the trap. I've only used a snare for the first time this run, so I don't have a ton of experience, but I've got ideas for later. Respawn? Once again, kinda. I'm not sure on the range of it, but things will both spawn and die off (sometimes) in an area around you, but I've not figured out the exacts. First exploration around my island here I found one chicken. This last time I wandered about to check on plants I found two chickens in a completely different area I'd already been through. I believe cotton is bugged. It'll say that it's in the [ripening] state and that won't change, but the third harvest will destroy the plant and give plant roots. I'll need to fiddle the next time I locate some for a bug report.
>digging down
I haven't attempted to dig down to a second underground level, but only because I assumed there wasn't one. Just keep lookin'.
As an aside, the patch notes have information too.

Took a bit to make a couple of hitches for the chicks. I've also begun asking about cotton on the discord to find out if it not updating the growth state is intended behavior. Thanks mang. That big ass rat is still too dangerous for me. Right now I'm basically subsisting off of delicious clean water it seems like, but I've got 3 jugs now so I can maybe walk across the island and back without starving to death.
Might try and figure out carts/wheelbarrows with these wheels I can make, surely it's just a matter of having enough rods and dowels and planks and... Mmm, bone glue probably. Well, fishing it is then.

It's wild that boulder traps deal 6 damage and snares do 5.
I always hate when these stupid sim games make you try and physically manually flush animals into them instead of just letting you set the snare and collect the randomly spawned critter later- I may as well bash it with a slingshot anyways, then. It'll be ten times faster.

The little shits will wander into them quite often if you're not actively on top of the trap. You can also bait the traps with seeds, for the rats at least. Just drop it on the same tile. Yes, going and chasing them down and bopin' 'em in the 'ed would be faster. You can also slap one/a few down and check them every once in a while to see what's fresh. I made some stairs up 2 south 3 east from where I was standing before. The topside is a little occupied, for now. The pool will work for what I desire, but I'll need to clear out some room to make any use of it. Today, I break ground on a fortress.

Yes, but I wouldn't consider it a roguelike, Steam (as usual) is wrong. It's a single player extraction shooter, basically. Be aware of difficulty spikes.

I saw people bickering about whether a game is roguelike or roguelite and they were talking about ... Hitman worlds of assassin. They were debating whether it was "roguelike" because it had carry over between runs.

What was the last great RL?
>>
>>586114459
it's nice, fun and look is decent, levels are randomly generated but generally it's fun to go through them. My problem is that it's too easy. Once you have a solution for a level and enough food you are very safe and chances of dying on given level are really low.
>>
>>586125559
Mmm, oh, doesn't it have uh, hard to shoot already?
Oh, I see. Just super high ballistics and zero cut armor. I guess you slice up the hydraulic lines huh?
You should be able to hack them though, they're electronic robots, hacking doesn't give a shit about anything else.
Difficulty of 30 means you have to beat a somewhat esoteric formula- It's something like picrelated, though. I know half of y'all don't train computers and use Int as a dumpstat. (Not like it helps you wear that mythical day 1 powerarmor any better, am I right fellow chuds?)
>>
>>586157654
Training computers is easy as an intlet. Just get a 3d printer, a shitload of plastic, and start printing whatever. Misc software, unitool, medisoft, hackpro, etc USB crafts are also really good once you can make them. Should only take a few days of crafting.

I use Recycling Centers as my source of plastic. They're great places to loot in general honestly; they got lots of random books, storage batteries, a Compacting Machine for quickly scrapping lots of garbage, and the sheer quantity of random scrap and stuff can satisfy your crafting needs for a long time especially if you bash each of the fragile bins for the pipes and bit of extra plastic.
>>
>>586157654
>You should be able to hack them though
Ok, go try it.
I'm not going to ask you to waste your time, debug in invis, a control laptop, 10 computers and 20 int.
Show results.

>>586106763

Fuck Infra Arcana. Got one win with Ghoul but I am done with this shit.

Damage output / debuffs are overtuned to the point where the variance inherent in a roguelike simply is not manageable. This is compounded by a lack of outs. You might go an entire run without identifying a Potion of Vitality and there is no Scroll of Teleportation equivalent. Other gripes include:

Invisible enemies - Shadow Spiders are by far the worst offender but there are quite a few. You (usually) have no way of knowing there is an invisible enemy until they attack you. By then it's often too late.

Burning - cannot fire your weapon, spells have a 50% failure rate (you still pay the mana). Enemy spellcasters can smite you with fire. Fire can do enough damage over it's duration to take most of your health bar.

Paralyzation - extremely easy to be stunlocked and die instantly, even from full health.

Spirit and Life sapping - arbitratry punishment the player has no control over. Early game spirit sapping can result in one-hit kills from invisible Ghosts.

Blinding - many roguelikes have a blind effect but in IA the duration of the blind is often how long it takes whatever blinded you to finish the job.

Wounds / Armor breakage - both of these are fine in theory but way overtuned in practice.

The late game in general is just miserable, wandering around a bunch of pitchblack caverns only to get raped by a Hunting Horror.

IA has by far the best flavor of any roguelike but too much of it is for flavor's sake and does not result in fun or interesting gameplay. After a while the novelty of dying in colorful ways wears thin and it's hard to escape the feeling that you're just wasting your time. It's a shame because many of the mechanics are really well thought out.

Alright anon, I did it. Now what?
So it looks like the problem is that actual in-game difficulty is a numerical value calculated off an esoteric mix of armor and attack values(hhg is pretty close but they're doing something different than the actual code)- The chicken walker's "diff" of 30 in the .json is actually a modifier that accounts for something like 70 of its 82 difficulty, meant to represent how dangerous its special attacks are- I was using 30 instead of 82, my bad. That means something like: You have to have a computer skill of 10 AND an intelligence of 15 AND you have to highroll an RNG from 2-15(2 to your intelligence). Kind of shit, anon, that's practically impossible unless you've got it LOS'd through a floor or wall, even in the case you've got an insanely high intelligence, yeah. You should ask in the Discord and see if someone could tweak it to be a little bit lower or change the robohacking formula
>>
>>586167821
I find myself entirely in agreement with all of your points, especially those about invisible enemies, burning, blinding and how narrow the gap is between damage, health and mitigation is.

It truly feels like the kind of game you only win not only if you get significantly lucky in receiving boons several times but also avoid dozens of "bad luck, better try again" type unmitigable events
