In English, however, fragmented and incomplete sentences sound bad, and "but" is not a harmonic word at all, it sounds bad and is not commonly used to end sentences. (That's why the TL here is so widely mocked by fluent people who find sentences ending with "but." jarring). The problem here is not the Japanese using でも and けど in normal, effective ways for their language; the problem is a bad translator mapping them 1:1 onto but and imagining it is accurate to just replace them with "but" with no mind for contextual usage or nuance or feeling or really anything.
