>They program new costumes as new characters for some reason
>Tokyo Revengers was picked because they wanted to appeal to younger players
>They pick new DLC characters based on priority. Those who haven't appeared in a long time and lack 3D models are main priority, while those who always appear in KOF have the lowest priority.
>Possible picks for the future are the Jin twins or those related to the Scrolls, Yamazaki because they are lacking villains, Xiangfei and Sendo because they are lacking in girls.

i've never even seen tokyo revengers get talked about even in person by the younger crowd, but one literally asked if i saw jujitsu kaiser or whatever it's called and the conversation would shift to someone else who did because i don't even really keep up with anime or manga

tokyo revengers though? lol i only once or twice heard the name of it alone in passing and only on the internet
>>
>>585828823
I talked about it with my younger sister and the MC is legitimately such a radioactive wastebin that he outright disinterests anyone young. Anyone who IS into it are into it for the characters in CotW. So they chose a dogshit shonen people actually admit is garbage and added the popular characters for whatever reason
>>

>Also it has it's fujo fanbase

>>
>>585825234
So that's just a template that they "copy" when making a new character. Seems messy that it is somehow in the code of the game and not in a dev tool, but whatever.
Dunno what makes you think that SNK doesn't have a reference like that as a starting point.
>>
>>585832773
The costumes are proof of that, for one. Even if say SNK were copying off a base, they still do it individually for every thing implemented in the game including NPCs and Bosses. Hypothetically instead of the load-bearing Goku, the smart way to do it would be to have Costumes just reference the original ID's stats so you don't have to do the same coding twice in the first place. That's how you avoid Terry misalignment situations

Brazilian EVO also confirmed with KOFXV and COTW. But still want to know if they'll feature 2002 vanilla, UMs or other stuff as side tournaments.
Those prices are insane here. I think now I understand why people complain so much about EVO in Vegas.
>>
>>585833540

>>
>>585834345
owners are money grubbers, just like tko with wwe charging like upwards of 1000 dollars for tickets which is insane even by most sports standards
they will milk something dry and sell it off when it can't be milked and then abandon it to die for another business to do the same
>>
>>585833065
>they still do it individually for every thing implemented in the game
How is that different for Strive characters? Even if they would link to Goku parameters as a reference point as opposed to straight copy, they would still have individual difference, just in a less human readable format.
>the smart way to do it would be to have Costumes just reference the original ID's stats so you don't have to do the same coding twice in the first place
Theoretically, it could work, but it would have to be a subset of stats and not all of them, as I'd imagine depending on how involved the costume is there might be additional animations and/or effects that would have to be tied to the actions.
Ultimately, I would just synchronize those ID stats at the toolset level rather than hardcoding links in the game.
>>
>>585833540
>>585834345
They are throwing money away, competing at a loss.
The goal is to establish the EVO brand in every region as the most prestigious tournament there ideally BY DISPLACING the area’s existing, traditional tournaments and then transform the EWC into a REAL WORLD tournament© (recreating what the original EVO once was). That is why they’ve moved events to places like Paris (goodbye, UFA) and Singapore (goodbye, Tekken World Tour).
Ironically, they are effectively dethroning EVO, quite deliberately.
>>
>>585835459
If you don't get how it's different, one is applying the differences onto the original base while the other is running a separate stream of code altogether. You do less checks doing the former. You run the character, then their differences, versus loading a separate character altogether. It means less coding because you're not running a separate Nightmare Geese file than the boss one, you'd be running hypothetically Rock->Nightmare Geese statistics. You don't need to code the default stuff like stage movement and action, you just need to code the hitboxes and moves. It trims down work, hypothetically you can make these individual slots, maybe that would be more "optimal" for a full game release but when you're adding content like DLC not needing to do checks for all of the base mechanics helps a lot

Still, it should be utilized for costumes at the very least. They shouldn't be tying base mechanics to models directly because that's why the "half as much time to make a new character" issue happens at all. That being said I have a suspicious feeling SF6 does the same shit because Arjun didn't even drop with a Drivetech slop alt

I see how it is different, but applied differences still should be stored somewhere, be it the same file or a separate one, so it is more or less the same amount of the code.
It is just that one approach is self sufficient and another takes magic numbers and modifies them according to the "patch".
>You don't need to code the default stuff like stage movement and action, you just need to code the hitboxes and moves.
I can't say anything here, because I haven't seen how CotW does that, but I imagine that you don't need to have a copy of an entire character like Goku to hard code the very basic character functionality like movement in the first place. It makes more sense to have those things as universal functions that characters would call to.
>They shouldn't be tying base mechanics to models directly because that's why the "half as much time to make a new character" issue happens at all.
That sounds like your own misreading of the situation. I imagine that coding the character in is the fastest part in comparison to modeling work and tweaking the animations (like if there's additional cloth stuff or if there's more parts that should move).
If anything, I'm surprised that it is just half as much time, because it is really most of the work.
>>
>>585841624
stuff like hitboxes is not part of the animation, or it shouldn't be, or active frame timing either
animations are a front end representation of the act taking place, but are not necessarily tied to mechanics
you can fully represent anything in the backend of cotw's code with vectored stick figures, simple shapes like spheres joined together, or even a single static bitmap that never animates, and still retain all the LOGIC part (hitboxes, hurtboxes, frame data, etc) without compromise, and if your code cannot do that, your code already fails

and that's the thing, it was the PROPERTIES of moves being disparate between costumes, not necessarily animations which apparently according to mai shiranui, they didn't even tweak adjusting her pants?

the only things that should be different outside cloth physics which should be defined in the model's own data files independently, are the specific animations unique to each costume and not the base animations that can work with both versions, and that is not some impossibility in programming to make happen

Animations should be tied to character frames and frames naturally should represent a certain state that the character is mechanically in, so there absolutely should be some kind of link to the mechanical part. And depending on a costume, there might be a different amount of those links making it a mess that would potentially make the game miss a tick of game logic, even if it was done in a way that ArcSys does this shit.
>and that's the thing, it was the PROPERTIES of moves being disparate between costumes, not necessarily animations which apparently according to mai shiranui, they didn't even tweak adjusting her pants?
In all honesty, it seems more like alternate Mai was rushed, going by the second part and Terry being more polished. I bet that properties being different might be a part of future patch in the state that is currently mid development.
What can I say, it's probably for the best that the regular Mai wasn't affected thanks to the costume being treated as a separate character.
>>
>>585845652
>Animations should be tied to character frames
not necessarily
you're not going to extend or contract an animation based on its frame properties either, it'll look jank
which means you should time one to the other
animations are a collection of moving the bones of the model around in specific ways and since bones are vector math based just like meshes and matrix operations performed on such, it shouldn't be too much trouble to have that be portable across almost all bodies

going around your ass to get to your elbow

it goddamn means (should be obvious) doing things the (needlessly) longer or harder way instead of doing things the normal way to reach the same result, ie you're making it harder or take longer than it should have been had you done it a more proper way
trying to think of a good example outside this circumstance because shit like that doesn't usually enter my stratosphere but let's say you could literally walk two buildings down, it's not even but 500 feet, but instead of walking, you get into your car and driver over to the parking lot next to that building just to go inside
not only did you waste gas, you probably could have simply walked to the building and gotten there faster without all the prep time of starting your car, driving, and then parking and exiting the vehicle

To make it simple Rock in motw was like Sasuke, while in cotw he becomes the boruto version.

This is just a general problem with fighting game storytelling I noticed. Characters tend to get presented completely differently in the gameplay than the actual story. Rock isn't really that inconsistent in MotW cutscenes between is CotW version, but if you see his gameplay exclusively then he probably comes across "cooler" than his actual character. Rock doesn't have an ounce of some what some of the worst SNK winquotes offer (picrel) because of his inner turmoil. One of the worst examples of this is Strive because half the Strive characters will have stories that almost completely contradict their gameplay selves because the stories take place "after" the gameplay incarnation

It's kind of outstanding how little fighting game devs seem capable of presenting their ideas. Characters build entire fanbases off of their designs and actions and then someone actually reads the lore and wonder "do the creators even understand the appeal?"
>>

He's right. Rock is uncool and lame now, just like basically everything SNK does these days. None of these characters nor worlds look appealing/cool with these guys working on them. They're ugly, toothless, and flaccid. Only other companies can make these characters feel cool. Like Geese in Tekken.

I forgot to mention that everyone who doesn't eat up everything SNK puts out is a larper tourist.

Did Max ever play Samsho?
But yeah, I don't give a fuck about him. I just wish SNK gave more support to Samsho7. Rollback still could be better and no crossplay.

>>3D is easier and less expensive to make costumes for. Costumes recoup costs"
>Yeah, turns out that was bullshit, like some of us knew all along. Cause they barely to rarely make them, and when they do, they're 'redrawing' the entire character anyway.
In theory yes, but if you're SNK who was retarded enough to not create a database layered system specifically for outfits then yes it would be much harder

That's a cool ass win quote. It gets the job done in making you hate him which is what they were aiming for.

SNK were really good at trash talk, especially during the early Playmore era. They haven't hit the same since XIV. You just had Kukri and the occasional quip, but nothing ever legitimately severe. I think that's what they thought they were doing with Vox's Reaganomics quote

Old people are just too aware of their identity to want to do things. Meanwhile all the fresh talent is bad and stuck doing the boring gruntwork (poorly)

>SNK were really good at trash talk
it wasn't that they were good, it was that the things that were said were so baffling and absurd that they would be meme-viable
