I'd still advice the Simple Difficulty Tweaks mod, it doesn't do anything with default settings but it lets you reduce the amount of XP you get. Otherwise you'll go from 1 to 60 in an hour on hard mode. Also gear progression so that there's a reason to explore the base game.
