What I really wish more games took from mass effect 3 is companions reacting to other companions getting killed or dumpstered by you. The best case scenario right now is that these people join a group chat somewhere and they can send each other "DAE CAMELLIA VIRGIN!?" every hour on the hour, somebody can start arguing about waffles when they misread the text, and then this general might slowly become usable again. But nothing good can happen here until these people are cleared away. You can't have a website where people use words to communicate and then a majority of the users can't read, it doesn't work.

I think for me the point where it becomes cheese is the point where I can't justify it within the setting as something that might happen in that world. Bunny hopping in Cyberpunk is cheese, V wouldn't do that. If you saw it in a cutscene it would look goofy and out of place. Drinking a bunch of intelligence potions to make more intelligence potions in Morrowind is something you might legitimately read about some wizard doing in an in-game book - OP, but not cheese.

I'd say cheese is using intended game mechanics in an unexpected way to trivialize an encounter, for example using Dimension Door during Regill's first quest. Game abuse is using outright bugs or oversights to gain an advantage, like toggling the Share Experience option during the prologue to turbo charge your experience gain or gaining Trickster's critical feats via Loremaster. In summary cheese is exploiting working mechanics in unexpected ways, abuse is exploiting broken mechanics.
So take barrelmancy in DOS2/BG3, that's clearly an intended cheese mechanic but I would consider it cheating/game abuse in my personal playthrough
