In fact piracy for 3DS got quite bad so sales for 3DS games don't actually reflect the ammount of people who played Awakening, Fates or SoV (I know I sure as hell didn't pay for SoV). Switch 2 emulationwas released at a very unfortunate time, too. Intelligent Systems has absolutely no idea what makes their own games popular.It's funny because Awakening was the reverse of Engage. It was made to be a swan song to the series, a solid 20% of the game doesn't even make sense without context for the deep cut references and THAT became one of the most sold games in the series ever. Three Houses was also designed to be a niche approach to the series with a very different approach to the core series piloted by the team who made Fire Emblen Warriors and look how that ended up. Ultimately what decides whether a game has a broad appeal or not is the players themselves.
