Not in the sense of Levianthans/whales having a huge advantage because every gaccha game will be like that but in the sense that dolphins will be way ahead of f2p players? Does the game significantly award people who spend a little/decent amount every month? Do spenders have access to way more ultra and epic crayons? Do f2p players get enough crayons where the difference between spenders and f2p playes are negliable? Do dupes in this game benefit themselves more than just a linear/flat stat increase or do they unlock new skills that change the character entirely? Is there actually competitive content that people take seriously or gives out big enough rewards that encourage you to "try hard"?

Unlocking extra stars on a character gives a tiny bonus to stats until they reach 5* when they get their Yearning. There are three levels of Yearnings unlocked through dupes, each level coming with a new passive. Y2 is usually a big power spike that changes something about how the unit works while Y1 and Y3 give minor buffs. Getting Yearnings is perfectly doable as a f2p, especially over a long enough time, but they are always a heavy investment and so something only serious whales can secure for full Y2 teams.
