I think it's a fine April Fools Day joke. The concept is perfectly fun, it's just that in comparison to previous years it's not as elaborate. But if they don't have any good ideas to justify doing a massive site-wide disruptive event, I think it's better to just do something lowkey like this rather than forcing something bigger that wouldn't be funny.
