Gloria Victis is back and it's free to play! We are less than a week out from the Open Beta on 4/20. Sign up on Steam now.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/327070/Gloria_Victis_Medieval_MMORPG/
Besiege castles and forts with your friends, massive battles, small skirmishes, PvE fights are all there. GV is a low-fantasy medieval PvP MMO. Gameplay is a mix of Mount and Blade 2: Bannerlord meets Planetside 2. Gear matters, but skill-based combat, 3 Factions vying for control of territory and resources.

Choose from the Norse-inspired Ismir, the Medieval English/Frankish/HRE inspired Midlanders, and the Roman/Byzantine/Persian inspired Sangmar.

No class system, flexibility to choose your role in battle: frontline with sword and shield, backline healer, bruiser wielding a 2-handed axe or halberd, horse backed lancer, archer on the parapets. Gatherers and farmers are needed to.
Crafting, fishing, planting crops are there. Design your own Coat of Arms or rep your guild's Coat of Arms to leave your mark on captured territory.
Use rams, ballistas, boiling oil and catapults to besiege or repeal besiegers.
What faction/role are you looking forward to?
>>
>>2351911
Have had my eye on this. What faction we joining when open test drops?
>>
>>2352403
Sangmar is my favorite at the moment. Midlands will be flooded with dudes. Not sure how Ismir will fare.

Is this game purely pvp focused or is there actual fun PVE to do also?
pvp only mmorpgs die for a reason, you need a proper balance of both pve and pvp.
>>
>>2352654
From some of the videos that were available and information from discord it seems like they are overhauling the game from original PvP focused state to having pve zones/elements with the end goal still being get gear>go to faction frontline to pvp. I do wonder how effective small groups will be in a game like this.

I played some in 2023 before it got shut down, and skipped PvE for the most part. It apparently was a long Early Access process, and they wanted to do a bit of everything. I would say the main focus is definitely the PvP siege content. The PvE content is there. And the opening hours of the game are purely PvE questlines with you killing mobs and collecting drops from them. I don't think there's anything like WoW late game instances, but I have seen groups of players taking down dungeons with knights and giant mobs so it's apparently a thing you can do.
A lot of the mobs I encountered incidentally while PvPing were wolves, tameable horses, and a type of bird. They would drop meat and hides you can use in crafting. There is a lot of crafting you can do if you are into that.
>>
>>2353733
Did you get a chance to try the test that was open a week or two ago? What was that like if so? Can small groups get into this and have fun/help larger groups?
>>
>>2351911
how do servers work in this game i hope its one big server like mortal online ai overview says it has multiple regional servers
>>
>>2355110
The most recent test had multiple servers. As to how populated they were, no idea.
>>
>>2355110
For the Closed Beta, they had 2 North American servers, 2 European servers, and I think 2 Asian servers. Not sure what they are planning for Open Beta or Release.
>>
>>2353733
Is there any lore to the factions?
>>
>>2357639
I think it's supposed to roughly mirror Europe in the 1400's w/o the gunpowder. I don't how fleshed out it is really.
The Midlanders are like a union of English/Frankish Crusaders and HRE Landsknechts.
Sangmar is like a post-fall Byzantine Empire, but instead of becoming Turks they are now a Satrapy under the "Azebs".
The Ismir are kind of Nordic barbarian types, maybe like a Viking colony in the Baltics that never joined Christendom.

how difficult is it to farm and craft for gear to fight on a front?

The Wheat symbols represent farms where you can grow crops. The gray banner zone is the "loot" area. Meaning if you are killed, the enemy faction can loot one or two items from your body. (It's handled by a loot point system that prevents a full loot from happening.) You can see the large farms are around this area, there are smaller wheat symbols in the "non-loot" areas.
Unless there's an active battle going on nearby, it'll probably be safe to conduct your business there. Really rare to have an enemy ride up and attack something too far from the front line. In the Closed Beta I did see one faction holding a fort beyond enemy lines, but they were getting hammered by the other two factions. They couldn't leave.
Food and drink are important as they bestow combat buffs if you are fully satiated.
More info on crafting, I'm really not much of an expert on that:

3 Days out from Open Beta. Here's a quick guide for what to expect once you log in.
Thread theme: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4vRaS2UC74U
ー Character Creation ー
After choosing a nation and customizing your char, you may get a questionnaire to see what type of class you should pick. Starting class doesn't seem to matter too much outside of your starting stats being shifted around between Dexterity, Strength, and Constitution.
Long vid about this:
ー Starting Out ー
You will start in your faction's Capital city far from the front lines. You will see various quest givers and NPCs. These quests act as a sort of tutorial to get you used to the combat and a way to get starting gear and money.
They are pretty basic quests and will run you around the safe zone until about level 40. Around this level is when you are recommend to enter the PvP fray. Experience gain should be expedited for the test.
Side note:
You may encounter wild horses, it's recommended to tame them to get around more quickly. Horses can be killed, so extras will be stored in the Stablemaster in town.
ー Getting Around ー
If you ever need to get back to the Capital City, you can hit Escape and use the Help Stuck option to teleport to the Capital City or a nearby Spawn point.
In the Capital City the Logistician will take you to different Points of Interest, typically under your faction's control for a small sum of money.
Look at the map and look for any burning banners to see if a battle is taking place nearby, and travel there to get in the fight.
Also if you join a group already engaged in fighting, you will get an option to teleport to their location.
>>

83 KB JPG
ー Fighting ー
You can approach a battle solo, but groups are recommended. Whisper people nearby or talk to them to get an invite.
You can destroy the wooden portcullis to gain entry. 2 handed axes seem to work best if no siege equipment is present.
Clear enemies and NPC guards to pull down an enemy flag and capture their territory.
You can loot downed enemies if you are in a "loot zone". You have 10 points to spend, Major Gear is 8 Points: Chest pieces, helmets, leggings, weapons, and shields. This cost ensures you can generally only take one major piece of equipment per kill.
Minor Gear is 6 Points: Shoulders, gloves, and boots.
Materials & Consumables are 2 Points: Crafting materials and food/potions. These can often be looted in stacks of up to 100.
Looting can be interrupted if the looter takes damage, so shooting an arrow at one can help a buddy out.
ー Respawning ー
If you are attacking, you may want to bring a deployable tent to act as a personal respawn. Sometimes a nearby fort will act as a respawn, but without that you could be covering a lot of ground as you have to choose from the closest respawn point under your faction's control.
On Defense, you will be able to respawn inside the castle, but you will have to clear several gates. Good idea to close them behind you.
>>
Will some weapons be better in certain situations over others?
>>
File: 4534346545.jpg (12 KB, 264x191)

>>2360244
Yeah, a 1hander and a shield will be ideal to equip if you are taking lots of arrow or ballista fire.
Swords and daggers are quicker, axes are in the middle, maces and hammers are slower but hit harder. Spears are better at piercing it seems.
You can backstab with daggers and do bleed damage. Bow and arrow gives you the ability to hit people from a distance etc.
This video touches on a lot, but if you skip to combat he brings up some good points. You bind directional attacks or blocking to certain keys. Doing so can cut down on the randomness of relying on the mouse direction.

Yes, I think definitely small groups will matter a lot. A few guys who know what they are doing can defend a gate against a larger attacking force. Even if there are massive 100 vs 100 battles going on, your small group can contribute in a variety of ways. Even if you are just out scouting around, you can use faction chat to coordinate and organize defenses/attacks.

>>2361073
Less than two days left. Rolling on the NA server too. Assuming server host is just in NA and they generically name them 1, 2, and 3 etc. I'll go to NA1 for the test. What are your plans for the initial test launch?
>>
>>2364133
The devs are saying there will be rewards for participating in Open Beta, but they are planning a full wipe before release. I may experiment with different things to see what I want to roll in release. I'm pretty sure I'm gonna just be wielding a 2hander. But I might try different armors out to see what I like the best. May just go PvP as fast as possible.

Interested in going 2h axes simply for the cool factor and not for any practical reason. Since there's a level system, also guessing there are limited amounts of skill points to spend too.
Found a wiki but not sure how accurate it is but it looks like it has been updated since last month. https://wiki.gloriavictisgame.com/index.php/Main_Page
>>
>>2364699
Reading through the wiki some more I understand that leveling will be based off using tier previous tiers and progresses to next one after once an adequate amount of experience is gained from using the previous tier on relevant targets.
Tier 1>Tier 2>Tier 3>Tier 4>Tier 5 (end of tiers)
>>
>>2364699
That looks pretty awesome, I haven't played yet but I didn't know it had such an in-depth talent tree.
I wonder if we can respec to experiment with builds and abilities

The good news is you can loot other faction's armor and wear it. More good news, it's an Open Beta so you can try out other factions and make up your mind when the game launches.
>>
>>2370938
oh fugg what
gotta reroll

the game is really cool though, giving me good old school mmo vibes.

looks like we get free 10k cash shop currency too to buy skins, are they account bound or can people take them in pvp?
>>
>>2370944
I'm guessing the skins are account bound so even if you run into combat for pvp you won't lose it.
>>
What should I set my keybinds to for blocking and attacking?
>>
The game can't differentiate between shift, alt, and ctrl + # keys so it deverts to alpha 1, 2 and 3 as seen in keybindings. Changed block to shift+1, shift+2, and shift+3. Overall infinitely better.
>>
upon further testing it invalidates the use of the 1, 2 and 3 keys even if trying to keybind with ctrl, shift, or alt so now my blocks are bound to 1-3 but its workable since I can just put other items on the other slots

I'm hearing you can change factions at any point on your char before you hit lvl 70. Looks my prediction is pretty accurate. Midland is dominating. Ismir are getting destroyed.

everyone is going to pick fully armored arthurian chads over leather wearing barbarians and desert nerds

Long 12 hr conflict between midlands and sangmar over the stretch of land between Dimar and Scarsdale. GG you arthurian goofballs.

Thankfully there aren't many negative drawbacks to losing territory. Part of the fun is defending and attacking. The building doesn't seem too bad unless a nation goes on a total destruction spree destroying structures. That being said, seems as if the building system that was in place initially got overhauled.
>>
>>2379341
Yeah I don't understand building. I max-upgraded a respawn fort once, but it already had all the mats outside. I may try to learn more about it on release. Just enjoying the PvP when I have time to play this week.
>>
>>2380846
Dabbled in a bit of building yesterday. Involved hauling resources that spawn at the central keep or outpost and dragging it to where stuff that is a faint outline of white on a table. Submitting enough resources to the table which consists of mortar, wood, or bricks allows you to upgrade it Basic Wood Wall>Poor Wood Wall>Wood Wall>Poor Stone Wall>Stone Wall>Normal Wall. There's an icon in fortresses with a fence that denotes supplies and you can take those to the architect table for build points to keep resources spawning. Very janky, some of the walls for Ismir spawn tables in the terrain so for some castles you can't even build some of the walls.
