Kinda crazy how different and yet similar the game is from the alpha. Lots of changes, but the core is still there.
>>
>>2362092
>>
>>2362094
I love seeing early iterations of games, models, soundtracks and ideas in general like this.

>>2362100
>>
>>2362102
https://streamable.com/pmz8f8
>Burning greydwarf eyes in the fire makes a portal to world spawn
I wonder how different the devs' ideas for the game were at the time, and what else has been cut.

>Spears are just throwing spears
>Depleting your stamina bar means you must wait for it to recover completely before you can do anything that uses stamina
>Stone pickaxe (that can't terraform and swings like an axe)
>Draugr instead of skeletons in meadows and black forest crypts
>No weight limit
>No parry
>
I really wish I knew how to enable the console, if it's even possible in this build. I'm not tech savvy enough to figure it out on my own, and there aren't exactly any easily found guides out there. I want to look under the hood and fly around.
>>
I have never posted here before, so maybe you guys already know about all of this, or don't care in the first place. I just feel like sharing in case others are curious like me. I didn't play the game before the Steam release.

>>2362111
Turns out the console is just the chat menu. Very limited commands, but you can spawn items and mobs if you know their names.
>ForestTroll
Honestly I think I prefer this look over their current colors. I remember having to rub my eyes when I first spotted one on my first playthrough. This look would've made that moment even more special.
>>
>>2362897
The regular Troll and 2 star version is also in the game at this point, but they're called
>Troll
>ForestTroll
>RedTroll
respectively.
>>
>>2362901
The Elder is the only boss in the game, he functions almost identically from what I remember of the current build. I haven't played since Ashlands.
>>
>>2362911
However, instead of dropping the Crypt Key, it drops an "Elder Heart", which permanently increases HP from 100 to 125. You are much less squishy in this version as food is only healing, not a temporary max hp buff
>>
>>2362921
Oh, forgot to mention it also drops ElderBark, which is Ancient Bark today. Swamp trees just drop regular wood.
>>
>Neat horned helmet
>2 unused iron axe variations: Rusty and Dragur[sic]
>Chisel and Adze as equippable tools, though seemingly without function
>>
>>2362911
While The Elder is the only boss in the game, there is an entity called Deer_god. It is not hostile and drops regular deer loot. Possible very early Eikthyr placeholder?
>>
>>2363150
>Iron can be found as Bog Iron in the swamp that you just pick up
>Can also me mined in the Mountains
>Both of which gives you Iron Ore
>Far south you can find Meteorites that you pick up, but instead of Flametal it drops a bunch of Iron Bars
Man, that would've made Iron so much more tolerable to farm lmao

>>
For good measure I went through the .obj files.
There were some somewhat interesting models in there. For example I didn't notice that The Elder altar had different statues in the alpha.
>Corgi
>Rabbit
>Deer
>Ancient Seed
In the modern build they're all ancient seeds

>>2369873
Nice. That "Running on logs" video is part of what convinced me to buy the game. I love niche stuff like that

>>2371821
They should at least not have removed it from the game entirely. I can see why it was removed, with the horned viking helm myth, but it is neat still. I'd be happy with just spawning it with the console commands
>>
>>2372305
And there are three models for the dragon head on the Longship.
The left one is the one used in the current build. The right one is in the alpha as seen here >>2363278 The middle one is entirely unused from what I can remember or tell.
>>
>>2372335
There are also these, which kinda looks like POI's? Idk know if all of these are placeholders or something. I vaguely remember hearing about that spaceship looking thing, but IDK if anything is known about it. I can't tell how big these are supposed to be either, but in any case they all go unused
>>
>>2372352
And lastly there's this one, which is a bit more interesting. This really looks like a POI, and it even has a modeled interior.

That's all I can dig up. I can't find the folder/archive for stuff like the stone cutter and forge for example, so there could be cut stuff in there as well, but that is beyond my abilities. Honestly I'm surprised I got as far as I did.
>>
During the alpha, the top left image was the loading screen.
I looked through the Steam release build, 0.142.6, and found the rest of these. Named
>loading0 - loading9
So at one point it seems they were planning somewhat random loading screens instead of just the troll and vikings in combat.
Sadly however, these are the full size images.

Speaking of the troll loading screen, here's the full sized one. Seems in-game it applies a blue filter, and partly covers the top and bottom of it.

I wonder if they were supposed to change based on the biome you were loading into?

>>2380706
>huh, i can kinda see the plains tower, ashlands castle, and mistlands ruins here, but that's with hindsight
Yeah, could be a very early rendition of those ideas, or just placeholders to give the others an idea of what they could do with them. Or complete coincidences lol.
>this kinda just reminds me of burial chambers or some other kind of dungeon; maybe a scrapped plains village?
Could be anything really. I think it looks a bit advanced for fulings, gives me more black forest or mountains vibes more than anything. But who knows what early ideas they had for Plains. I guess it's worth noting that it seems to be completely open world, as in there's no obvious entrance portal to a basement or anything like that that I can see.
Whatever these are, none of them survived until the Steam release build (except the spaceship thingy for some reason)

>I wonder if they were supposed to change based on the biome you were loading into?
I can see it. But speaking of biome specific screens, there's these.
Correct me if I'm wrong (I haven't played in ages), but they do not appear anywhere in the game, right? They could also be a loading screen idea, or probably more likely a background image for a journal entry for each biome
>>
File: biome_blackforest.png (599 KB, 850x480)
599 KB PNG
>>2382150
Oh btw if they look familiar, and they're not in the game, it's probably becaus you've seen them on the fandom wiki biome pages
>>
File: biome_ocean.png (456 KB, 850x480)

Note that the filename for this one is "Heath", an early name for the plains

>>2382162
>>
File: biome_mistlands.png (438 KB, 850x480)
438 KB PNG
Ahh, the now lost Mistlands... I really liked the old look. I like the current one as well, but this one with the skeletons and the spider webs, the oppressive darkness etc. really gave a horror vibe that the game now lacks. I wish they at least made a mini biome for this specific version of Mistlands, like a medium island on the world borders.

>>2382166
>>
File: biome_ashlands.png (235 KB, 850x480)
235 KB PNG
>>2382178
And lastly the Ashlands, though it is very uninteresting. Ashlands has been in the game for a surprisingly long time actually, it was already there in the alpha. That probably means they've had all kinds of ideas they've considered and never went ahead with.

Most intriguingly is the combination of

>SunProtection.png
and
>Sandstorm.png
Those are damage and status effect icons.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but even damage_heat goed unused, right? Do you think it could be an early idea for a weather effect in Ashlands? Given that Ashlands has been in the game forever, I can certainly see it.
Guess we'll never know.

I seriously did not realize the Draugr archers are female, until now. Anyone else? Just me?
>nostroke.png
>ShipMaterializer.png
Wonder what these are. I seem to vaguely remember that you can spawn a longship using console commands, that sits on land for a few seconds before it automatically drops down and becomes a regular ship. Could be that, I suppose?
>>
>>2402969
valheim+ had mostly everything, i also installed an arrow fix mod that basically made even the base bow somewhat viable and a Z axis mod that let me swing at things that weren't on my plane, but that caused issues with mining those big iron scrap piles. also there's a model changer if you have a vroid you like.

I genuinely hate that they are so carefree about sharing """"teasers"""" all the time. I wish they didn't share anything specific like that. Those aren't teasers, they're spoilers. Modern games do this all the time now
>>
>>2409250
I don't think it's humanly possible to share even less than they do now. You want them to go from two screenshots per month to one?
>>
>>2411049
For me personally, yeah. I wouldn't need a single one at all. I've already bought the game, why would I need to know what is upcoming before it's here in full? I don't get excited seeing this stuff early, I get frustrated because discovering it for myself would've been much more enjoyable. I've never understood why someone who is already hooked on a game needs to know, it's not a ""live service"" or anything like that.
Mind you, that's not to say I disagree with them sharing it for others. I just wish they didn't share the stuff in big ass pictures for all to see on the thumbail, even those who do not want to see. Hide it in the post itself and lead with a more generic picture. I check for news about when to expect the update, knowing there's drawbridges now takes away from me finding out organically.
>>
>>2411474
>punch a rock
>new recipe unlocked: drawbridges!
literally doesn't matter. you discover them before you build them.
>>
>>2411697
Disingenuous argument. I think you know what I mean, but since you disagree you don't care.
And it goes beyond buildable stuff. I'd rather get ambushed by a bear without knowing it was a thing, but since they just plastered an image of one in their news post that was taken away from me.

it's doable, it just depends how masochistic you are
building landmarks at major and minor points of interest that point you home is not a bad idea, and like the other anon said, you'll be spending a lot more time sailing back and forth.

it might be worth it to rush iron as fast as possible (with the birch chair glitch to get into crypts early) so you can build a longship ASAP

Same. My favorite biome is either black forest or mountains, it's a toss-up. Both are just oozing atmosphere. Mountains I usually bring enough resources to make a base and some food, then I live there for the next several hours. I never use portals, so when it's time to go there it feels like an epic adventure to me, living off of wolf meat and stuff.
I love this game so much
>>
>>2844416
I enjoy the atmosphere of the black forest, I'd love to have a permanent base there if not for how absolutely obnoxious the greynigs are. And no, spamming fire everywhere is not a solution because they still appear and run around like retards while occasionally throwing rocks.
>>2844540
Good taste. I love the mouintains and will always try to find a good spot there when I start a new world. If an area is high up, relatively flat and has no drake spawns then that's a jackpot. Bonus points for nearby silver veins. Best biome in the game, it's all (literally) downhill from there. Deep north looks promising and might even overtake the mountains as the most comfy biome judging by how the snow piles up and the fact that there are large snowy forests.

What are youre pipe dreams for the game?
It would serve little function, but god I wish the game had a similar climbing mechanic as BotW has, where your character can grab pretty much any surface and scale it while losing stamina. I love climbing in games. At least the game has some physics defying jumps when sprinting and such though.
Also, AI is getting kinda scary
>>
>>2852976
Being able to dig and build underground. Better terrain manipulation in general.
More precise aiming so that machicolations and arrow slits like in that sloppa could actually work.
NPC viking clans that you can fight against or recruit to do chores and repairs around your own base.
>>
>>2852976
UI that is not complete dogshit.
>>
>>2852976
Being able to use resin as a way to water proof wooden structures. Jesus christ how is this still not a thing outside of mods, fuck you I should not have to brave the plains and the tar pits for this shit
>>
what's the verdict on building stone walls in ashlands? want to do at least an ashlands landing before the update so i can say goodbye to this old save
>>
>>2860091
any pair of enemies there can chew through stone pretty quickly, and grausten is only a bit tougher
you could manage walling an outpost with it plus some maintenance but earthworks and trenches will do you better if you can set that up in good time
outside the forts it's tougher holding ground without spawn proofing the whole immediate area
>>
>>2860091
Terrain walls or bust. And even those can get destroyed by blobs. Stone gets destroyed far too quickly to actually defend you so building stone walls is purely for aesthetics.
>>
>>2862517
>>2862643
that's unfortunate. didn't want to resort to terrain walls because it looked ugly and it seems more inefficient compared to just dropping a bunch of stone walls, not to mention i'm going to do the landing solo
>>
>>2862757
I just do layers around my base so blobs can only damage the outer perimeter
A bad morgen and its over tho
Also btw blobs can destroy the terrain
>>
Is Ashlands still retarded? I know they nerfed it once, but I didn't feel much of a difference when I played it. Me and my brother had to turn the difficulty down to normal because we were getting our asses handed to us by the constant spawns. It was such a hueg spike in difficulty compared to the other biomes. I hope Deep North won't be like that
>>
>>2863294
It's still retarded but at least somewhat manageable if you're prepared with the best armor and food you can get. You'll want to upgrade to the Ashlands tier gear asap.
I think they said Deep North is going to be a similar in difficulty rather than yet another bump up. I assume you'll either go north or south after Mistlands depending on what flavor of rape you feel like enduring.
>>

>>
Is it worth upgrading my bronze pickaxe or should I just push the progression further? Is it worth upgrading in general?
>>
>>2872937
Bronze is never worth upgrading, the pickaxe especially is a complete waste of materials. The antler pickaxe can mine iron and can be repaired with just a workbench, better to just use that until you have an iron pickaxe.
I'd only upgrade tools for the most part. Silver armor and up can be worth upgrading, any armor before that is a waste except maybe the root armor.
>>
>>2852976
That the devs start working on a sequel once they're done patching and fixing bugs with Valheim's 1.0
>advanced AI for enemies and friendly NPCs
>water physics you can manipulate (divert rivers, block waves with levees to protect your harbour)
>caves and underground biomes
>add to the building system with more toys (like gizmo for a start)
>magic (whether spells, enchanting, whatnot) is a core feature from the start
>more options when generating your world (archipelago, continents, pangaea, specific resources drop modifiers (ie abundant ores but rarer trees) etc)
>revamped skills with more impactful difference from level1 to 100
>actual Hardcore mode with a Hall of Fame listing your past characters and what they achieved/died to
>good mount controls
to name a few, I could go on and on.
Unfortunately I keep hearing that the devs just want to move on and do their own thing, whatever that is, once 1.0 is launched.

Unexplored zones are automatically upgraded.
You shouldn't be missing much since you're still on route to Moder.

There are mods like Upgrade World that can regenerate all zones while preserving the ones with player built structures (always backup the world first).

That said, the only thing you may be missing is the new mini variations they'll add to biomes. Which should be happening at some distance away from center, if I recall right.

Something to do there at each stage of progression rather than just starting at the Black Forest and effectively ending at the Swamp.

After the swamp the wishbone could detect shipwrecks while you are sailing and you could use Silver, crystal, gunk and bloodbags to make a diving mask that unlocks the ability to swim underwater to get the loot from them. They could have underwater mobs guarding them, and food items you could gather from the sea floor.

Plains could have crudely built Fueling raiding ships occasionally attack you after you collect your first Fueling totem. They could drop loot or pieces of maps that eventually lead to a Fueling buried treasure horde.

The Mistlands could give you access to a boss fight if you equip the wisplight in an ocean thunderstorm.

They could give passengers the ability to play a little rowing minigame to help speed the ship up.

These are all just spitballed ideas off the top of my head. So surely the developers of the game could have come up with literally anything at least that or more creative if they gave a shit. But they have admitted that they don't.
>>
>>2903921
Good god I want that passenger rowing idea to be real so bad. I'm tired of being boat pilot and having to spend 70 years without a sail because the broskis and i don't have Moder power yet and we're going into a headwind. It makes me want to jump into the ocean irl
>>
>>2903921

Rowing seems like such an obvious thing to add to a fucking viking game, it was like the first thing my dudes and I tried to do once we got our first longship. But no, instead all of us just sit there doing nothing while the helmsman gets frustrated by the wind that always seems to be against us.
Ship customization should be a thing too, let me attach my shields to the sides and change the colors and patterns of the sail. Maybe even add fishing nets that we can pull with our ships to scoop up large quantities of lower tier fish that appears near the surface while the rod and higher tier bait would be needed for better fish.

Debating if I should do a 1.0 replay. Last played on mistlands update.
I really liked the building system but combat felt bad.

>>
>>2922396
combat has improved in that there's now adrenaline trinkets that give you temporary bonuses after filling up your adrenaline meter (which is filled by parrying, dodging, blocking, and striking enemies)
vertical hurtboxes for the player's weapons were also vastly improved so that fighting on slopes doesn't mean you'll miss your swing 90% of the time

i would highly recommend turning on the setting that allows ores through portals, and also increase the drop rates if you find yourself burning out by the plains. all you're missing out on are lengthy runbacks via boat while the wind fights you, and grinding materials
>>
Does anyone else not get a whole lot of trinket value? I can barely ever get mine to trigger, and that's only vs horde events, or against something with lots of hp like a boss
>>
>>2924106
I haven't properly played around with the Call to Arms update, but that was my assumption about them since I heard about the patch, that they would rarely be useful or if they ever did activate it would be because you are in such an overwhelming situation that they wouldn't even help you.

>>
>>2925051
Ones that would be pretty strong conceptually basically never trigger, like the +50 stamina one you get access to in the swamp, the bracelets of something or other. Very good on paper because an instant injection of stamina lets you keep dodging or attacking, except whatever you're fighting usually dies before you can fill the meter, or is so dangerous that you have to back off and let the meter start to empty before you get another window of opportunity to attack. The only way I could see getting actual use of out of these things is if you're under-geared weapon-wise, but at that point, why not just used an on-tier weapon and kill the enemy, instead of hitting them 20 times with a wooden weapon to get your trinket to trigger to get a bonus that helps you kill them? >>2925109
I haven't gotten to mistlands magic yet, maybe the frost staff will help trigger trinkets, cuz otherwise idk. I've been using fists because I thought the rapid attacks would fill the meter faster, but I've just been mowing through everything with my flesh rippers.

It's time to return to the Vikings' Purgatory. Got some questions.
Do we know if Deep North will be an alternative endgame zone, or will we need to clear and get upgrades from Ashlands to even stand a chance at Deep North?
Do we know whether they will balance/rework earlier biomes or all they are adding is Deep North content?
Are they implementing popular mods or high demanded changes, like separate inventory slots for your gear, or it's more of the same?
Best/most favourite build and weapon combo?

>Do we know if Deep North will be an alternative endgame zone, or will we need to clear and get upgrades from Ashlands to even stand a chance at Deep North?
It was said you can start going there early, but will need better gear to delve deeper.

>Do we know whether they will balance/rework earlier biomes or all they are adding is Deep North content?
There were mentions of some biome variations being added. Details unclear.

>Are they implementing popular mods or high demanded changes, like separate inventory slots for your gear, or it's more of the same?
It looks like it will just be extra slots. Allegedly bought from vendors.

>Best/most favourite build and weapon combo?
I like swords because of the anim cancel combos.
Knives can also do some good damage, but you gotta get close and personal.

The builds depend on what stage you're at.
You can go fast (and die fast on higher biomes) with fenris set.
You can shrug off pierce dmg with root harnesk and some barley wine to offset fire weakness.
Mage builds come so damn late you'll be dealing pathetic damage unless you grind or at least incrase skill gain rate through globalkeys.
Huntsman bow still best for silent sniping as I doubt anything in the update will change that.
>>
>>2928266
>Best/most favourite build and weapon combo?
Fenris set + crystal axe or krom. I really hope Deep North has a greatsword upgrade that doesn't look like shit. I don't like how comically wide the slayer is so I just kept using my krom in the Ashlands. The one handed Ashlands sword looked really nice, wish the greatsword was just an elongated version of that.
I did upgrade to flametal armor, so much shit spawns with stars that I can't rely on parrying, especially not with a Mistlands tier weapon, so being able to tank hits felt like a must.

I dug it all because it looked suspiciously big. I ended up getting 130 copper, just from that node. Literally more than enough for one guy's fully upgraded weapon, buckler, pickaxe, axe, and a bronze helmet. I assume they heard the butthurt playerbase complaining about the copper grind and changed it. No need for carts and stuff now, find a vein, camp next to it, dig it for the next one hour, or 30 minutes if friends help, then grab tin and leave the biome.

Generally, near ocean, on a beach is the best spot for your first base indeed. You can further optimise this, if you are into that, if you put your first base at a meadow/black forest border. Easy acces to meadow/dark forest stuff, and you can brin back your first copper hauls much easier.

>>

flint spear can unironically last you up until the swamp. it's cheap to upgrade, spears level up faster than any other weapon, and the rapid hits means you'll be leveling it faster still. it's actually beneficial to not upgrade to a new tier of spear until you get to the mountains, just because it still kills everything else quick enough, and you want to be using a weaker weapon to grind the skill up
>>
>>2932274
according to my sources, they despawn after 2 in-game days if they're not near a base structure like a workbench, campfire, or a number of other buildings that prevent enemy spawns within their radius. >>
>>2933992
yes. skill issue. the parry window is quite lenient in the game otherwise the tower shields are there if you can't be assed to parry, they tend to have a shitton of block defense so you just bother with dodging unblockables.
>>
>>2934046
is everything parryable on hard?
>>
>>2934159
i haven't played hard. some enemies don't guarantee hits/stagger even when you parry so you're better off dodging or play the spacing game, the bossfights are an example since they tend to hit hard and can go through your parries.

>>2932637
>bronze spear
An upgrade over the flint spear, effective against trolls that rustle my jimmies, great single target that kills onestarred greylings in 2 hits, and I'll use the axe against bears and Elder.

The durability of the deer antler pickaxe is turbo shit, and by making a bronze pickaxe means I'll have to postpone making an iron one till I'm done with swamps and ready to move to the mountains.
>bronze helmet
A placeholder because I've massacred 20+ bears and I still didn't get a trophy. And I need 2...

>>2934159
>is everything parryable on hard?
Depends. Your parry threshold scales with your current max HP and your shield/buckler stats. So most of the times it's not about the difficulty scaling, but rather if you ate properly and upgraded your buckler.
>>
>>2933992
dodging and spacing are important too
>>2934159
not every attack from every enemy, and it highly depends on the parry bonus and block armor of whatever youre parrying with, your parrying skill (stat), your defense, your hp, and how much damage the attack does
tl;dr most stuff is able to be parried, with the right prep
>>2934532
you can get similar mileage out of the flint spear without wasting copper...

the antler pick is better than the bronze one by virtue of it being able to be repaired on-site at a work bench, instead of needing to lug around forge materials, or portaling back every time it breaks. you don't even need it to mine scrap piles; yet more unnecessary bronze usage

you could use an upgraded deer or troll helmet/hood... you can also get a bear trophy by breaking haldor's bear rug if you've found him

What's this obsession with saving copper? It's not as rare as people make it seem. In all my playthroughs I rarely needed more than 2 full copper veins. I usually find one or 2 that are close to the sea, make my camp in between copper vein and the sea, and I'm done with it. When I have to move away, I put everything in the boat and sail. If this is about copper being more than a chore in co-op because the whole party's cost is multiplicative, that also means that I can pass down my old weapons to them. So when I'm bored of the bronze spear, I give it to my friend. Or not every party member needs a maxed out bronze pickaxe, or wants to mine ore at all.
>you can also get a bear trophy by breaking haldor's bear rug
Ok this is epic. The question is, do I finish my berzerk 3 piece set first, or make the trinket? With the spear I won't be getting the +slash dmg anyways... I could cope with the hp regen trinket but I dunno, these ones are new to me.
>>
>the corner of my deep north base had its terrain reset and trying to change it just resets it again shortly after

>>
>>2934593
>What's this obsession with saving copper? It's not as rare as people make it seem.
it's not rare, but it's a gigantic pain in the ass to mine, and a bunch of stuff requires it: forge upgrades, mead casks, the karve, bronze axe, any bronze weapons, upgrades, sconces, not to mention how certain late game items needs a boatload of bronze to craft and upgrade

i'd finish the armor set first since the stamina bonus is so helpful. trinkets kinda take a looot to actually activate, and there's better ones very soon after in terms of progression. the bear trinket just gives you stamina regen when it activates anyway, which is what you'd be getting from the bear set, without needing to jump through any hoops to get it.

>>
>>2934593
>What's this obsession with saving copper? It's not as rare as people make it seem
Nobody thinks it's rare, it's pretty abundant, but it's fucking annoying to gather large quantities of it. Mining copper takes forever even with a troll, and you mostly get stone out of it.
>>
>>2934655
why? so you can not-proc more than one trinket per fight?
>>
The Early Axes are awesome. I would recommend any returning player find a seed where they spawn at POIs near spawn and grab them. I don't know if they hold up in the Swamp but they rape everything the Black Forest has to throw at you. You don't need to craft a single bronze tool or peice of armor if you have them. Antler picks can get you copper, tin, chitin and iron from muddy scrap piles.
>>
>>2934666
Yes. I just want to wear all my bling at once.
>>
>>2934690
If you change trinkets and proc it you will keep both buffs. Good luck, it's hard enough to proc one.
>>
>>2934684
They look to be almost on par with Abyssal Razor, which are fine into plains.

First hit the axes are faster, so fore a one tap they look to be better, but they lose out even in a 2 hit combo.
You deal 1x, 1x, 1x and then 2x damage on the 4th combo hit right?

Without having tried the early axes yet it seems like it's a difference between
5% movement speed
Abyssal can take up a shield, but then loses the movement speed difference
You might get early axes even faster
no split damage so better aoe for the axes
axes better against bonemass and golem
abyssal better against trolls and loxes

Seems like a good early game alternative

since when are these fucking rocks invincible? i just wasted 20 iron thinking that bronze pickaxes weren't enough for these things
>>
>>2935485
You didn't waste your iron, you will need an iron pickaxe for the mountains anyways. If you made a bronze pickaxe you wasted bronze because they aren't any different than antler pickaxes besides the damage they do and the durability they have. Bronze picks are more of a pain in the ass to repair too because you need to travel to a forge to do it rather than just a crafting table. Bronze armor is also a total waste. Troll armor suits you fine in the swamp until you get iron armor.

IIRC those rocks have always been invincible. In pre EA versions of the game those rock formations were meant to be fast travel points that you had to use because you weren't able to build your own portals. Thankfully they scrapped that and those rock formations no longer contain portals, but they left them as indestructible for some reason.

I think that maybe I was testing him out years ago in a different world with cheats enabled to try stuff out, and then decided to make him a world of his own, but never ended up using it.

On a completely different note, this showed up in my sidebar, and it looked interesting.

can i get qrd on combat in this game?
sometimes i parry a skelly and its fine, and later i parry the same kind of skeleton and it stunlocks me? is it so random?
>>
>>2937870
Based on your max health(1), your stagger bar(2), block power(parry bonus if you timed it correctly(3)) and the damage(4).

(3)So maybe your timing was perfect the first time, so your block power got multiplied to handle it, and your timing was off the second time.
(1)Or you had less max health, maybe you went with more stamina food.
(2)Maybe you had just blocked a bunch of times in quick succession and your stagger bar filled up.
(4) it could've been a skelly with 1 star so it dealt more damage
>>
>>2937870
Your parry value (weapon block force x parry multiplier) and max health determine what you're able to parry. If you suddenly can't parry the same enemy with the same weapon/shield then your max health has degraded too much and you gotta eat again. Two health foods and one stamina food is what I'd recommend.
You should generally be fine if your current gear is from the same biome you're in. Two handed weapons, fist weapons, and small shields all have good parry values. Bronze buckler or a bronze atgeir is good enough to parry trolls, except for their overhead slam which does too much damage.

is staggering an enemy based on damage?
>>
>>2938161
Yeah physical and lightning damage specifically.
Some weapon attacks do more or less stagger.

Like the alternate attack for 2h axes deals more stagger, same with alterante attack for atgeir.
2h axe alt attack is like 400% stagger, but it's only 50% normal damage so more like double stagger compared to normal attacks.

Maces have good stagger, but Frostner deals a lot of Frost damage which doesn't stagger.
>>
>>2938190
the power kick attack for fist weapons is 600% stagger, and they have generally high base values with no movement penalty and huge crit multipliers. best weapon next to daggers if you can parry and dodge like a demon.
>>
>>2938235
Seems pretty good
for every character daggers has been my highest skilled weapon, except for one where I forced myself not to use them, but now that there's at least 3 fist weapon maybe they can be pretty food thanks to that stagger

I've never tried to use fist weapons though, for my next mp character I plan to go all out on spears

Fenris leg pieces are becoming standard for me.
Part of why I like daggers so much is being fast anyway.
I play a lot of hardcore, so I've never gone full fenris and dashed into mistlands, but it's been tempting.
First time they added the caves the fenris gear and fist weapons went to my buddy, and I could see someone just sticking with Fenris all the way to the end.

Not sure if they've added a 4th fist weapon, but feels like there's room for a blunt fist weapon in the game.

My very first character I wanted to go spear, but dropped it when I saw what it was like.
Ended up going atgeir and sword, and experimenting with dagger.
I've since read that people did use spears in that way, but from what I've seen the range shouldn't be so shit even with an overarm grip, like you let it slide forward in your hand.

So I wanna give them a proper chance.
They're fast, they have no combo, but the initial hit is quite good, if I just throw them a lot they may end up feeling quite good.
Like going into plains and having 3 silver spears on my toolbar, throwing the first one while moving forward and attacking with the next one while picking up the first one.
The attack speed might also be good for the lightning version in Ashlands.
I also saw some speedrunner use spears, which kind of suggests maybe there's something more to them.

I still think I'm gonna prefer all the other weapons, but in multiplayer I'm more comfortable using something stupid.

This tiermaker is from a while ago, and I feel like I couldn't even rank spears at all since I gave up on them too early.
Maybe too harsh on 2h axes, but they did disappoint me. At least they don't have -20% movement anymore.
>>
>>2938332
The only problem I have with Valheim is that the weapon skill investment matters a lot, but also the game pushes you to switch weapon classes at every biome. Spear for the first 2, then mace for the third one, and if by any chance you want to try another class, or in some cases a new weapon class, and I start from zero. And if by any chance you want to pick up the spear again, after the death penalties your spear skill will have dropped 30 levels.
I want to try the iron two handed axe in this playthrough since it's a new weapon for me as well, but why the fuck would I use an axe at the swamps when every mob and the boss is resistant to slash damage...
>>
>>2938332
they are a lot more usable since the buff to attack hitboxes but still poop tier range though that's most weapons in this game
>>
>>2938364
the damage types/resistances and the skill system do kinda clash like that

>I want to try the iron two handed axe in this playthrough since it's a new weapon for me as well,
Actually that one has been there for quite a while.
I think it was there even from the start, while they added the crystal battleaxe late in 2021, and then 2 more battleaxes last year.
>but why the fuck would I use an axe at the swamps when every mob and the boss is resistant to slash damage...
I think you worry about it much.
The skellies are so weak they die fast to even daggers which are half pierce, half slashing.
Slashing is your best bet against abomination,
Sure they're worse against bonemass than iron mace and sledgehammer, but so is everything, and even then they're like in the 2nd tier above the piercing weapons.

Me in the back with battleaxe, root harnesk and dvergr circlet.
I went axes last mp game, but after plains I felt they were too awkward and I didn't want to be a weak link in mistlands and ashlands, so I grinded clubs against Elder(had a bunch of standard clubs and probably padded armor so could face tank) and made a Frostner.
I did solo iron trips and looking for roots by myself with the battleaxe and it was good.

imo they should've taken the speed penalty down to -10%.

Since they've added more battleaxes after the crystal one, maybe it's more viable going full on axe in Mistlands now.
Ashlands got the dual wield axes too which seem great

I just want to explore unperturbed for crying out loud. fuck this game. I would complain about the grind, but that's just par for the course. at least they made it straightforward this time, and it's in fact less of a grind when you get right down to it. gammeltrolls --> petrified tissue --> bloodgold --> casts --> cooled via liquid ice put into the foundry is at least better than having to wait for sap extractors to pull some eitr out of roots and then wait for it to refine. that's TWO levels of waiting, fuck that.

Parry them with the crossbow. Then Oneshot. Also use a not shit-cross Norse XBow like a real viking.

xbow doesn't have enough block power to parry

Taming is fun, what's not fun is transporting tamed animals.

>I foresee many beelining for important loot and then deliberately killing themselves to grief
You could grief loot regardless of settings in an mp server

>what's not fun is transporting tamed animals.
First time I transported a boar it exploded due to the collision of the boat while touching the sides of it
despite the jank I still find it fun, maybe because of it
>>
>>2940917
exactly, so why bother with the setting that's going to make the loot even more scarce?
>>
>>2940952
>exactly
>negates your entire point
>>
>>2940958
it enforces my point - you literally aren't capable of thinking
if people are going to grief anyway, making loot scarce, what is the point of turning on the setting that makes loot even more scarce for people who are just playing the game normally? there is no reason, unless your end goal is to delete all the loot from the world as fast as possible
>>
>>2940963
Retard, if you have a dedicated griefer who takes the iron and then dies on purpose to delete the iron with the hardcore setting, or a dedicated griefer who takes the iron and throws it out in the ocean on purpose to delete the iron without the hardcore setting, you're left with 0 iron regardless.
The problem at that point is no longer the setting, it is the griefer, and you are arguing against the setting which is pointless because it doesn't change the hypothetical outcome of the griefer, you are so fucking stupid you can't even remember your own argument, your brain so badly beaten into mush that your distaste for the setting forced a post hoc rationalization instead of just voicing your preference.
>>
>>2940975
the setting deleting loot makes it the same as if there is a griefer chucking loot in the ocean
it is a zero sum game, how are you not getting this?
>>
had to make a small platform for adze because legse were sticking through the ceiling lol
>>
you guys are fags and argue about fag things
just make a server and if somebody is a cock just for the sake of griefing, ban them

Greyniggers are quite possibly the most obnoxious enemies I've ever dealt with in a game. I fucking hate those cunts like you wouldn't believe.

>>2941013
>>2941026
I think the game would be improved immensely if they had a special animations for grabbing your carrots to eat them

I swear they broke spawn prevention because my island house with zero open areas for hundreds of hours suddenly has them crawling out of floorboards

they remind me of swarmers in DRG, which ironically don't swarm you, they just trickle in endlessly forcing you to stop paying attention to whatever you were doing to deal with the ankle biter
>>2941028
I wholeheartedly agree
>>2941029
I read on the wiki that when you reload an area, whatever spawn prevention measures you have placed (crafting tables, campfires, etc.) will not prevent spawns for a few moments
it could also be that you simply have some gaps in your spawn prevention net and they're wandering inside your house

also check this out guys, i got this all from a single crypt:

idk what they were thinking making a gacha system that can destroy your equipment for upgrades

not only that but the idols are kinda rare so if you want to roll something up to like 10 against all odds it would take days of chest scrambling which is a limited resource

Is ranged worth levelling when playing single player?
Just unlocked my first reach weapon, the spear, and I feel like this will mostly do what I would want to do with a bow which is to kite dangerous enemies in circle. Without the downside of running out of ammo/using additional inventory space.
>>
>>2941272
Without spoiling too much: You will want a bow eventually, but don't worry about leveling.

if and when you do get around to leveling your bow
A. make a finewood bow, do not make a crude bow. the crude bow has a significantly slower draw speed than any other bow
B. use wooden arrows. the damage difference between them and other arrows you have available is negligible. you'll find tons of flint arrows in burial chambers and meadows chests anyhow, so you won't need to craft more for a bit
>>
>>2941357
Not sure if it's really spoilers but the enemies in the last 2 biomes do copious amount of collateral damage and terrain destruction for infinite raw materials. You never need to farm for mega contruction projects if you survive till then.
>>
>>2941379
Need crude bow to get finewood. At least intended way.
>>
>>2941394
you can find finewood by destroying old boats that sometimes spawn on shores in dark forest (maybe in meadows too?)
>>
>>2941394

what's the difference if they take the item and move it off the server through any of the various methods, like deleting the character or putting it in another server's storage?
>>
carrot anon, you can speed up grow time by sleeping
do whatever shit you want until noon and go to sleep, repeat and your plants grow twice as fast
